IC: Grakata - refectory w/ friends and not nice Rahkshi >:c

A burst of unfamiliar sounds grabs hold of Grakata's attention, snapping his focus to the source. Eyes widening at the oncoming projectiles, the Vorahk turns to Lost and A!, leaping over the table at them to tackle them to safety. "GET DOWN!!!" Who in their right mind is openly shooting outside of the gym?! I know Rahkshi are encouraged to become better but i'm not sure if this qualifies!

IC: Crate - Getting assaulted by large dogs

Door's skillset is proving to be extremely useful in the current scenario.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about mine. I'm cornered, and way too far into the fight for the element of surprise.

I was counting on this assignment being more...personality focused than whatever Icarax thought this is. I stay behind the disintegration rahkshi for now, though my baton's in hand if need be.

IC: A! - Shock Has Made The Worst Life Decision

A! barely avoided being hit by one of the funny spheres from the tackle, and from the look on the Rahkshi who'd shot the spheres' face, they weren't meant as a friendly greeting. He was shocked, only thinking of the fact that someone had straight up attacked his friends while they were eating, and shouted at them, throat tingling with the accidentally triggered might of a Power Scream,

IC: Shock

Okay, I'm going to be real. When I decided to attack the group, the last thing I expected was to get my ear drums blown out. Unfortunately for me, that's exactly what happened.

When the big yell happened, I got pushed back right into my seat, before falling on my back. I don't really know if that was from the sheer force of the yell or my shock that such a noise could come from a Rahkshi like that. In any case, the only thing I could hear was this constant ringing in my ears. I bring my hand up to my hearing apparatus, and feel blood. I groan as I slowly sit up. "WHAT THE #### WAS THAT!?" I yell, although I could have just as easily yelled "WHERE'S THE ZEALOUS BAT!?" Let's just hope it was the former.

IC: Carraig

A tap on my shoulder. I turn to this new Rahkshi. "Yeah, you could say that. I pretty much jus-" I am cut off by a big yell. Uh... I don't think that's normal... Just to make sure I wasn't dreaming, I turn to Thunder, though I didn't know her name. "You heard that, right?"

IC: Dahl

I was about to share my viewpoint when the sound of a massive shout reaches me. "Uh... The school doesn't scream, right?"

IC: Thunder - Eventful few minutes

Thunder sighed, holding her head in her hand. "Have a feeling it was because of the idiot in the refectory." She shook her head, not wanting to get involved. She did not want to get involved. She did not-

Releasing a loud growl, Thunder clawed into her faceplate and went to her room, grabbing her staff and rushing back to the new Rahkshi."Name is Thunder. Rooms are down there. If empty, it's yours." She hated having to rush the introduction, but she couldn't shake the feeling that a fight was going to break out down there. Her power may prove useful in preventing or at least stopping one.

IC: Carraig

I stare after the Rahkshi that just ran towards the sound. If there's a fight that's about to break out, I want a part in it. A good chance to test my metal. But... I think about how I had already made the decision to choose out a dorm. If I went back on that and put it off for later, than that would just prove that I would change everything on a whim. I could not afford to budge my position on anything. Okay, I'll just choose a dorm real quick then check out the fight. Best way to handle this. Without another thought, I switch into flight mode, and go to the dorms. It doesn't take very long to get there, seeing as I was already pretty close.

As I exit flight mode, I open the closest door to me. A black Rahkshi with some kind of bird Rahi turn to me. "What do you think you're doing?" He says with this annoyed voice. "Sorry!" I say, before slamming the door shut. Occupied. I move over several doors and open another one. Thankfully, this one was empty. I close the door, and reach into my bag, grabbing gray warpaint. I dip my fingers into it, then, on the door, I paint a jagged line to represent mountains. Now... To battle. I place the jar of gray warpaint back in my bag, before pulling out a different color(red). I dip two fingers into the jar, then paint two vertical lines right by my left eye. Satisfied, I put the jar back up, before switching to flight mode, and flying to the source of the big yell.

IC: Lost

Lost didn't even know what to do. One moment, they were happily sitting there...the next, their ears were ringing and felt oddly wet. Their head hurt a lot.

The poor Rahkshi just mumbled incoherently. At least pain and uncomfortably loud noises weren't a new concept to them.

IC: Grakata - refectory w/ friends whose eardrums were ganked

Grakata's eyes crossed slightly, covering his ears in pain. This is BAD. This is very BAD. ######... This is... My ears... ######... This situation is getting out of control... Have to... Gah, can't think straight... Staggering to his knees, he looks over at Lost and A!. Lost is down... A! is okay... The shooter...! Have to find the shooter...! Pausing for a few moments, the Vorahk cautiously looks over and past the table. Finding the attacker flat on their back, he drops back down and scrambles over to A!. He shakes their shoulder in an attempt to get their attention. "CHALK BOARD. NEED YOUR CHALK BOARD."

IC: Paradox - Library

The spontaneity of noise snaps Paradox's focus from his book, a hiss of alarm managing to escape him. Quickly shutting off the recording, he teleports out from behind his wall of books towards the middle of the library, then once again to the entrance of the library itself. Glaring out past the door with analytical hesitation, he scans his environment then closes his eyes to listen for a possible direction of where the sound came from. Something or someone had to have made that sound... Is this a test? An assignment? Did a Makuta cause this...? The Panrahk growls a low guttural note of frustration. Admittedly... This would be a perfect opportunity to try and thin the numbers... No... No, things would get out of hand quickly... Undoubtedly I am not the only one who must have heard that. There is no possible way such a sound was directed solely to me... No... Tempting as this is, others will have heard... Others who are far more powerful... Closing the library door, he teleports back behind his wall of books, picking up the one he was interrupted from and resumes the paragraph he was in progress of reading. Their numbers alone puts me at a disadvantage... I will return to reading... For now.

IC: Draco

As I make my way to the library, a distant sound catches my attention. I frown as I listen for it. However, no other noise reaches my ear. Did I imagine it? Maybe. I stop for a moment, and debate with myself whether I should go investigate the sound, or just forget about it and move on. At last, though, I decide to go and investigate. After all, patrolling was a boring affair, and if there was any chance that some sort of commotion was going down, then I would gladly go and stop it just to have a change of pace from these empty halls. So, I adjust my heading and start moving to where I thought the sound had emanated from.

IC: Thunder - With idiots

Thunder practically barged into the hall, and saw a few Rahkshi writhing on the ground in pain from the scream, one of whom was the attacker. She sighed and growled, going over to the ones who were attacked.

"Are you okay?" She asked, crouching down with a glare and avoiding the mess of sludge that was splattered around in the chaos.

IC: A! - Big Yell

A!, both hands slapped over his faceplates and eyes wide with shock, was startled by Grakata's insistence on getting his chalkboard. He removed one hand to point at the chalkboard resting on the table, and in doing so realised Lost was mumbling on the ground. He immediately rushed to their side, trying to be comforting without making any noise whatsoever. This mainly consisted of patting the smaller Rahkshi awkwardly.

When Thunder approached, asking if they were all right, A! nodded in a distracted fashion, still with his hand over his faceplates, as if he was trying to hold in all his yells.

IC: Grakata - refectory w/ friends and first responder Thunder on the case!

Wincing at the still-ringing in his ears, Grakata squints at the direction of a new Rahkshi that's approached, then follows A!'s finger to where they've pointed. Quickly grabbing the chalkboard and the chalk that was with it, he starts writing before turning the Chalkboard to face A! and the new Rahkshi.

Ear drums shot, Lost is probably same. Yell knocked attacker down. Don't worry but stay focused. Take Lost to Palma. I will meet you there.

Thunder shook her head in awe and disbelief and took the chalkboard from the deafened Rahkshi and began to write.

IC: Shock

I slowly pick myself up off the ground, and pick up my sword and Zamor launcher. Oh, what devastating potential! If I had a friend like that... Well first, I would need something to cover my ears, but then... Harassment of this forsaken place would be soooooo much easier. I grin to myself as I think of all the possibilities of a big yell. Well, can't really approach him about him, seeing as I just... Well, shot at him. Ah well. Speaking of them... I turn to see the group whom I just shot at... Wait. There was only three of them originally. But now four!? Even a highly skilled, master swordsman like myself would have difficulty against that. Well... Let's wait and see if they attack me as a group or not.

IC: Thunder - Dealing with the aftermath

Thunder nodded and picked up Lost, glaring at Shock and growling and aiming her staff as a warning. Once the trio were away from him, Thunder's expression softened and she beckoned A! to follow.

Along the way, A! was still shocked at themselves, and had issues communicating without their chalkboard, so a conversation was out of the question. And Lost was deaf, for now, so Thunder wouldn't have to talk to them either. Perfect. Some peace and quiet. Once this was over, she could hopefully get back to her plans of testing her flight abilities.

Lost didn't even try to resist. They were still too disoriented to understand what was even going on - let alone make sense of what just happened. They mumbled quietly, still unable to hear anything.

IC: Grakata - Probably going to do something stupid

Watching the new Rahkshi escort his friends to Palma, Grakata quickly ducks down once again behind the table and does his best to short-hand an explanation of the events to anyone else that might arrive. Setting the chalkboard on the table with the writing upwards, the Vorahk hefts himself up and vaults himself over the table. I've got to disarm that Rahkshi, or at least settle for breaking whatever he's using to shoot! Got to make this count, have to connect the hit! Skating with momentum, he fixes his attention to the launcher in the blue-white Rahkshi's hand. Pupils dilate and shrink down smaller than normal size, taking the details of the offending tool, as the black Rahkshi's perception of time slow down by a fraction. A wave of... almost a sensation similar to adrenalin washes over him, a strange surge of power. Fixating his gaze dead center down the barrel of the launcher, Grakata revs one end of his staff and thrusts it down at the weapon in an attempt to break it.

IC: Shock

Well then. To be honest, I didn't really expect him to come right up to me. And the audacity to try and break my toy! "BOI, DON'T DO IT!" I say as I move my arm up to avoid my blaster. Once the end of the staff moves past my arm, I then move my arm back down with the intent to squeeze the staff between my arm and my body, all while sending electricity coursing through me.

, I missed it! At least he gave me another option! "I was going for that launcher, but your arm will have to do! As long as you're disarmed one way or another!" Using one hand as a fulcrum, Grakata brings the thrusted end of the staff up in an attempt to slash under the arm.

Grakata would find that he did not have enough force with one arm to cut my arm off while I was still pressing it to my body. "NICE TRY MATE." I yell, with a slight smile. I then let electricity flow through my body, and hopefully through the staff and Grakata, while at the same time using my other arm, sword in hand, to slash at Grakata's side.

IC: Grakata - has done something stupid and is paying for it.

In the Vorahk's defense, admittedly, he did not know that electricity hurts, since he only knew pain from not landing correctly or running into things. That said, Grakata lets out a rather sharp skree of surprise and pain from the voltage being sent through to him. Bringing up his arm in an attempt to block the sword, he feels the blade skid off the armor plating on his forearm yet skree's again as he feels the blade cut at his side. Good block. Could've been worse. Focus. Get staff back. Possibly take sword. Not even attempting to push the blade out of his side, the black Rahkshi opts to instead yank his opponent closer to him by grabbing the wrist of the sword hand, and pulling with all his strength on his staff. Closer. Closer. Just a little more. NOW!!! In a swift motion, skreeing and pushing past the pain, he kicks his blue-white attacker square in the chest, confident that the kick at least put a greater distance between the two of them, maybe even a sizable dent.

IC: Whisper - Mainland.

In this universe, so filled with the callous and the uncaring and the paranoid, not to mention the psionics and mind readers, it was difficult to make people buy an outright lie. The best deceptions were weapons, pointed and poignant, but concealed within sheathes of truth. In the same vein, I'd found that the best way to fake an emotion was not to fake it at all.

To emulate an emotion, I had only to immerse myself in the memory of it. If I wanted rage, I would remember pain. If I wanted joy, I would remember escape. If, like now, I wanted to feign vulnerability and sorrow, I had to remember my darkest moments of my upbringing, so filled with isolation and rejection...

______________________________________________________________

Where did you get that?
The voice ripped through Whisper’s mind like a blade through flesh, coaxing a strained cry from her throat.

She turned away from the wall she’d been leaning up against, scrambling further into the corner of the room as a shadow reared up behind her, resolving itself into the shape of a crimson being whose face bore the Mask of Scavenging, and whose baleful red eyes regarded her with unveiled disappointment.

“Icarax.” She breathed, dropping to one knee. “I-”

No. A bone-rattling blow, accompanied by a sound like a thunderclap, battered her to the floor. The piece of fruit she’d been clutching in her hands was flung from her grasp, tumbling unevenly across the moss-strewn stones of the cold floor. You will address me as Makuta, or Master. You have not earned the right to refer to me as Father, nor to use my name in my presence. Am I understood?

“Yes.” Whisper croaked, rising to her hands and knees, “I mean, yes Makuta,” she amended quickly.

Now answer me. Where did you get that? One of Icarax’s talon-tipped fingers pointed towards the piece of fruit.

“I took it from my brother.”

No. A second crackle of sonic energy swatted her to the ground. The truth.

“But I did take it from him!” Once again, Whisper tried to rise.

No. A third wave of percussive energy crashed over her, smacking her faceplate directly into the stonework. When next she tried to rise, her vision was blurred with tears, and her mouth was filled with the taste of her own blood. You didn’t take it. You stole it. Like a coward. Like a thief. You didn’t earn it.

“He’s bigger than me,” Whisper whimpered, trying to remain defiant despite her circumstances, “and stronger, but not smarter. I used what I had. I earned my meal, my way.” She lunged for the fruit, only for it to be torn from her reach, whisked away by a casual wave of Icarax’s hand.

There is no your way. Icarax leaned down, offering the fruit to her. There is only my way. Hesitantly, Whisper reached out to take the food. As he fingers brushed against it, however, the fruit seemed to crumple in on itself, condensing down into a puddle of mush on Icarax’s hand as it was crushed by a powerful pulse of gravity.

Whisper tore her hand back with a cry, her fingertips cracked and bleeding.

Nothing is given. You take. You earn. Or you die.

A brief glow of plasma filled Icarax’s palm, and for a terrified instant, Whisper thought he intended to use it against her. Fortunately, once the mushy remnants of the fruit had been reduced to faintly aromatic steam, the plasma energy dissipated, and Icarax withdrew his hand, stepping backwards into shadow and vanishing, leaving Whisper to her tears.

______________________________________________________________

How far I've come since then...

Blinking away a tear, I straightened from where I'd been sitting, returning my blade to its place on my back, and pausing to admire the sliver of wood I'd been sharpening. From the rise upon which I stood, I could glimpse the imposing, veiled shape of Corpus Rahkshi silhouetted against the sea. My journey here had been long, filled with learning and yearning, but I'd finally arrived.

"It's time to begin." I whispered to myself, beginning to make my way down the slope, towards the ruins of Phantom-on-the-Water, and the jagged, gnarled form of the Chirox Causeway. First Icarax, then the rest of the Brotherhood.

Y'know, if there's one thing Rahkshi feet are good for, it's kicking the ever living daylight out of you. And judging by how he was pulling me closer, he was gonna go for one of those knock-your-socks-off kinda kicks. Bit too close to avoid, but... I release the staff between my arm and body, and angle myself so that my sword armis in a straight line with my shoulders. Grakata's foot scrapes my chest, certainly causing discomfort but not really pushing me anywhere. With that out of the way, I quickly holster my Zamor Launcher, before placing my other hand at the handle of my sword, and pulling with all my might to free both my sword and hand from Grakata. All the while, I am pumping as much electricity as I can through my sword and into Grakata.

IC: Paradox - Wandering

Given that Paradox was interrupted by some kind of yelling or shout, he was only half-way through a stack of books. Thankfully, the remainder of the books in said stack take only an hour and a half to finish. Allowing himself to stretch, he stands up from his flight position and gently puts the book back atop the stack. "These books hold quite a bit of information... I could learn quite a bit from all of this..." Picking up his club, he vanishes from his corner and reappears at the entrance to the library. "If I stay in here for much longer however, that... itch... might develop." Opening the door and poking his head out, he slowly scans his surroundings then closes his eyes to listen. "Hmm... I don't hear fighting... Perhaps the prefects have already dealt with the offending parties..." Clear evidence to their capabilities... Exxan wasn't kidding when he said these 'prefects' were strong. Blinking away without a sound, he blinks back into existence down a stretch of hallway, only to blink away once again, continuing the process of disappearing and reappearing until at last he reaches the entrance to the school.

IC: Whisper - Chirox Causeway.

As the school grew closer, so too did my trepidation increase. I wasn't normally one for self-doubt - I had to endure plenty of that without needing to offer any input of my own - but the enormity of the task before me was almost as daunting as the sight of the school itself.

Alright... I've got to make this look convincing... I switched to flight mode, accelerating swiftly as I weaved through the trees towards the beach, giving the ash-strewn ruins of the Matoran village a wide berth. As the beach came into view, I veered abruptly upwards, exiting flight mode as I crashed bodily through a tangle of branches, before gravity carried me back down towards the ground, only the last-second activation of my powers sparing me from crippling injury as I slammed into the sand.

I lay there for several long moments, before carefully shifting my bruised body into a sitting position, seawater lapping at my legs. I pulled out the stick I'd been sharpening earlier, slid the point into a gap in the armour of my left upper leg, and shoved down on it, clenching my jaws to stop myself from crying out. Satisfied by the blood welling up from the wound, I tore the stick free, breaking it into splinters and hastily scattering its remains in the sand, before forcing myself to stand.

Pressing my hand to the wound, I began the slow, excruciating process of limping along the beach, a jittery trickle of ichor trailing behind me. I'd been careful in choosing the time and place to put this plan into action. By the time I reached the school, the incoming waves would've washed away both the blood, and my own footprints, leaving no trail by which anyone could verify or refute the story I would tell upon my arrival.

In time, I reached the Causeway, and began to languidly clamber through it, leaving bloody handprints in my wake.

IC: Paradox - discovering and interacting with Whisper

Paradox opens the front door of the school and steps through, not even bothering to close it behind him. Teleporting a good distance away from the school, he stops and scans his surroundings. "Corpus's intent is for Rahkshi to become stronger... Knowledge from books can only go so far... That means I need to fight..." A strangled sound escapes his throat, almost like a combination of a hiss and a malevolent chuckle. "Good... Slowly, through some strange semblance of contested willpower, he remains hidden and quiet. After a few moments of steady breathing, confident that any instincts of defiance to his orders has been crushed, at least in the temporary, he looks about for the wounded Rahkshi. Spotting them once again, he disappears from his hiding space and reappears up the road from them. "Hello? Are you alright? I saw you coming up from the causeway, are you hurt?"

IC: Whisper - Chirox Causeway.

Lowering myself down from another ledge, I allowed a yelp of surprise to escape my mandibles at the unexpected sound of my would-be rescuer's voice. I turned towards them, bracing myself up against a pillar to stop my wobbling, weakened leg from giving out beneath me. "Yes, I was..." I cast a furtive glance back the way I'd come, as if searching for some unseen pursuer, "...can you help me, please?"

I did my utmost to appear wide-eyed and frightened, an act that my naturally-soft voice lent itself to quite effectively.

IC: Paradox - Helping [Careless] Whisper

I    c a n    s m e L L    t h e    f e a r . . .    s o    h u n g r y . . . Quiet, you ravenous cretin. I am the one at least sticking to our orders. W e ' L L    n e v e r    g e t    a n o t h e r    o p p o r t u n I t y    L I k e    t h I s    a g a I n . Then I will make another opportunity. In the meantime be quiet, and go sulk in your brackish little pit. "Of course, let me help you up." The brown Rahkshi sets his club aside and extends a hand out towards the smaller Rahkshi, his other hand absentmindedly scratching at a patch of blue on his neck, almost... impatiently...?

"Thank you," I shuffled forwards, accepting the offered hand, "I thought I was never going to make it."

IC: Paradox - outside the infirmary w/ Whisper

Helping the smaller Rahkshi to their feet, the Panrahk picks his club back up. "I will help you to Corpus. Hang on." And with that, they teleport back to the entrance of Corpus, and continue on their way past the entrance and towards the infirmary. Appearing just outside the infirmary door, Paradox helps the smaller Rahkshi brace against the wall. "If you don't mind my asking, what happened to you? You look like you survived an attack from a Muaka or a Kane-Ra bull."

IC: Whisper - Infirmary.

"Worse." I whimpered, "I was on my way to the school...coming through the forest... the trees attacked me. Vines. Branches. I tried to fly away, and something..." I gestured weakly to the ragged wound to my thigh, "...there was someone else there, too. Taller than a Matoran, wearing-" I paused, a very real bout of dizziness overcoming me for a moment. Perhaps I'd cut myself a little too deep, "-wearing a mask. I think... I think it was a Toa."

IC: Draco

As I was making my way towards the potential disturbance, I notice a group of three Rahkshi, one of which was being carried, slowly making their way to what could only be the Infirmary, judging from the expression of pain that was on the small Rahk's face. I frown and hurry over to them. "What happened?" I ask the Rahkshi with a tail who was carrying the smaller Rahk.

"I think I... I don't know," I stammered, shoulders slumping, "I thought this place was supposed to be safe for rahkshi."

IC: Grakata - needing a new plan

This is bad. Really bad. Gotta get some distance away from this Rahkshi. Acting on adrenalin, Grakata focuses his power and takes in the details of his blue-white assailant. The kick connected but not to the result I was looking for. Minimal damage to chest. Could let go of his wrist, counterattack by clockwise spin and hit with staff... No, movement would take too long, attacker would either attack with sword again, or use launcher when my back was exposed. Need to break connection from him, cut off current flowing through me. Jab to the throat? Cut off airway? Possible, but have to act fast. Follow up after throat punch? Uppercut? No, can't move fast enough. Settle for throat punch, disengage, break for infirmary. Immediately letting go of his attacker's sword hand, and strikes hard and fast with a knuckle jab to the throat, feeling that satisfying impact as the jab hits its mark. Using that same hand to shove the blade out of his side, the Vorahk skates forward just enough to use his staff in making a sharp U-turn around the Rahkshi and skates to the chalkboard, grabbing it and continuing his escape out of the refectory and towards the infirmary with haste.

IC: Paradox - Infirmary exterior w/ Whisper

"Rather counterintuitive to make this place safe for Rahkshi, when Rahkshi are openly encouraged to attack each other during assignments. Even then, as far as I am to believe, there are even those unsavory enough to lash out, either because they can, or because others look weak enough. But I think there are more important matters at hand; such as getting you inside. Come, it's just through this door."

IC: Whisper - Infirmary.

I'd barely been here five minutes, and already I was witnessing ample criticism for the school. If the rest of the rahks in the school shared this one's disdain, my task was going to be far easier than I'd anticipated.

"Thank you," I mumbled, bracing myself against the wall as I made my way into the infirmary.
