IC: Votadox (Psyker) - Combat Arena

I observe some passing time. Then I observe what it's holding. Yes. It appears my opponent has turned into sand. Well, I've seen stranger things; this one seems ineffective and silly into the same bargain. I'm not entirely sure what it's planning on doing - perhaps boring me to death? Sand has never held much of an interest to me, it's true. Well, I think it'll be amusing to find out. And more amusing still to find out that there is, in fact, no plan.

"Ready." I reply, after this brief interlude. I stay where I'm standing. I tilt my head to the side as I contemplate the pile of sand with very mild interest.

IC: Votadox (Psyker) - Combat Arena

My muscles were poised: I sidestep neatly. Then I frown disapprovingly. "Disgusting." I say simply and concisely. This creature is clearly ill. But with what? I let out an inaudible sigh. Then I inspect my weapon of choice, once again stationary. Being stationary is much easier, in my experience. I give my gun a good look over. I scan its surface. After all, this is a combat test. Combat will likely be involved. But I wouldn't call enthusiastic salivation 'combat'.

I pretend to ignore my opponent. "Exactly what kind of rahi were you before you joined the Hunters?"

IC: Votadox (Psyker) - Combat Arena

I stare at the pile of sand for a few moments.

"What's a 'mother'?"

Then I think for an instant about the fact that a pile of sand is trying to convince me I'm related to rocks. Let me say that again. A pile of sand is attempting to explain my relation to stones. I reflect inwardly on the situation. I reflect on its surreality. My genuine confusion turns to amusement. My amusement turns to glee. I am, indeed, fighting an enemy which spontaneously turns into sand. I am fighting a being which turns into sand. Repetition: my enemy converts into sand at any given moment. That's its special power. It turns into sand.

I just hope there isn't a gust of wind. Or at least not one in my direction. That could involve some actual risk: my eyes might get stung by the sand, for example. If the wind was fast enough, that is. That could involve some actual, albeit mild, danger. If I acted intentionally recklessly, perhaps. If I rubbed my face in the sand, I suppose. Or if I set up a fan on the other side of the sand. Or if I imported some more sand, just to up the ante. That could well lead to my eyes being slightly, briefly stung.

As it is, though, I'm just staring at a pile of sand.

IC (Shaodwboxer): Skondh could call it dirty fighting. Krahua called it effective fighting. Thanks to his "dishonour", his opponent had taken a sucker-punch to the face, and would spend the rest of their bout fighting with one hand left raw and painful by his second shadow bolt. The downside was that Skondh was now enraged. Ah well.

Krahua didn't stick around to get flattened. He took off, sprinting the last five bio or so to the forest of poles beneath the construction site. In there, he hoped he could stay ahead of the Vemosai. He just had to get there first.

IC (Huntsman): Acanon followed Kohu into the arena, and readied his blade for their duel. He had seen Kohu train many times, back in Carapar's army, and even sparred with him a few times. For him, this exercise would be almost like old times. Almost. Not for the first time, he quietly cursed the Shadowed One and his price.

The years had clearly changed Kohu, most notably by leeching all of the colour from his armour, but Acanon was pleased to note that he still carried a crossbow, his signature weapon. It wasn't the same model, of course, but it still made him smile slightly. Some things didn't change.

"So, Kohu" Acanon said as he closed the gap between them, swinging his blade experimentally. "I told you my story on the run, but how did you come to join the Dark Hunters? Odina seems an odd place to find an old comrade."

IC:Kohu (Ghost)

I knew I'd need to be ready for any kind of attack at any given moment, but I couldn't help but suspend my guard for just a moment for the sake of chatting with an old accomplice. "When the League ended I lost my purpose, I found myself doing nothing for a while, till I found other people who would pay for someone with skills like mine".

"Oh how it felt like old times when I got back on the field again" I smiled wistfully. "So I took another job and another, I'd work for whoever irregardless of who they were and the morality of it, including Makuta"

I readied my stance again, I'd monologued enough for now. "Eventually the Dark Hunters noticed someone was out-pricing them, so I got recruited"

Her opponent had drawn his weapon. A staff, more specifically. And he hadn't even bothered to clean it.
Making no noise or movement that could give away her thoughts or the like, she begun slowly strafing, each footstep precise and calculated.

OOC: Sorry for the delay on this one.

IC (Mimc): Mimic mirrored Erox's movements, dashing suddenly to his left to avoid the gouts of plasma. The Dark Hunter then changed direction suddenly, taking three quick bounds to close the gap between them and swing his blade at the Vortixx's midsection.

IC (Huntsman): "The Makuta" he grimaced, taking step forward as he swung his blade at Kohu for a second time. "They were the ones that... changed you?"

IC:

Mirror cursed under his breath. He was having one Karz of a first day as a recruit.

----

It had started with that dream. He'd had it the past few nights, so he shouldn't have been surprised it would come again, nor the splitting headaches. It was the same dream every time. Mirror was standing on the walls of a Dark Hunter outpost when a pair of vile Toa appeared beside him. They jeered him and his filthy clothing, pointing their weapons at him. They attacked.

And he fought back. Toa were supposed to be among the best trained fighters in the world, but Mirror's ferocity and viciousness turned the tide and at the end he stood triumphant over their soon-to-be corpses, his claws bloodied and his jaw cocked in a devilish grin. He picked one of the Toa up by the neck to inspect it's mask when a glint in the Toa's eye made Mirror pause. The Skakdi moved his own head closer to the Toa's and gazed it's eyes. He saw his own reflection.

But it wasn't a Skakdi staring back. It was a Toa.

And that's when Mirror woke up, screaming with his head feeling like it was going to explode. He had run to the infirmary where he was treated and told to take some medication against these dreams. Apparently such things were the price to pay for the Dark Hunter's gifts, said the healer. They would pass in time, Mirror was told.  But now he just had to make his way back to the rest of the recruits.

----

He'd missed the morning run and only caught site of the maze entrance just as the last recruit was entering. By the time Mirror made it everyone else had probably already finished.

Mirror cursed again.  He had hoped to catch site of another recruit using their abilities, so Mirror could copy it himself, but now he'd have to get through the maze without the help of his Kanohi. Karz.

He unsheathed his broadsword, took a deep breath, and stepped into the maze.

He saw nearly a dozen set of footprints in all directions, which he tried to avoid as much as possible. He might be mirror, but he wouldn't copy someone else's success on the first day. Or their failure. He took a left at one intersection, then a right. He tripped a wire that sent a cascade of  head-shaped rocks directly on top of him but which he dodged easily.

Too easily.

Mirror looked in all directions. This maze was hiding something. He was moving through it too quickly. He slowed his pace. Mirror noticed a pair of false floor tiles and sidestepped both. He began moving forward when he heard a roar up ahead. He widened his stance and raised his blade protectively. Mirror could hear something running towards him, fast. The Skakdi didn't see anything until it was almost too late.

It was a blur, some creature with inherent camouflage that made it blend into the maze's walls and floor. If it has been standing still Mirror would have missed it entirely. As it was, the camo-creature leapt at him, which Mirror only avoided by bending backwards and ultimately falling onto his behind.  He heard the camo land - on four paws? - and snarl while claws scraped the floor.

Mirror jumped upright, dropping his blade and grabbed hold of bot his dagger as he turned to face the hidden foe.  Mirror snarled back at his opponent. Then he drew a dagger against the back of his left hand and let the blood flow.  The next five seconds were tense as he and the Rahi faced off, at least as much as anyone could face off against a near-invisible foe. Instinct would determine Mirror's success.

He felt as much as heard as the Rahi tensed its muscles, scraped it's claws against the floor as it retracted them in anticipation. It's breathing paused. And then it leapt again.

Mirror was ready for it this time. He dodged to side but swung his left arm against the Rahi's side, delivering a strong blow and winding the predator. And most importantly, leaving a streak of his own blood on the creature's hide. Now Mirror's target was clear, and this would go much easier.

He didn't wait for the Rahi to ready itself for another jump.

Mirror ran forwards, brandishing his daggers like a madman and slicing one through the creature's side. There was a satisfactory scream of pain from the Rahi and Mirror lashed out again, this time cutting it's leg. He shoved the creature to the side as it began to realize it no longer had the upper hand.  Blood flowing from it's wounds it started to run away, towards the entrance of the maze.

Mirror wouldn't let it escape. He was having too much fun now. Mirror moved to follow it. He bounded after it when, two steps later, he heard a click.

He froze, balancing on one foot. One of the traps he'd sidestepped earlier.

Karz.

A flurry of darts flew through the air at him. He tried to dodge but one hit his arm, another his leg. In a flash he slashed with his daggers, cutting the darts before letting his weapons clang to the floor as he dug the needles out. Hopefully they hadn't delivered to much poison. Whatever poison it was.

Karz.

He didn't have time to spare now.  Mirror gathered up his weapons and turned back away from the entrance and ran. One left, then a right.  Dead end. Back fifty paces, take a left then another.  His arm was starting to tingle. Was that normal? Was that just from blood loss?

He came up to a climbing wall. He took a running leap and grabbed onto handhold seven feet high, nearly a third the height of the wall. He lunged upwards to next handhold, then the next. His powerful legs helped boost him higher, and then his leg started to tingle. Just a few more feet.

Then he couldn't feel his arm.

Mirror lay dangling against the side of the wall, hanging on with one hand and his feet. The top was so close. He bunched his legs and jumped up.

He wrapped his one good arm over the wall and began scrambling with his legs to push himself over.

Mirror started to tip over. The Skakid tried to stop himself, but then his one of his legs stopped working. And he realized he really hadn't thought this one through. The wall was over twenty feet high, for goodness sake.

Mirror started to fall in earnest.

Before he hit the ground he remembered one of the gifts the Dark Hunters had given him. The ability to use his elemental powers without other Skakdi. He unleashed a burst of air, slowing him down. Not very much, but enough. He still fell onto the floor with a crash, and Mirror was sure he'd find a number of new bruises on his body tomorrow morning.  Feeling around, he was confident he didn't have any broken bones. At least not in any of the limbs he could presently use and/or feel.

He looked up ahead of him. He was in a small corridor now, the maze's exit in sight.  Mirror clambered up onto one leg and leaned against one of the corridor's walls. He unsheathed the broadsword and held it point down, using it as a makeshift crutch. The Skakdi started to hop forward, out of the maze.

Everyone else was already out, readying themselves in the combat arena.

Mirror hopped towards them.

One Karz of a first day.

OOC: Oops, missed that first blade swing, my apologies.

IC: I jumped backwards to avoid the swing. "It's better I show you what they did than waste time talking about about it."

Within the next moment I fully unleashed my powers, and fog descended on our pat of the arena, blocking Acanons view and muffling sound. I dived behind cover as I made for some distance between us, sneaking round to a new position to gauge how Acanon would react. With my infra red vision I could see him in detail, but he could see nothing through the mist.

IC: Erox (Specialist) - Fighting Mimic

I shot upwards, the sword slicing nothing but air.

My orange eyes focused on Mimic within a moment.

My rifle still out, I opened fire, three bursts of blue plasma erupting from the barrel of my weapon.

IC (Huntsman): As the fog descended, Acanon recoiled from it, but could do nothing to stop if from forming all around him. Within the haze, he could barely see to the end of his blade. All of a sudden, Nidhiki's earlier comment made a lot more sense.

What to do then? He couldn't stand around and wait to get hit, but moving would be difficult too. It would be comically easy for him to blunder into a trap like this. He chose to compromise and rolled behind a low wall to give himself a bit of cover while he looked for a way out. Pushing on the fog with his mask didn't help at all, and Odina held few rahi that might be useful to him. That left his illusions. If Kohu wanted to turn this into a game of hide and seek, well, two could play at that game.

Acanon had obtained his mask back when he had served with Carapar, so it was possible that Kohu could know of his illusion. That didn't make them useless, though. He conjured up an image of a dozen stone rats, all scurrying away from his position in different directions. As soon as they found somewhere they might conceal themselves, in a pile of planks, or within a hole, they faded away. With a dozen false trails, any of which, to an outside observer, might have been him in disguise, he could now go about his real movements with a little less worry of being immediately shot at.

His real disguise would be to take on the appearance of another recruit, a small black-armoured Matoran he had seen coming towards this area. Nidhiki had instructed them not to interfere with any duels other than their own, so this should give him a measure of protection. Wearing the Matoran's appearance, he ran around a couple of corners, threw a look back over his shoulder as if he were being chased, and then grabbed onto the scaffolding to haul himself up. Perhaps, from the high platforms at the top of this structure, he could get above this magical mist and see what was going on.

IC (Mimic): Quick as a flash, Mimic swung his sword in an arc that caught all three plasma bolts. The sticky substance hardened around it, turning the weapon from a blade into a club. As Erox came down from his jump, Mimic was ready to smash it into him just as he landed.

OOC: First part of two-post jam between Nato and I

IC: Galrax "Spirit"/ Corrivalis (Whisper)

“Well, if you insist,” Spirit said. “I won’t go easy on you just because you didn’t take my offer. Though...let’s count down first, shall we? On the count of ten, we’ll fight.” Spirit adjusted her stance, her fists held low, and her legs spread apart.

“One.”

Her gaze was fixed forwards, towards Whisper. She analyzed her opponent, carefully watching her every move.
“Two.”

Her fists were clenched. Her body bobbed slowly back and forth, almost lazily.
“Three.”

Her smirk hadn’t faded at all.

“Four.”

Spirit crouched, readying her body to pounce…

“...Ten.”

...and then she vanished. Her body became incorporeal, and she swiftly fell through the landing she had stood on. She had to figure out what angle to approach from in order to get to Whisper.

“I guess basic numeracy skills aren’t a requirement to join the Dark Hunters,” Corri - no, Whisper, that was her name now - muttered to herself.

With no point of reference, aside from the knowledge that her opponent was currently somewhere below where she’d previously been, Whisper threw herself towards the nearest section of scaffolding, and began to climb, glancing down every few moments for any sign of Spirit.

Hopefully Spirit couldn’t fly, on top of everything else…

Spirit paused underneath the scaffolding for a second, listening for Whisper’s footsteps. Sure enough, she could hear whisper moving...but not where she expected. Spirit leapt upwards, activating her super speed in order to rocket through the scaffolding floor she had stood on moments before, in order to get a sense of where whisper had gone. She glanced around, until she caught sight of Whisper ascending the scaffolding.

With a devious grin, Spirit activated her speed again and flew directly towards Whisper, her fist outstretched...and became corporeal mere seconds before her fist was set to intersect with Whisper’s side.

Whisper saw Spirit coming. Barely. Just a glimpse, a blur of movement. Not enough to even think about trying to evade the blow, but enough for her to tighten her grip on the scaffold and brace herself for the impact.

The punch still knocked the breath out of her, still hurt like karz, but she clung tightly to her handholds, and swung out one of her legs, hoping to land a kick on her attacker.

Unsurprisingly, the kick connected with Spirit’s face, She grunted, and was launched backwards. Her body hit the scaffolding below with a loud thunk, and she sat there groaning. Her face hurt. She tasted a bit of blood.

Nevertheless, she stood up. She wavered as she rose, but managed to stay on her feet. “Oh,” she said, “You’re good.”

She mentally began counting down again, preparing to go incorporeal again...this time, she wouldn’t try to do a flying punch. After all, it didn’t really work the first time.

“Glad I didn’t take you up on that one-hit offer?” She wheezed, hauling herself up onto the next platform and rubbing at her bruised side, “I’d have won already, otherwise.”

Cursing her lack of ranged weaponry, she remained where she was, and waited to see what Spirit would do next.

“Guess I am glad!” Spirit responded, spitting out a touch of blood. It didn’t seem like Whisper would come down, which meant Spirit could easily go back to being incorporeal. Her mental countdown hit zero, and she once again vanished.

But not before visibly jumping upwards.

Once she had become ghostly again, she flew upwards, towards the top of the scaffolding. This time she would wait patiently up there, for Whisper to arrive...that way, she could knock her off and win.

With nothing else to go on except that Spirit had seemingly gone up, Whisper resumed her climb. As she did, she powered up her mask, searching furtively around for any sign of where Spirit might be lurking.

Even with the Akaku, Whisper couldn’t seem to see spirit anywhere. She watched silently from the top of the scaffolding, waiting for Whisper to arrive...just so she could kick her off.

My my, Spirit thought, this is harder than I expected.

Well, no one ever said this would be easy, Whisper thought to herself, as she reached the summit of her climb, and began to clamber up over the edge, onto the top of the scaffold.

Out of seemingly nowhere, a foot materialized in front of Whisper’s face - and it was already moving very, very fast. Spirit had been waiting atop the scaffolding the entire time.

“Gotcha.”

IC: Galrax "Spirit" vs Corrivalis (Whisper) - Jam Post, Finale.

The foot collided directly with the front of Whisper’s head, sending her reeling backwards, her mask flying from her face. She managed to maintain her grip on the scaffold with one of her hands, swinging herself down onto the next platform down, rather than the much longer fall, all the way back down to ground level.

“That wasn’t very sporting of you!” She shouted up to Spirit, leaning against the scaffold while she waited for her blurry vision to clear.

Spirit jumped down, shouting “Well Hunters don’t play fair anyways!” She landed, and rolled away from Whisper. With surprising grace from someone who had also got kicked in the face just a short while before, she stood up, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

“C’mon. I’m waiting.”

She mentally noted the distance. It should be just enough for it to take five seconds for Whisper to reach her...just barely. At least with her still recovering from the kick, that is.

Spirit was faster, and could turn herself intangible to avoid hits. Which meant Whisper’s only course of action was to do the unexpected. There’s always another way… So she broke into a run, aiming herself straight at Spirit, and turning her charge into a full-on dive as she closed in.

Spirit was taken aback by how fast Whisper charged at her. By the time Whisper had jumped to tackle Spirit, only three seconds had passed. Spirit grunted in pain as Whisper slammed into her, knocking her onto her rear, and knocking the air out of her. Her concentration was broken - there was no way she would manage to turn intangible yet.

Spirit couldn’t even manage to punch Whisper she was so surprised, simply falling onto the ground, stunned. What…? She thought.

Holy karz, I didn’t actually expect that to work. In all likelihood, Spirit would soon turn intangible again and sink through the floor to safety, but in the meantime… Whisper brought back her hand, aiming a punch for her opponent’s jaw.

Spirit brought her own arms up quickly, preparing to protect her face while she could. She had to gather her senses, so she could get out of this sticky situation. She certainly didn’t have the body strength to throw Whisper off of her, after all.

Whisper had little experience when it came to brawling in general, but now that she was stuck in this position, she had to try to make the best of it. She continued to lash out with her hands, raining a volley of sloppy, unprofessional punches down towards Spirit’s head.

Spirit did her best to weather the blows, but she could already tell it wouldn’t help her much. She wasn’t used to being actually physically hit - after all, she usually phased out of these problems. She grunted in pain with each blow, unable to do much aside from block.

Then an idea hit her.

She pushed her arms upwards, towards Whisper, and rotated her hips at the same time. Maybe, just maybe, she could rock Whisper off this way...if she was lucky, that is.

Whisper tumbled sideways, falling onto her back with a grunt, “Punching hurts,” she groaned, rubbing her hands as she sat up, “Why does everyone think punching is a good idea?”

“Oww…” Spirit mumbled, rubbing her sore forearms. “Blocking punches hurts, too. Jeez.” She sat there for a moment, in an attempt to gather her thoughts again.

“...Wanna call it a draw until you get your mask back?” Spirit asked. “Gotta make sure I didn’t break it.”

“I’m sure it’s fine,” Whisper got to her feet, peering over the edge of the platform to try to see where the mask had landed, “that Kanohi and I have been through worse falls than that.”

Although, those falls hadn’t ended too well for her.

“If you say so,” Spirit said nonchalantly. She stood up, still rubbing her arms. “You can punch pretty hard, y’know. Or I’m just really soft. Or both.”

“Probably both,” she agreed, starting to lower herself over the edge, “I’m going to get my mask, then we can try for round 2. I would greatly appreciate it if you didn’t try to murder me while I’m on my way down.”

Spirit waved a hand and smirked. “Don’t worry about that. This isn’t a who can kill who faster competition. Just...sparring. Grab your mask, I’ll wait up here for you.”

“Alright,” Whisper began the careful clamber back down to ground level, where she found her mask lying half-buried in a mound of dirt and sawdust. After putting it on, however, she didn’t climb back up. Instead, she activated the Kanohi, analysing the scaffolding upon which Spirit was presumably still perched, searching for… Perfect.

She drew her swords, striking out at one of the supports that held up the scaffold. In her analysis had been correct, the rest of the platform would begin to give out under its own weight…

Crack.

Spirit looked around in surprise. She had been standing idly around, waiting for Whisper to make her way back up. What she didn’t expect was for her to attack the scaffolding. Spirit cursed quietly under her breath as it shifted and began tumbling downwards, struts and boards collapsing onto the ground.

She was lucky that she went incorporeal before a board landed on top of her head.

“That sneaky little...Oh, I’m gonna kick her .” Spirit growled, as she leapt down from the platform. She activated her super speed, and began rushing down towards Whisper. A few thoughts ran through Spirit’s mind - particularly that Whisper expected her to attack, most likely.

So, her immediate thought was to fly past Whisper, and instead aim a flying kick to the back of her head. Waiting until the very, very last possible second, Spirit rematerialized, her foot outstretched, flying at great speeds towards the back of Whisper’s head.

Whisper, admittedly, hadn’t thought this plan all the way through.

With the scaffold collapsing apart behind her, she broke into a run, ducking and scrambling wildly to avoid being crushed by toppling debris. And in the exact instant she thought she’d made it, something uncannily foot-shaped collided spectacularly with the back of her skull, and her face abruptly became well acquainted with the hard, gritty ground.

Unconsciousness was instantaneous.

Spirit stood over Whisper, and lightly nudged her a few times. She idly scratched the back of her head and shrugged. “Maybe next time you won’t play dirty during a cease-fire. Though...I would’ve done the same,” she chuckled.

Now there wasn’t much left to do aside from either wait for Nidihki to let them out, or for Whisper to wake up. And with how thoroughly out of it she was, Spirit felt like the former would happen far sooner.

“Hope I didn’t give you brain damage, at least. We aren’t supposed to kill each other, after all.”

Mirror hopped into the combat arena. His arm was starting to tingle again though he still couldn't feel anything else or move it an inch. Once inside, he leaned against the wall and watched the matches.

He noticed one fight going on in which one of the fighters kept disappearing. And reappeared right before hitting her opponent.

The Skakdi grinned. Now that was an interesting power.

~Command confirmed. Kanohi activated. Copying beginning now ~

The Mask of Emulation began to glow as it started copying the fighter's incorporeality ability. In a few minutes it'd be ready for Mirror to use.

"That was a great fight!" he called out to Spirit. "And fun to watch too!"

"Found myself in the infirmary this morning so I'm a little behind the pack. Everyone else already has their opponents."

Spirit let out a low whistle. "Dang," she said, "you people had way too much trouble with that obstacle course. I'm amazed no one died with how many people got injured."

Spirit sat down with a thump and waved. "Spirit. I'm a Dark Hunter recruit. Didn't really have much of a life before this, so I don't feel like talking about it. Kinda boring, even with all the Visorak."

"Not talking about the past sounds good to me. Just thinking about it tends to give me headaches" Mirror joked, though he was also being entirely serious. Those headaches were horrible.

He hopped over to Spirit and tried to lower himself to the ground slowly, but in his state he ended up just falling a mess of limbs.

Mirror struggled to turn himself to a generally upright seated position. His leg had begun to tingle and his arm now ached slightly, which he took as a good sign.

"So you're a Dark Hunter recruit? Funny meeting you here, I am one too " he said sarcastically. Turning more serious and a little conspiratorial, he continued "To be honest, I'm not sure the obstacle course wasn't meant to be deadly. You, help weed out bad apples, separate the chaff and all that. I wouldn't be surprised if some people from our group don't last the week."

"You'll be fine though. Anything too dangerous comes around and you'll just go incorporeal again. That's a useful fighting style you have, you know. You ever think of buffing up those muscles to make your corporeal punches pack some more, well, punch?"

spirit hummed in contemplation. "Well, seems like a bad idea to kill off so many prospective recruits, but getting the best of the best out of it is needed. After all...having someone who might flake or die soon in the mission wouldn't be too smart," she replied. "But I doubt a bunch will die. I know I'll be fine. Only thing that can even affect me when I'm incorporeal are Kanoka passing through me, and that's only if they manage to do so."

She rubbed her still sore arms. "Though I don't think working out would be too smart. I'm built for speed, not strength. 'Sides, with the way I punch and kick, strength wouldn't help me at all."

IC: Hijack
Hijack sized up their opponent for a moment. A skakdi wearing dull gold armour, wearing a mask shaped like a Crast that apparently aligned with his natural spine, yet did not have the power of a Crast. Intriguing. Hijack was not aware that Skakdi could even use Kanohi. Clearly there had to more to this opponent than could be discerned at first glance.

With a voice that sounded like slithering and grinding noises emulating speech, Hijack addressed Mirror. "You... you are my opponent."

IC: Ghost VS Huntsman

I crept behind Acanon's trail. I noticed several objects flee from the position he had hid in, but they were the wrong temperature so I paid them no attention. No, only one object had Acanons heat signature. I couldn't make out what he was disguised as, in these situations I could only rely on my thermal vision and it showed me that a person with the body heat of a titan squeezed into the area of a Matoran was clambering up some scaffold.

Loading my rope tied crossbow bolt, as Acanon reached the top. I fired at a vulnerable piece of the scaffold then pulled back on the rope, pulling out part of the structure and sending the whole thing tumbling down.

OOC: Whoa, sorry, this RP is moving a lot faster than I thought... I'll try to keep up more.

IC: Sukiru (Sting) - Arena

The rest of the course had been much simpler. Her bioluminescence helped her find the drain for the pool which allowed her to pass there, and the only other thing standing in her way was a Kanoka launcher which was easy enough to deactivate with her knives.

After all of that, the healing was probably the worst part. But it was a necessary evil, as Dark Hunters don't get breaks.

She licked her sore lip as she studied this "Reaver." Another Skakdi, like her, armed with medieval weapons that she would have to stay far away from. Easy enough.

IC: Zekev

A Skakdi in blue and black, missing a few teeth, adorned with a belt of knives.

Hum. This might be a little tricky.

Zekev pulled out both his shield and axe, shield raised in front of him. The daggers looked like they were of the throwing sort, and he didn't want his day to end with a missing eye. Or any of his days, for that matter.

IC:

"Fair enough" Mirror acknowledged with a nod of his head.

He also took note of Spirit's comment about Kanoka. Most of the abilities he copied using his Mask would come from his fellow Dark Hunters, including the other recruits, so it'd be handy to know their strengths as well as their weaknesses. Especially their weaknesses.

"But just so you know, I think you punch and kick just fine. It's a little haphazard, but it gets the job done."

Suddenly another recruit appeared.

"You... you are my opponent."

"Huh?" Mirror looked up at the being that had addressed him. "Being" was really the best word Mirror to describe what faced him. It looked like a Toa, if the Toa had had all it's organics ripped out and replaced with a mass of writhing black vines. It's eyes were eerily vacant, as if they serve no real purpose. In it's chest was another third eye. Looking at it gave Mirror goosebumps.

"I guess Nidhiki is more on top of things than I realized. Mind giving me a few minutes to recover from the obstacle course? The paralyzing agents are nearly out of my system" Mirror said with a friendly smile. It was all true - he was beginning to be able to move his arm again, and some sensation had started to return to his leg. But most importantly his mask still needed some time to copy Spirit's ability.

"Umm, what are you, by the way?" he asked, stalling for time. 'Who' didn't seem like the appropriate question.

IC: Sukiru (Sting) - Arena

Seemed it was up to her to make the first move. She could already tell this was going to be a long battle...

Sting pulled out a dagger, considering its weight and edge for a moment before hurling it toward Reaver's sword arm. She wasn't intending to do any damage (though an early strike would be a boon), but just poke at his defenses.

IC Lukasi - Metronome

And then it happened - Lukasi's boredom reached a point where he decided going in a few rounds would be more worth it than sitting here waiting for him to die of boredom, back down, or walk closer and take a peek. So he sprung up from the sand, grabbing his khopesh-

And at this rate, he would be flying well over his opponent, possibly out of the arena, and definitely into another fight. Maybe with Nidhiki. So he tried to bring his heavy feet down on his opponent's head, although undershooting or overshooting the trajectory was very possible at this point.

IC: Votadox (Psyker) - Combat Arena

Finally, an event is taking place. My muscles are, as usual, poised. I tend to keep them that way permanently these days. Better safe than sorry.

My arenaceous amigo leaps forwards, and initially I think he's aiming for me. I'm disappointed, and a little dejected. Nevertheless my pre-poised muscles respond. Fight or flight. Or in my case, a tasty blend of both. After a small fraction of a moment has passed, I can trace my granular challenger's trajectory: he's looking to hop down upon me and crush me in the same bargain. Time slows, so to speak. I rush forwards reflexively. Meanwhile, my body elects to spin on its heels. Therefore my form swings to face my sabulous adversary behind me. He, of course, won't be facing me.

Impudently lazy yet lightning fast, I draw my weapon. It too follows an arc. Its barrel turns up, it's nose flares with anger. Its torso shuders as it lets loose a bolt at my ungainly enemy.

IC: Galrax "Spirit"

She cast her gaze down towards Whisper, and chuckled. "Rise and shine. Had a good sleep?" She laughed a bit more heartily, then glanced up to look towards the...strange sounding voice.

"Dear Mata-Nui what the karz are you?" She said, staring in confusion and mild disgust at Hijack. "A Toa of nasty?"

IC: Corrivalis (Whisper) - World of Hurt.

"Did you... stomp on my head?" Corri groaned, propping herself up against a section of wall.

IC: Hijack
"Toa?"
There was a horrendous noise of metallic grinding and fleshy squishing and slithering, which together in a vile chorus produced something almost akin to a sadistic laughter. "This body... no longer of a toa..." Hijack gestured at themselves. "Now it's Hijack."

IC Lukasi - Metronome

Psyker had bolted out from under him, spun, and fired that conspicuous weapon at him. A member of that one species, was he not? the one that... Hm. The one that lead the great armies called the Bakari, perhaps? didn't he have mind control?

However, he seemed to miscalculate just how fast Lukasi really was. He ducked himself down as the blast rocketed over his head, landing gracefully on the ground and whirling to face his opponent.

Hopefully he was still recovering from suddenly sending himself flying backwards.

IC (Huntsman): Acanon hadn't been expecting that. Somehow, Kohu had seen through both the fog his illusions, and then prevented him from gaining a better vantage point. Annoyed as he was, Huntsman had to give him due credit for that. The trick with the scaffolding wasn't bad either.

A bubble of force exploded out from Acanon's mask, pushing away the bits of debris, and allowing him to land safely back on the ground. He landed near to thejoint piece that had been pierced by Kohu's crossbow bolt, and quickly scooped it up, feeling tension in the line. That rope would lead him straight back to the one who had fired it. Rope in hand, Acanon sprinted back along its length, hurdling half-done constructions as he went.

IC (Mimic): Mimic held his ground, letting the two combatants trade blows. Erox's kick glanced off his right arm, while in his left, his blow with the club continued unimpeded.

IC: Votadox (Psyker) - Comat Arena

I sigh internally, which is easier than sighing externally. My opponent is as thick as a pile of sand. Oh wait. Haha.

Its lumbering form has spun. I imagine it thinks it's being efficient, or even graceful. The thought makes me so sympathetic towards it that I almost break down in tears. As it is, I simply wait. A brief fraction of a second, to be exact. It's an incredibly mundane fraction of a second, it's true to say. But by its completion the bolt has detonated on the wall just behind my opponent. The result is a ball of bludgeoning air appearing behind my enemy. Half of the sphere is round its hulking bulk of a body. The word 'sudden' might be used by beings less perceptive than me.

My opponent's inelegant twirl took seconds. So now I'm reloading and re-aiming my weapon. Just waiting for the moment when it'll be ready. In the meantime, I amuse myself by watching the result of my assault.
