GSR Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 We may not be getting any serialized comics for G2 so far, but we do get a graphic novel: Gathering of the Toa! It's available at that Amazon link in both Kindle and physical format. The comic releases on December 29th, 2015. Do be considerate with plot details! Stuff we already know the gist of from animations/etc. is fine to talk about openly, but at least for the first few days (per policy), please use spoiler tags to discuss plot events not previously seen. Happy reading! Quote Hey: I'm not very active around BZP right now. However, you can always contact me through PM (I have email notifications set up) and I will reply as soon as I can. Iben Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 So apparently this arrived on 4chan. So it turns out that TTV did hear it correctly when they spoke about two halves of the Mask of Time. -Iben 4 Quote "Unity, Duty, Destiny."
admiraltyphoon Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 The same user posted more pictures:http://imgur.com/a/j75Do Nice to see some lore regarding the mask of time, especially the confirmation that it's just half of it, and Pohatu interacting with creatures. The group shot reminds me of transformers: Animated somehow. J46 Nui Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) I enjoyed the guide portion of it. I think Pohatu's story was the best out of the bunch, just because we get to see some new Okoto wildlife. Besides that, a lot of the story is a retread of what has already been told, and there was quite a few errors in the book (dialogue balloons going to the wrong character, the guide saying that the defenders have the top half of the mask of time when the story clearly shows that the have the classic Vahi bottom half mask, ect.). Hopefully the next one will have more original content. Edited December 29, 2015 by J46 Nui Quote PSN ID: darthlegoGamertag: SPARTAN J46Steam name: jumpy46
Alyska Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) So Pohatu's the kind of guy who says about five words a day to other people, but he'll chatter away for hours when left alone with a puppy. ...that is just the most precious thing ever. I am so getting this book. Edited December 29, 2015 by Alyska 1 Quote 3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231
Aanchir Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I went out and got this book this evening! It's a fairly quick read, but still a lot of fun. It's way better than the preview pages led me to expect. The artwork is pretty nice throughout most of the pages (it's just a few of those early ones that are kinda rough), and the colors are bright. The masks sometimes look off-model, but not to the point that you can't recognize the characters. There are definitely still a number of errors of the sort we've come to expect from Bionicle comics by now — masks colored incorrectly, speech bubbles pointing to the wrong characters, etc. But I'd say the quality of the stories makes up for it. Great characterization, and lots of heartwarming and humorous moments. Very much looking forward to Battle of the Mask Makers! Other than the bits about the Mask of Time which I believe have already been shared, there's not a whole lot of new information in "The Okoto Protectors' Guide". The only info from that section which we haven't seen previously is the stuff about the Temple of Time and the Mask of Time. There is what appears to be concept art for the Temple of Time, which looks different than it did in the webisodes. Instead of having a giant pendulum, it's an hourglass-shaped tower. Interesting. Toa Smoke Monster Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I enjoyed the novel. Maybe even more so than Island of Lost Masks. No, it doesn't have any of the Skull Villains in it, and the fight with the Lord of Skull Spiders at the end of the story was probably weakest telling of this battle out of the three of them so far. But what it does get right, which is the telling of some of the stories the Toa and Protecters go through to get their Masks of Power, works very well. Kopaka probably has the best story out of the Toa IMO. In Island of Lost Masks, there is an abandoned city in the Region of Ice that Kopaka and Izotor only talk about as they travel. But Gathering of the Toa expands on this more byhaving them go into the city. There is some really cool artwork shown in this tell, and I'm glad that this city was explored more here. Pohatu also had a really cool story, as he helped two young wolf-like creatures find their mom. While the novel doesn't tell us what they are exactly, it still cool for Pohatu to have this particular story, as it shows us a side of him that we haven't seen from the Webisodes or Island of Lost Masks. The other Toa all get their moments in their stories too. And the whole novel is filled with some cool artwork. I don't know if its the best artwork ever seen in a Bionicle graphic novel, but I do like what this particular novel gives us. The only negative thing I really have to say about the ending battle between the Toa and Lord of Skull Spiders. Like I said above, this is the third telling of this fight, and it definitely feels like the weakest out of them. Even Island of Lost Masks had a better version of his battle IMO. Overall, I feel like Gathering of the Toa gives us more tells of the Toa freed from the restraints of the Webisodes, similar to the first half Island of Lost Masks. These stories help expand on the Toa and Protector's personalities a bit, which is never a bad thing. I definitely recommend the novel for those who want to see more some of the Toa's adventures through Okoto to get their Golden Masks of Power. Nidhiki of the Shadows Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Should be coming in today! Art looks awesome and I love what I've seen in terms of worldbuilding. Oh and the Mask of Time stuff is super intriguing! -NotS Quote

Nidhiki of the Shadows Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I got this and Revenge of the Skull Spiders in. The hardcover edition is great. The art is really strange at first but gets significantly better throughout. Feels real old-school. Full thoughts later. -NotS 2 Quote
Alyska Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 ...Why is this whole book not about Pohatu rescuing puppies? This is the sort of content the Bionicle canon needs more of. 3 Quote 3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231
