IC Stannis | Onu-Metru

"I ... I guess ... me being shot ... happened anyways... owww ..." Nale said.

"So it seems. Now run!" the old toa bellowed. "The matoran cannot hold on for much long."

Stannis got up from behind the safety of cover and his hands shone brilliantly with brown-tinged white light as he summoned his element to life again. Lasers and other attacks harmlessly struck around him as others desperately tried to shoot the famed toa down or stop his concentration, but the attacks either passed by harmlessly or passed right through his spectral image, likely lending further credibility that the old hero was as invulnerable as the legends made him seem. In a mere second a half-dome of stone had formed around he and Nale, perfectly sealing them from the violence outside. Attacks could be barely heard bouncing off of it from without, but it was only a matter of time before they managed to break past the shield.

"And that won't keep them out longer than needed, either," he said at last, backing his way into the elevator car and pressing the button for the airpad.

IC Alpinist | Ko-Metru

"No, I don't think so," the alpinist said. "Unless we were birds. Or beetles." The thought lingered a moment more before he stopped swelling on it and turned to the corpse again. "If he used that kanoka on himself we wouldn't be seeing his very matoran corpse here," he observed. "I think he used it on something else." But what?

The kanoka intrigued him. 4-1-5. The 15 was crossed out on the graffiti, as was the 88. He tried to remember what kanoka the other numbers would align with, assuming the towers sigil that emblazoned all Ko-Metru disks indicated the make of each disk listed. The 2-4 would be a freezing disk, the 3-4 a weaken disk, and the 5-4 an enlargement disk—all Ko-Metru makes. He checked his gear and pulled out a 4-2-4 he happened to have, but he only carried regeneration and freeze Kanoka as he didn't need any other kinds for his vocation.

"Hey, do you happen to have a 4-3-4 and/or 4-5-4 on you?" he said to the cartographer, "These numbers have to be other types of kanoka," he said, now looking around the room again for potential targets or any indication for why the late Ko-Metruvian chose those specific types—if, in fact he had.

IC: Nale Vella - Onu-Metru

She felt the cool air of Thom's ice blast, and slid further behind the chute. Stannis went to work, and she was somewhat amazed to watch attacks pass through the old Toa (she'd have to ask him about that later). Nale fired one last shot in the direction of Thom and Waveahk as she moved from cover and followed the Toa of Stone into the elevator. Once inside, the Fa-Toa rested her back against the inside wall, rifle still in hand.

"You know," she said, "when I called you a ghost story I didn't mean it literally, Stannis." She touched the burn on her face again and winced.

...

"Thank you for coming back for me."

IC, Atamai: Onu-Metru

Is... is that a Kralhi? was the first thought that popped into my head

Essentially the prototype to the Vahki, the Kralhi were supposed to be decommissioned years ago. Apparently this one didn’t get the memo.

I dove out of the way to avoid the energy bubble coming at me.

“Kralhi unit! I am an archivist! Why are you attacking me?!” I shouted at the robot. I knew machines weren’t known for being reasonable, but there wasn’t harm in trying to negotiate with the thing.

IC Stannis | Onu-Metru

"You would have died down there," Stannis said, watching the ground fall out of view and into darkness as the deep ravine consumed the contended street in dark shadows. The same elevator music played and Stannis bounced his foot along to its tune.

"Your sense of Duty almost killed you... but it also likely gave us the window of opportunity we needed to deal with the vahki. Thank you for fighting as long as you did, Toa Nale." He looked at the comparatively much more youthful toa and saw a mirror of himself when he was her age, young and brash and eager to fight evil and hatred whenever it lurked. Stannis was much more selective of his fights now, but that patience and dedication came at the cost of thousands of mistakes. In time Nale's scar would be just one of many others like it and serve as a reminder for a lesson hopefully learned, if not now then later.

IC: Nale Vella - Onu-Metru

A slight smile formed on her face. She put away her rifle and watched the number on the elevator go up, thankful for a moment to finally catch her breath.

"What was with the uh...stuff going through you thing?"

IC: Thom - Onu-Metru (Finding another way around)

"Toa." Thom snarled, as bitter as a rotten mango.

His uncovered eye tracked the movement of the Toa inside the elevator, but there was little he could do.

Agony shot through his leg as the Ko-Skakdi forced himself up on one foot, blood trickling down his leg steadily. He needed to get out of here, now.

His leg, however, seemed to have other plans.

Thom's look was quickly turning from bitterness to desperation. The Skakdi glanced to Waveahk, but he could already guess his fellow Hunter would not help him. He, for once, was now the liability.

Purple and black pain rocked through the assassin's mind as he began to futilely limp...somewhere. Anywhere, as he began to feel more and more lightheaded.

This sucks.

IC: TrikiGa-Metru

"Excellent!" Triki says, jumping over the broken grate to venture further into the maze of underground pipes.  It was evident that he was clearly not concerned about the destruction of public property, and perhaps even used to it.  Ignoring the bickering of the others behind him (and the fact that a rather strong Ga-Matoran had just broken the lock with her bare hands) he continued on, eagerly looking around for something interesting to investigate.

IC: Arkius - Onu-Metru

There was a moment as the Dark Hunter shot into the distance that Arkius felt relief. This lasted for a brief moment before he looked down at his knee and saw it buckled inward. That's when the shock set in, then the pain, and right in that moment, Arkius realised he still had kinetic potential concentrated between his foot and his knee, energy trapped now behind an injury with nowhere to go... but inside and out. A second crack, resounding and multiplied, could be heard as all of that potential turned into force, energy, trapped in his leg behind a shattered kneecap and a knee bending the wrong way. His leg and foot shattered, his flesh bruised and tore up, and for a second, Arkius couldn't feel anything as his momentum carried him face-first to the ground.

A moment later was when the screaming started. His hands trembling, Arkius weakly cradled his mangled leg, a pained yelp following his more extreme reaction a moment earlier. He took a deep breath. He couldn't stop here. Had to keep going. Had to fight through the pain.

Focusing his element back to him, he could feel as the earth began to gather around his leg, wincing as it moved over fresh wounds, but grit his teeth for he knew an even worse pain was yet to come, a necessary pain. The earth solidified into a cast around his lower leg, keeping it together best as it could. Arkius huffed, and counted down from three... two... one...

Another scream as he forced his knee to bend the right way again, fighting through tears now to keep his concentration on the earthen cast, building it up over the knee to finally wrap the whole leg in solid earth. Part of his concentration would need to stay on the cast for it to be maintained. With a grunt, Arkius took out his axe, and used it as support to haul himself up to his feet... or, well, his foot. Using the axe like a crutch, Arkius turned around-

-Just in time to see the Airship dive into the platform and collapse the whole thing, aside from the elevators and their catwalk, though shaking them enough to almost send Arkius tumbling down again.

IC Stannis | Onu-Metru

"Surely you've heard the stories," Stannis said and chuckled. Nale could see his eyes mischievously narrow under the hook of his grey cloak. He sounded like a kindhearted grandfather telling the same joke to a new crop of kids. "I'm a wizard.

The elevator chimed as it reached the docking platform, but of course there was no door, just wind gusting into the carriage. Things looked even worse than they did when Stannis left mere moments earlier, and he surveyed the damage with a mixture of surprise and curiosity—the platform was a mangled mess, earth and debris was scattered this way and that from a battle, and the Taku, presumably still piloted by the former Ghost, tore through the rest of the dock like a wrecking ball free of its tether. "Hmm, the matoran must have managed to release the moorage," me muttered to himself.

But his placid feelings shifted quickly to grave concern when he noticed Arkius, injured and struggling to maintain his footing while Knichou took his frustrations out on the dock. His hand burst in a glow of elemental energy again as he reached out and conjured literal hand made of stone that quickly grasped his brother and hoisted him away from the edge.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Ga-Metru | Great Temple

As the party began to split, Triki knew his advance into the sewers could only lead to adventure. Good or bad, he couldn't say, but the plucky Le-Matoran knew there'd be a tale to come of today.

His feet splashed on a thin coating of run off water from whenever rain fell on the Great Temple Roof. Small growths of algae spotted the floor, making it important to be careful while walking. On the walls of the access tunnels were the sewer pipes, contained orderly with neat matoran writing every few feet stamped on their surface to make sure no one mistakenly cut into the wrong pipe. About ten feet in there was a fork in the tunnel: Triki could go left or right. The sunlight didn't make it past the fork. Whichever way he went would be in darkness.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Onu-Metru | Vahki

While Arkius and Stannis vanquished the aggressive rorzakh enforcer units on the docks, the rorzakh below continued their hunt. Known as the most persistent of the six vahki, rorzakh viciously upheld their 97% capture quotas. Today the monthly quota lagged, but the clockwork hive mind collective didn't understand despair. If anything, the reduced success led to even further and more dogged persistence.

No surprise then when the rorzakh found Thom bleeding out by a protodermis elevator chute further down the street from where they briefly faltered in the smoke. Waveahk's visible weapons implied involvement, adding him to the pool of individuals to be detained. Three squads -- eighteen units -- descended on the injured Dark Hunter. they could run, or they could submit to The Law.

IC: Nale Vella - Onu-Metru

"I'm a wizard."

She smirked at this and decided that was explanation enough from the old man. They reached the dock, a mess of rock and metal scattered about, and saw the airship she presumed was Knichou's currently tearing the platform itself apart. Stannis had spotted another Toa, one she didn't recognize but apparently an ally to the Toa of Stone, and gone to aid him. From the looks of it, they now had two injured Toa in their party, although Nale's paled in comparison to whatever had happened to this Toa of Earth.

She waved to the airship, trying to get Knichou's attention so they could board. It seemed they were finally getting out of here.

OOC: Apologies for the holdup in sorting this out. Based in part due to misunderstandings regarding how the kinetic energy imparted by Arkius' mask works, and my own failure to account for pesky things like velocity and whiplash, this post has now been redone. Figured it was best to just post it on a new page rather than editing it into the previous post.

IC: Vyarik - Onu-metr- oh no

The Dark Hunter felt his feet make impact, relished in the satisfying sensation of his opponent's limb cracking and crumpling beneath his assault.

But then he felt something else. Something odd. Something wrong.

Kinetic energy flooded his form, turning what should have been a fairly moderate push backwards into a physics-defying flight. Vyarik was flung backwards, flying past fallen Vahki and broken rubble before soaring off the side of the platform, limbs flailing fruitlessly for a means to slow himself.

He grew as he flew, returning to his full size to create more wind resistance. He swung one of his blades down, repelling lightly off the ground to spin himself in midair, so that he could then plunge the point of his deactivated right-hand blade into the ground, while continuing to repel against the ground with the activated left. The blades skidded and skipped as they scraped along the ground, but he eventually ploughed into the ground as his unnatural momentum was dispersed. He tumbled, rolled, and bounced, the armour of his back and shoulder being scratched asunder as he finally collided with the base of a building.

He rose with a groan, his form aflame with aches and scrapes, his lips curling into a grimace as he saw the state of the blade in his right hand - chipped and scratched, part of the tip snapped off completely. Just as a cracked Kanohi was prone to malfunction, the Kanoka Blade's power wouldn't work now, he knew. It was going to take a fair amount of a time with a Kiril to restore it to a usable state.

Returning the blade to its sheath on his back, he stormed back towards the platform, snatching up the snapped-off shard of his blade from the ground and stuffing it in a belt pouch. He reached the edge of the platform and started to ascend, all too eager to finish off the meddling Toa of Earth... then he froze, upon discovering that his one Toa had become three.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Onu-Metru and ??? | Vahki Response

It took almost no time for the rorzakh to collect their criminal prey. While two maintained physical control of Thom, the rest of the rorzakh busied themselves with swarming after Waveahk. When the icy Dark Hunter awoke, he was in a very different place. And sideways.

Maybe it was a dream?

Strangely, no, he felt very awake, but he didn't know how long he'd been out. His leg no longer hurt, somehow healed, but he felt tired and disconnected from his element. He was in a cell somewhere lying down on a slab someone pretended could be a bed. The lightstones in the hallway for light were red, making it hard to see beyond the reach of his hands.

"You're awake," said a gravely voice from across the hall in the cell opposite Thom's. A small being shuffled close to their bars. They were red in color, with sprinklings of yellow and gold. Maybe a matoran? Whether or not the light made them red or if it was their natural armor Thom couldn't tell. "Finally."

Thom got the feeling he wasn't in Onu-Metru anymore.

IC: Arkius - Onu-Metru

A moment of surprise, followed by panic, before he realised who had grabbed him. "Stannis!" He called out, the relief audible in his voice.

IC: Okuo - Inter-Metru Transit

"Come on, come on, where are you?" Okuo desperately muttered to himself as he looked up any information he could on Vhisola's current location, looking for blog posts, chatter, security feeds, anything, looking away every once in a while to make sure he wasn't headed for a building or something. Working on his iStone while mid-flight, as dangerous and reckless as that could be, was a necessary skill Okuo had developed over his years on the run, which now came in handy as he desperately tried to pin-point the blogger's whereabouts.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Ga-Metru

"Informant" as he was called by his co-workers found Vhisola's apartment within a few hours of the hit being sent. It was a single room dwelling on the fifth floor of a floating tower, with a view of one of the lecture hall buildings for Ga-Metru's extensive campus. While not the most upscale renting location, it couldn't be cheap. Neither could several lavish pieces of furniture. It seemed the most used location, however, was her desk with a small telescope next to it by the window. Books, slates, and half finished assignments covered the floor around the desk, the only item on it besides Vhisola's computer station being a photo of her and a Ga-matoran scholar wearing a kanohi rau. Unfortunately, Vhisola was out.

Okuo nearly crashed into a protodermis chute when he found a clue to Vhisola's location. She'd posted a photo five minutes ago to one of her many blogs, curated by activity, of a thick piece of toast with a green spread. It was a well composed photo, with perfect lighting and just enough of the surrounding table settings to feel natural. The words "student teacher mentoring brunch" were underneath. As was a picture of the menu, its obscene prices, and more importantly the address of the cafe.

Happy chat.

OOC: Theme music for this post

IC Stannis | Onu-Metru

As soon as Vyarik stepped onto the same level as the remains of the platform he froze—

Stannis already knew he was there. He stood there on the terminal, his great cloak billowing in another hefty breeze, and his damnably grey eyes fiercely drank Vyarik in. The old toa hero said nothing, did nothing, but simply stood thusly, staring at the single Dark Hunter. Nale and Arkius were on either side of him like animated silhouettes as one beckoned for the airship to come closer and the other tended to his wounds, but their presence only seemed to elevate the unassailable sagacity of the old toa hero as he impassively judged the Hunter from afar.

The message was clear, just as it had been before: Don’t even think about it.

IC: Vyarik - Onu-Metru.

He laughed, realising the absurdity of the ordeal he'd just endured. He'd assumed Stannis had been on the airship, protecting the Matoran. His presence here, with the other Toa, could only mean that he had gone down in the elevator. That was twice now that he'd missed the opportunity to take the bounty on this Toa's head.

"I didn't need to deliver your message!" He bellowed, "It turns out my masters already know you're here. Every Dark Hunter in the city has your name."

"If you genuinely believe your Great Spirit has any power, then you're as deluded as you are arrogant," he snarled, "I spent decades of my life in darkness and blood, surrounded by people who prayed every night for your spirit to save them. He never did."

He cautiously began to climb the side of the platform, preferring to be on level ground with the Toa trio, "He didn't save Nuparu, and he won't save Kinchou. He won't save you, when the times comes."

IC: Nale Vella - Onu-Metru

"So you did have something to do with what happened to Nuparu," she said, turning away from the airship. A hand reached for her rifle, and hovered over the grip as she debated drawing it. A glance to Stannis, who simply stood firm, and her hand dropped back to her side.

Nale decided to just glare at Vyarik, her arms crossed. She really wasn't in the mood to fight any more today.

IC: Thom - ??? (Todd, you hack)

The disgraced assassin shifted onto his stomach, groaning.

The absence of great pain emitting from his leg was a surprise but a very welcome one, though it didn't stop the great disorientation and dismay that came with waking up in a prison. A Vahki prison, no less.

It wasn't the first time this had happened, by all means, though. And it's not gonna be the last.

"Yeah, just about. 'most wish ah wasn't, though." He replied, squinting, his open eye trying to activate X-Ray vision to try and get a look at the figure's shape.

Arkius' heart sank as he heard the familiar voice, and turned around to see the Dark Hunter, already returned, as if his mangled leg had been for nothing. And then his mind started racing. He recalled that earlier, he'd noticed something, a form moving for the ship, but at the time had ignored it due to having to fix his mangled leg. A form moving for the ship... a second Dark Hunter? Panic set into Arkius' features as this all dawned on him.

"We need to get on the airship! Now!"

"I didn't kill him, if that's what you're asking. My compatriot was the one who took the killshot," he raised his free hand to point at the wound on Nale's face, "I'm guessing he's the one who gave you that little memento."

His smile soured as Arkius' spoke up, spoiling the moment. "I told you to walk away while you could."

"That's not gonna work," the small being said with a chuckle as Thom's eye glowed. He was mostly right. Thom couldn't see past his cell, but his powers of x-ray vision saw through the bed just fine. A small bedpan, smooth edged, and a bottle of what could only be water were tucked underneath.

After another moment the voice called back out, "what's your name?"

IC: Thom - ??? (ShawSkak Redemption)

This was new. It made sense, though. Plenty of his stronger buddies would likely smash right through these bars were they in the same position he was in, so limiting people's powers was probably a no brainer.

Thom, on the other hand, wasn't really losing much with the inhibitor.

"Patchy." The Skakdi responded, almost on instinct.

IC: Waveahk (Onu-Metru, Protodermis Canals)

Waveahk fled back to the Canals, leaping into them and swimming away as fast as conceivably possible, back to the safehouse.

IC: Ostrox (Silver Sea, The Ripple)

Ostrox fell on the floor, screaming and writhing under the effects of the Rhotuka. Since he obviously wasn't concentrating anymore, the illusion duplicate of him vanished as quickly as it appeared.

IC: Oreius | Beach Assault

The ground erupted, sending Oreius flying into the air for the second time in less than ten seconds. At this rate, he was going to be turned to scrap and mush on the beach long before he got within fighting range. He could throw blasts all day, but he was hopelessly outgunned at this distance. He had to close the gap.

He'd tried this trick already with some success—here was hoping the second attempt would be a little more graceful. As he fell back towards the ground, he threw out both hands and produced twin thermal blasts that sent him rocketing upwards and sideways in a gentle arc. As he reached the top of his flight path, his stomach rising in a brief moment of weightlessness, he pointed one hand towards the ground and the other towards the ocean and fired again, blasting himself heedlessly through the air in the direction of the treeline.

"I have spent millennia in the service of the same god you deny," Stannis replied in a chilly, even tone. "And what I have seen is beautiful. Every day I am reminded of Mata Nui's power in all things... even in you, Dark Hunter. You serve the Virtues as well, though you don't care to think of them the same way and that's okay. Nuparu did as well, and he died because his Destiny was ended. All things happen when they are meant to happen and all things will happen eventually, even my death, but until that day comes it is my duty to fight.

"Do not test me further, Hunter," he chided.

IC: Vhisola | Ga-Metru

She leaned back in her chair and tried to ignore the chatter around her as Nokama got up for a moment to do, well, something. Her iStone barely fit propped up between her lap and the table. Vhisola didn't usually feel happy, but today turned out alright for the ga-matoran. What could be a better way to turn a day around than brunch with her professor? She remembered each word of their conversation, a new core memory of happiness she'd remember when depression set in and the night got inevitably long.

Something red caught her eye. It, no he, stepped through the door of the cafe with a nervous sort of look about him. Vhisola couldn't help but stare and wonder what a Ta-matoran could possibly be doing in a Ga-metru brunch cafe. He didn't seem the type to go to a cafe for one. He had dust covering his armor, carried a large disc launcher on his bag, and looked more like a software geek in need of a gaming cafe and a cup of energy juice than toast and mimosas.

"Everything alright," Nokama asked as she slid back into her chair.

"Huh? Yes, of course Professor," Vhisola said, her heading whipping around to face her mentor. She didn't look away fast enough though and accidentally made eye contact with the stranger. Did he notice? Maybe he thought she was looking past him at the painting on the entry way wall? Yes, that had to be it. Like when someone smiles and waves for the person behind you. "You were saying before you left that you'd been thinking about Turaga Dume's recent speech and how that applied to your research on antiquities?"

Happy chat.

IC: Okuo - Ga-Metru Café

There she was, speaking to some professor about Duma's speech, and something about antiquities... fascinating another time, perhaps, but right now he couldn't stick around to hear this out. "Apologies for the interruption." He said, approaching the table and taking a seat uninvited. "Vhisola, I believe? Big fan of your work. Afraid I have some bad news though. Very bad. I have reason to believe you're being targeted by a group of assassins. Now, before you spout disbelief, let me assure you I find this situation equally ridiculous. But here, look at this." Okuo took out his iStone to show Vhisola the kill order. "I managed to crack this network earlier, saw this. I believe this network may belong to a dangerous organisation, perhaps the Dark Hunters, perhaps League assassins, I can't be sure, but what I am sure of is that you are in grave danger."

Okay. Weird. Not the first time, but weird way to ruin her day. He said he was a fan of her work, so her blog. Great. Another one.

"I'm sorry, have we met before?" Vhisola asked candidly, sitting up straighter in her seat. She tried to look friendly, but honestly this pushed her patience. This ta-matoran certainly went the extra mile to build an outlandish story.

"No, sorry, we haven't..." Okuo sighed, took a deep breath, and looked at Vhisola again. "Alright, let me take a step back here, this is obviously a lot to take in, and I apologise for that. My name is Okuo. You may have heard of me as 'The Invisible Matoran'... or 'The Digital Spectre'... Either one's been passed around enough I suppose. Point is I'm here to prevent what happened to Nuparu from happening to you too... or at least try to... but first I need to convince you that this whole scenario isn't just some sick joke." There was a mix of urgency, sincerity, and fear on Okuo's face as he relayed this all to her.

"Um, okay," Vhisola said after a moment. Her head leaned to one side, unconvinced but obviously trying to figure out what happened to Okuo to make him do this. I didn't know you, until now and I'm in the middle of something. If you really think something serious is happening, why don't you tell the vahki. But you coming here, saying that I'm on some assassin's hit list, isn't anything new. News flash: I've had my address taken from me, I've been stalked, I've been through plenty just because people think I don't have a life. You showing up and publicly making a scene of my morning doesn't make me want to believe you. If anything, you're even more like everyone else who's done this before with your little code names and your mocked up photos. I'm not interested."

"I think maybe you should go," Nokama said after a moment's hesitation. She watched the two matoran staring at each other, one with a sense of urgency and the other with a decidedly done expression on her face. Obviously Okuo wasn't one of her students or she'd remember, she was good with names after all, and Vhisola certainly didn't know this man. She got the eye of a waiter, who started to make her way over.

Happy chat.

IC: Kovac Krossfari - Ga-Metru ("And now my watch begins.")

Inside a long since cleared out Dark Hunter safehouse, a man sat. On top of a messy yet disused bed, he perched.

He was Kovac.

On top of the desk in front of the bed, an edgeless blade laid. Memories laid along with it, a testament to his growth. A symbol, if he were to grind it down to bare basics.

It was time, yet again. He stretched his neck and arms, breathing in and out in timed intervals. The time would never stop coming, but he'd never stop being ready for it.

After a few moments of this, the Toa of Lightning slowly pushed himself upwards, standing tall and closing his eyes, breathing again in practised sequences. A silent prayer to Mata-Nui slid under it, behind the preparation. Like always.

Then, he was awake.

The Toa swiftly reached for his Toa tool, strapping the sheathed blade to his back so that it remained completely firm.

He was Kovac Krossfari. Protector of the weak, hunter for the truth. And his watch had begun.

OOC: And here we go.
