What storylines would you like Bionicle to try?

Recommended Posts

Hi, guys!:) We know that Bionicle has many storylines, and each has a unique theme from others, even though that Bionicle itself is mainly about bio-mechanical beings that look completely like robots and have powers and weapons, and they fight each other. It is also an action figure toy line made with Lego pieces. It goes like this:

2001 - Animals wearing a spirit-based villain called the Makuta's infected magical masks that mind-control them and a team of heroes with elemental powers, called the Toa Mata and who don't remember who they are when they arrived on the island, collecting masks. Takes place on a tropical island. Makuta also put a good-hearted spirit named Mata Nui, who leads people in the island, endless sleep. People in the island, who the Toa are defending, are trying to defend themselves along the way.

2002 - Swarms of chicken-like destroyers, called the Bohork and are the Toa's counterparts because most of them have elemental powers, and heroes collecting their mask-like and mind-controlling brains. There is also mechs and the swarms' queens. The Toa got magically upgraded by a substance into enhanced versions of themselves called the Toa Nuva.

Early 2003 - Each member of a type of Bohrok got mutated and new powers. They steal their heroes' elemental powers to unleashed the previous threat.

Late 2003 - The Makuta unleashed snake-and-slug-based monsters whose powers go against people's values. There is this light-vs.-shadow showdown business with a new hero joining the team and coming to face Makuta. There is also a citizen turning into that hero.

2004 - A prequel that takes place in an island city to learn about the island's people's past lives. A bunch of elders telling a story about themselves as the city's own heroes, called the Toa Metru, who fought a plant monster, corrupted police robots and bounty hunters called the Dark Hunters. They also show how they know a lot of things in the past storylines. It's like the prequel Star Wars trilogy when you look at it. They also go on a quest to protect a magic object called the Mask of Time, which has time-based powers, from the Makuta, who is responsible for their problems. Magic disks are involved.

2005 - The Toa Metru went to rescue their lost people from evil giant spiders led by two evil people. The evil-doers mutated them into monsters. The heroes had to find help from people and a cure while battling their foes. One of the villains, Roodaka, goes to free her imprisoned master, the Makuta, along the way. Later on, the leader of the Toa, Vakama, and Makuta working together to get the lost Mask of Time from the leader of the Dark Hunters. Lego play-sets happened. Magic spinners are involved.

2006 - Back to the present. A group of six evil thugs, who were once Dark Hunters and are also counterparts to the Toa because of their elemental powers, go to get a powerful magical mask called the Mask of Life, which can control life. Mata Nui is also dying, so two groups of Toa, the Toa Nuva and a new group with lightning-mixed elemental powers called the Toa Inika, who are six of the citizens they had been protecting, go to get the mask to save Mata Nui and the whole universe. Takes place on a new tropical island. Plus, the thugs also got a seventh member, which shows that the fact that a villain group got their own seventh member other than a group of heroes. This guy is actually a part of one of the six thugs' essence and went rogue from them. Playsets happened.

2007 - The Toa Inika, who turned into water-breathing versions of themselves called the Toa Mahri, and a group of evil sea-creature-based warlords, called the Barraki, fighting each over the Mask of Life. Takes place underwater and a city in there. There are beings being mutated by a substance, and the Mask kept using its powers to change some life. At the end, one of the Toa Mahri sacrificed himself to revive Mata Nui and save the universe. Playsets happened.

2008 - The Toa Nuva, who wear armor that can magically adapt, fighting against evil bat-based and bug-based villains called the Brotherhood of Makuta, who the Makuta leads. The Makuta's real name is revealed to be Makuta Teridax. Takes place in an underground cave with a sky and swamp. Citizens who forcefully turned evil by the bad guys, little guys combining with the teams to get more powerful by attaching their bodies on their bigger counterparts' backs, and flying vehicles are involved. At the end, the Toa reawakened Mata Nui, and then thought that they saved the day that way, but allowed Teridax to win and take over the world, which is revealed to inside the body of a 40-million-feet-tall robot. That robot is Mata Nui. Makuta's master plan, which happened the whole time, had been completed. He also banished Mata Nui's spirit and the Mask of Life from the body and sent them to outer space before Teridax started enslaving people.

2009 - It's a soft reboot, similar to Transformers: Age of Extincton Movie in 2014, as it takes place in a destroyed planet where most of it is a desert. Gladiators, from various element-based tribes, in the planet fighting each other in arenas to survive. However, some of them, called the Skrall, and their allies called the Bone Hunters united and started having a war with others to take over. Takes place in a destroyed planet. Mata Nui and the Mask went to the planet, and Mata Nui then convinced the gladiators to defeat their united foes. There are a lot of similarities between the planet and Mata Nui's world. There are land vehicles involved.

2010 - A final major battle where people from both worlds fight each other while Mata Nui is trying to fix the destroyed planet. However, Teridax threatened to take over the planet rather than supposingly helping him fix it, Mata Nui has to stop him giant-robot-battling-each-other style. There is also a golden suit of armor involved, as one of the Toa Nuva, Tahu, who turned back to his Mata self, had to get and use the armor to help win the fight. Along the way, heroes from both worlds had to work together to do this. At the end, Teridax is defeated and dead, good guys won, the planet is restored, and all major adventures are over, even though that there are still minor problems remaining, so peace between people from both worlds began.

2011 - More minor adventures happened that there are groups of heroes discovering some things, going to find the planet's former rulers, called the Great Beings, who created Mata Nui and his world, and fighting some new bad guys. There are a lot of unresolved things in the story, but our man, Greg Farshtey, is revealing some secrets that we were wondering about.

2015 - It's a hard reboot where everything story-wise has started all over again. It's called Bionicle G2. In other words, it's an alternative dimension. In this new story, things are more simple than the ones in G1. It's sort of like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012 and 2014 (Check the similarities in this link: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23229-bionicle-g2-and-the-amazing-spider-man-movies-are-alike/ ). The Toa Mata are reintroduced as Masters as they got new armor and weapons as well as new personality and are modernized by looks. Makuta Teridax is also reintroduced as Makuta, who looks almost completely different. Plus, Lewa's element is changed, and the team's personalities are sort of changed. We get a lot of new people, like the Protectors and Ekimu. In the 2015 storyline, the Toa arrive in the island of Okoto, kind of similar to how they arrived in the island of Mata Nui in G1, to find magical golden masks, which can increase their elemental powers, again and this time fight against evil skeleton-based creatures and awaken the eternally-sleeping Ekimu. The skeleton creatures want to steal masks and drain the Toa's Golden Masks' power to become stronger. Their leader, Kulta the Skull Grinder, wanted to destroy Ekimu's mask called the Mask of Creation in order to take over the world. The creatures are also sent by Makuta.

2016 - The Toa became Uniters as they find magical creatures called the Elemental Creatures, which have the same elemental powers as the Toa, and new magically golden masks. After that, they have to combine with them by having the creatures attach their bodies on the Toa's backs to enhance their elemental powers. An evil hunter named Umarak the Hunter and his robotic bear traps went to capture the creatures. Both sides also went to get Makuta's mask called the Mask of Control. Umarak was sent by Makuta to do this. After he got the mask, Makuta used its power to turn him into his stronger, bigger, monstrous, and Doomsday-from-Batman-v-Superman-Dawn-of-Justice-in-2016-esque minion called the Destroyer. Umarak turned his traps into monsters with elemental powers. Makuta had Umarak get the pieces of another of his masks called the Mask of Ultimate Power, so Umarak can open a portal that can free Makuta from another dimension called the Shadow Realm. Along the way, Ekimu turned into a Toa of Light and has his own Elemental Creature named Agil, who also has Light powers. The Toa and Ekimu worked together to try to stop Umarak, but he wasn't stopped. At the end, Umarak succeeded, but Makuta sacrificed him to open the portal. When he was trying to come out, the Toa stopped and used their elemental powers to stop him by re-imprisoning him. They then went back to where they came from: the stars.

In simpler terms: the storylines' themes are like this:

2001 - mind-controlled animals, heroes with elemental powers collecting magical masks, a tropic island

2002 - a swarm of chicken-like destroyers, collecting mask-like brains, mechs, heroes getting an upgrade

Early 2003 - the destroyers getting mutated with new powers and steal the heroes' powers

Late 2003 - light vs. shadow showdown, a new hero in town, snake-or-slug-like monsters with powers that go against good people's values

2004 - a prequel, a city, police robots, bounty hunters, a plant monster, magical disks

2005 - rescuing people, heroes getting mutated into monsters, giant spiders, a villain planning to free the main

2006 - going back to the present, thugs, controlling life, a new tropical island

2007 - underwater, warlords, mutation, an underwater city

2008 - sky, swamp, a cave, adapting armor, bat-and-bug based villain who relate to the main villain, people attaching themselves to others to get stronger, flying, flying vehicles, the main villain winning

2009 - a soft reboot, a destroyed planet, a desert, gladiators fighting in arenas, land vehicles, a ruler going to the planet and helping the good people there while also going on a quest to go back to his home and defeat the main villain

2010 - magic armor, devolving a main hero, repairing the planet, giant robots fighting, a battle between people from both worlds

2011 - new characters, groups of heroes going on minor quests to find for one of the worlds' creators and facing new threats.

2015 - hard reboot, skeletons, magical masks, stealing elemental powers

2016 - a hunter, magical masks, heroes combining with magical creatures to increase their elemental powers, monsters with elemental powers, opening a portal that will release the main villain.

These are the storylines that Bionicle had used in its history. I would like to talk about what new storylines would I like Bionicle to try if it returns. Here are some ideas that I would prefer:

1. A volcanic adventure that Toa would do

2. An underground adventure

3. Fighting against pirates

4. A knight-based adventure

5. An adventure that involves a genie

6. Protecting their home from aliens from another and completely different world

7. An adventure in space to fight these aliens and look for something there (it would be a sequel to #6)

8. A breakout theme where heroes go after escaped villains, similar to Hero Factory's Breakout wave

9. A jungle theme

10. Fighting against evil reptile-based villains, like snakes or crocodiles.

11. An adventure in a snowy place.

12. Time travel

13. Fighting against ghosts

14. Meeting with humans and our planet Earth

15. Fighting against evil versions of themselves, like completely robotic ones or shadow-based ones.

16. Using mechs similar to Hero Factory's Invasion From Below wave

17. Heroes fighting each other.

18. The Shadowed One being a main villain

19. Tuyet being a main villain because she wants to conquer the Matoran Universe

20. An adventure where it centers Toa or probably Glatorian that don't use the following elemental powers, Fire, Water, Air, Ice, Stone, or Earth. They would use different ones, like Lightning or Gravity.

21. An adventure were villains from past storylines return to get revenge on heroes for their defeats.

22. An adventure where there is technology involved. I would imagine characters using smartphones along the way. Lol. It would be similar to Ninjago's Nindroid wave and Nexo Knights

23. A war where heroes and villain battle each other as fusions of themselves, similar to Transformers' Combiner Wars. In there, fusions can be used often this time (perhaps more than how G1 did)

24. An adventure where a villain or more threaten to ruin time and space. They would do that by either time-traveling to past storylines to have the bad guys or travel through dimensions (G1, G2, and G3) and threaten them. Heroes from either the past storylines or the dimensions would have to work together to defeat this threat.

So, yeah. Those are themes that I would like Bionicle to try if it returns. What do you guys think? What themes would you prefer Bionicle to try, too? :)

I like Lego, Bionicle, and Hero Factory!:)

I would love a "land of giants" theme so we could have a year full of titans and a year with the Toa Hagah as the central team.

This-I approve.

That Bota Magna arc might have been nice.

Voicing your opinions with tact is the best way to keep a discussion from becoming an argument.
So far as I'm aware, it's pronounced like this: We're ee ah moo.

That... probably wouldn't happen. At least, not traditionally. If the Bionicle storyline had continued to Bota Magna, it would have most likely come with an ordinary, time-tested range of price points. There would be options for populating the story with giant creatures, but a wave with half of the sets or more being titan-sized just couldn't happen. More likely would be a regular number of titans (three or so) which represented common creatures (so that you could conceivably buy multiples to face off against the Toa), or possibly something akin to "Invasion from Below" where the Toa were represented as minifigure-sized figures and the wildlife was represented by regular-sized figures.

Since retconning things isn't likely, my dream storyline where, instead of switching to Bara Magna, the post-2008 storyline focuses on some random Toa team stranded on the southern isles with no clue as to why their universe has gone tits up trying, desperately, to get back to Metru Nui, will never happen. Being in some remote location, they wouldn't know all the details about Makuta's victory, or that Metru Nui is no longer safe, and they would only piece things together along the way. They would try and help the resistance wherever they went with the overarching goal of reaching MN driving the plot. Once there, they realize what's going on and free the Toa Nuva (who were captured in this version).

As for a potential storyline not needing any retcons, a similar situation would show a team of Toa stranded within the body (corpse?) of the GSR. They never evacuated with the others for whatever reason, and are now trapped in the decrepit and ruined MU. They wouldn't be the only ones trapped, with some now-feral Rahi and other unsavory fellows. The overall tale would be them trying to find out where everyone disappeared to.
