IC: Kohu (Ghost)

My suspicion subsided. It was good to see Acanon remembered some things correctly, and wasn't making up part of our past.. Memories do blur together after a few thousand years

IC: Konu-To

IC (Shadowboxer): Krahua headed slowly back to the barracks, mentally giving himself a strong talking-to. He was still shaken by his freak-out freeze-up during the last moments of his duel with Skondh, and admonished himself strongly for it. He had regressed back to an old, outdated, unhelpful mindset. He had to put that beyond him here. This was supposed to be a fresh start fir him, with no looking back. He was to be a strong, self-made Dark Hunter, who set his own course through life, not the cowering slave he had been. The new shadow-driven part of himself hated that had been before, and it disturbed him greatly that it could resurface so strongly and so suddenly. It could not be allowed to happen again.

He opened the barracks door with a creak, only to see what appeared to be an ape-like rahi, lying on a messy pile of blankets pulled from some of the beds near to it, including Krahua's own. Wonderful. The last thing he needed right now was for one of the training beasts to escape containment, find its way into the barracks and start rifling through his stuff.

"Oh, get out of here." He grunted at the rahi, then raised his hands and his voice to scare the animal off. "Hey! You! Scram! Get out of my stuff and go bother someone else!"

IC: Sukiru (Sting) - Arena

"What?" Sting peeked out from behind the column to see her plan had actually worked. She honestly didn't expect it to.

But she quickly grasped the situation and sauntered over as gracefully as her aching body could allow. She kneeled next to him with a pained wince she turned into a victorious grin. "Maybe you should watch where you're going next time," she sneered. One hand gathered up the hilts of her daggers and neatly tore them from the column before she standing to walk away, stepping over him and the column.

IC: Zekev [Reaver]

Zekev mumbled under his breath as he pushed himself up. He considered attacking her from behind, but dismissed the notion.

She didn't kill me. I guess I shouldn't push my luck too far.

IC (Shadowboxer):

IC: Abominable

The figure in the doorway mumbled something, then shouted, "Hey, You! Scram! Get out of my stuff and go bother someone else!"

With its concentration now fully broken by this interloper, the rahi's mind gave into the fear and anger that had always driven it. It growled at the intruder.

"No... You... go. This... home," the beast said as it took a defensive stance on its nest of cloth. "I... I am Dark Hunter."

The room's temperature dropped several degrees as the supercharger fused to Its back activated. It would not leave without a fight, but it secretly hoped that it would not come to that.

IC (Shadowboxer):

"I am Dark Hunter".

Well that was a surprise, but apparently, Krahua had underestimated this creatures intelligence, even given its limited grammar. As the rahi stood up, he saw that there some kind of machine attached to its back, giving further credence to the idea that this was no ordinary rahi. Apparently it was now a fellow trainee. And it couldn't just be told to shoo. How wonderful. Not.

"Oh, I'm sorry" Krahua replied, though a little of his annoyance still coloured his voice, "I mistook you for an escaped beast. Still, though, you can't go taking everyone's blankets like that. There's a spare bed in the corner that you can have, but the rest of us need blankets too."

As he spoke, Krahua hauled his own blanket out of the pile, and threw it back onto his own bunk in a crumpled heap.

IC: Galrax "Spirit" / The Barracks

Spirit made her way back to the barracks. She had won her fight, though her arms still felt sore. Not as sore as her opponent must have felt, though. Spirit was lost in thought to the point where she nearly bumped into a short, stocky Vortixx.

"Oh. . Sorry 'bout that," Spirit said. "Didn't see you there. Rough fight?"

OOC: That'd be Erox.

IC: Abominable

Konu-To couldn't help but cock its head in confusion, its momentary angry having dissipated with this other being's apology, having completely missed the obvious venom. It had never once heard of this behavior from those who'd lived on the Tren Krom peninsula. As the rahi awkwardly stepped out of the way of this apparent ally, it wondered what about its own speech had made the matoran act this way. Curious, it decided to mimic him, taking a single blanket and bringing it to a cot.

IC (Huntsman): "You weren't?" Acanon was momentarily taken aback by this statement, it not having occurred to him that Kohu would try to test his memory. And now that the test was done, the results perturbed him. It had been dozens of millennia since he and Kohu had last spoken to one another, but he had thought that his memory was sound. They had shared several important events, after all.

"Shall we lay it out, then, where we were and when, back in the League, just so we're clear? So we don't have to be testing or lying or sneaking around with each other?"

He hoped Kohu would agree to this. Partly, he wanted to reassure himself about his own recollections, but also because he would rather have a friend with whom he could talk with in a straightforward manner, without all the secrecy and betrayal that was common among the Dark Hunters. Long ago, Acanon had liked Kohu, as he had been a reliable and skilled team mate, and the Murau hoped that he could be again.

Well it was an excuse to reminisce about old times, may as well walk and talk about the past. We began to head back to the barracks.

"I apologise for treating you with suspicion, but ever since the fall of the empires there's been a rumor about a traitor, it's been hard to trust anyone since then ... still for our mutual history I think we can both remember when I was assigned to your unit, a mere rookie at the time"

--IC: Idgaddiy and Skondh--

As they sat waiting for Screamer to arrive, Idgaddiy decided that this would be a good time to determine his allies and enemies.

The Akula was to be dealt with first.  He still did not like her, and not just because she had bested him in combat.  The way she carried herself, her oddly formal way of talking, and her use of sophisticated weapons- those were the marks of a royal.  Forget the fact that she had shown him respect at his loss; she was royalty, and he hated royals.  She would be an enemy.

The Barcudo that could climb, he thought, could be useful.  Even though he had been bested- though it wasn't surprising, given that his latter opponent had been Nidhiki- he still showed remarkable potential.  His innate hypnotic abilities, coupled with the agility he had shown climbing up the wall earlier, would be wonderful to have around.  He would be an ally.

The Vortixx with mechanical legs seemed to show disdain for the Akula as well.  For that reason alone, he would be an ally.

Most of the others, he had had no interaction with.  He'd determine their places in time.

For his part, Skondh stared at his toes and wished that Screamer would get here soon.  He was hungry.

IC (Shadowboxer): So this rahi was easily cowed, then. All the better, Krahua thought, as some of his annoyance abated. Obviously it would be dangerous when provoked, or else the Dark Hunters would have no use for training it, but in ordinary situations it seemed that it was placid and happy to follow instructions from its betters. Perhaps this wasn't so bad after all. With a bit of encouragement, it could even turn out to be useful.

"That's much better." He told the rahi. "Now you have your own bed, just like I have mine. It's a little bit of home that we have to ourselves, even when all the other recruits come in here."

Having explained this, Krahua kicked back on his remade bed, put his hands behind his head and let out a deep relaxing breath.

IC (Huntsman): "Right, but a promising one, to be sure." Acanon agreed. "I had just been promoted also, after Carapar's forces had taken and secured the lands around Poneke. He declared that the city would be his capital, but also set his sights on the nearer Southern Islands. When he left the continent, he decided to split his forces: he would take the majority into the eastern chain, while my division and I would secure the less populated islands in the west."

IC (Screamer): Having finished patching up the remainder of the fresh meat, Screamer hustled back to her lair. She had performed several healings already today, and would have to replenish her resources soon. It was a messy job, but someone had to do it.

When she arrived at the storehouse, however, she found the same two recruits who had visited earlier, loitering around her door. She clicked agitatedly as she withdrew a ring of keys from within her chitinous exoskeleton and began to open up.

"You again!" She hissed. "What do you want now?"

"We'Re HeRe FoR STeaKS!" Skondh piped up as soon as Screamer had finished her question.

Idgaddiy stood up.  "Apologies, Screamer; my friend here is simply hungry.  We were told that you were the one to go to if we needed any special nutritional accommodations.  And for my friend here, those accommodations would be steaks.  Do you have any?"

IC: Kohu (Walking to barracks)

"And it was on those islands that I honed my stealth doing reconnaissance and you honed your tactics with the information I brought ... alongside our brothers in arms we were a perfect team"

I cut myself off, I couldn't get too nostalgic. We had a future to plan and new allies to make in this team of recruits. "and maybe we can make a new team with the other recruits, let me show you the barracks"

IC: Corrivalis (Whisper) - Barracks.

Still rubbing at the back of her head, Corri stumbled into the barracks and clambered up onto her top bunk, slumping face-first into her pillow and half-heartedly dragged her blanket over her.

IC: Sukiru (Sting) - Barracks

After a fairly trivial second visit to Screamer, Sting was ready for some more relaxing at the barracks. She limped over there, wondering if all of this was ever going to be worth it. When she finally flopped down on the bed, she hardly even noticed the missing blanket or the askew mattress.

IC (Screamer): "A carnivore?" Screamer said in her strange, clicking voice. She then continued, musing over her words before becoming sharper as she reached her conclusions. "Meat, I can provide. Steaks, will take longer. I must butcher another, but I think the next will die soon. Yes. You shall have your feed by sundown. Now, begone with you! I have work to do."

She shooed the two out before slamming the door behind them, and buzzing away into the back. It wasn't long before another sound issued form the storehouse, sounding like a pained scream.

IC (Huntsman): While he found Kohu's practicality admirable, Acanon's own nostalgia was not to be derailed. He was sunk in too deep, and couldn't be pulled out now until he had finished reminiscing properly. He continued the story as he strolled along beside Kohu.

"Yes, yes. Smaller than the army to be sure, but more like the team we took to Artidax. It was a bit of a scramble, wasn't it? Our army had pushed the Skerans back to their last fortress, up on those cliffs beside the sea, when we got word that the Toa Artidax had had a change of heart. They didn't want to sit in their own fortress any more, but to stop us before we could reach their island.

"That really set the muaka among the gukko. With the Toa's help, there was no doubt that the Skerans would be able to hold out against us, or even force us to retreat. Carapar would have been furious. And yet, we could hardly leave to confront the Toa in numbers: the Skerans were on the back foot, but far from defeated.

"And so: the team. A few of our best warriors and specialists, sneaking out of camp in the dead of night so that no-one in the fortress would suspect we were gone. We travelled light, and fast, finding our way through rough lands while keeping a watch out for any sign of the Toa. It was you who found them, wasn't it? Just as they were setting up their camp for the night. We sprung our ambush, beat the Toa, and I claimed my mask. By the time we made it back to the rest of the army, we were all haggard, but after that it wasn't long before the Skerans learned that no help was coming and accepted defeat."

"Well then. Why don't I give you a headstart? I'll give you a second to go, then I'll see you at the end of the hall." Her smile remained fixed in place, almost predatory now. "Deal?"

IC: Kohu (at the Barracks)

Acanon's had always been proud of that moment he got his prized mask, though he was pretty good at telling the story I'd give him that. I really should have known that interrupting him before he finished was pointless, still perhaps it was Acanons pride in his past that kept him from changing much since we last met, unlike myself. "Yeah I remember spotting their camp, I never did know why you made me hold off on killing them though"

IC: Votadox (Psyker) - to Barracks

Usually lying in sand and my own blood doesn't interest me. But today it's bearable. Why? Well, I don't want to get soppy; that really wouldn't do. But I think I may have just been complemented, so there's some hope in the world.

Now, it takes a good deal of seconds for me to stand back up. When I do, I creak. 'Aching' doesn't fully describe the discomfort I'm feeling. I limp towards the main gate, hearing the words said by my recent opponent. You know, I actually feel quite pleased. In a genuine, un-ironic way. That's surprising.

Since limping appears to be so enriching, I decide to carry on. Some time passes, and then Barracks are dragged towards me. I open the door. It creaks in unison with my frame. Beings are scattered inside, opening and closing their mouths, speaking and so on. I'm still 'aching', but going to the healer would require effort. So instead I lower myself onto a bed. I don't know whose bed it's supposed to be. Mine now.

There's a Ga-Skakdi next to me. Slightly mundane - where are all the grotesque mutants? I keep my eyes fixed on her. Good colour scheme.

IC: Galrax "Spirit" / Racing

Spirit stood still for a second, before taking off down the hall. She was little more than a blur as she shot past Erox, leaving a waking trail of wind behind her. She skidded to a halt at the end of the hall and waited patiently for the other Hunter to meet her there.

Wicked teeth shone through her smile as she watched the slower hunter dash down the hall...though she was still impressed by his speed.

IC: Sukiru (Sting) - Barracks

There was a certain unpleasant sensation running down her spines. Sting rolled over on the bed, trying to escape it to no avail. Finally she rolled the other way with a groan. "What is it, Gus... oh."

On the bed opposite her lay a... thing who seemed rather fixated with her. She didn't much care for it, not among all these cutthroats. Especially not while she was trying to nap. Sting rolled over again callously, muttering, "What are you looking at..."
