IC: Cravious - Skakdi of Lightning, Mind Reading and Quick Healing

Location - Irnakk’s Tooth, Lava flow away from the entrance

With - Whira

Cravious’ exhaustion was quickly forgotten as Whira accepted the mask and a power grew inside of him. His Mind Reading Kraata was hard to tell the enhanced effects of, but his Quick Healing provided him something he had waited a long time for. Cravious threw off his protective gear and grabbed a flathead screwdriver, jamming it into his ankle joint. He did a few quick turns, a couple of complicated twists of the foot itself, and his foot popped off, revealing the newly regrown organic protodermis muscle that had been held back by the prosthetic.

Digging through his duffel bag, Cravious produced his old, natural foot. He laughed harshly and slid it on, the muscle slipping inside to once again work the pistons, gyros, and clockwork pieces. He popped it into place and screwed it in with a clicking noise that indicated the bolt was tight enough.

He jumped to his feet, testing out his returned foot. That felt so much better.

Cravious turned to Whira, still smiling as she put the Kraahkan on her face, her swirling purple optics mesmerizingly glowing from behind the stunning form of the Kanohi. She spoke, “Unfortunately, I currently am unable to access the mask's powers. But no matter. We can move on to our next objective: Desecrate a Kaita."

A Kaita?” Cravious stated more than asked. Where in Irnakk’s realm were they going to find a Kaita? “You’ll need to figure out how to do that, I’m certainly not forming one, and we just lost a Skakdi that would be willing to form one. All we have now is Clash, and he can’t make one on his own.” Cravious rested his hands on his hips. He had been the guiding factor in Whira’s ascension of power, but he wasn’t sure if he could help her here. “We should think about our options. I’ll get back to you.

Getting back in Debt Collector, Cravious began cleaning up his forging equipment, reinstalling it in its proper place in the Cube.

IC: Crucia - Skakdi of Water and Cyclone

Location - Eastern Sea

With - Vex

As her boat limped to their destination, Crucia sat before her friends. They had always been there for her since the Rig was destroyed and before. And she needed them now more than ever. The boat started to tilt as it took on water, but Crucia knew from experience that she still had a couple minutes before she needed to use her element to empty it again.

She looked to Vex and then to her other friend and spoke hesitantly, “I can’t go on living like this. I need to get stronger. We need to get stronger. I saw the way those Tarakava fought. Together, they had me beat. We need to stand together, to fight together.

Crucia gulped. She couldn’t believe she was saying this, “Something needs to change or we’ll die anyway. I plan on standing up to Silver. Together, we might just be able to persuade her to fix our ship and give us better pay. What do you guys think? Are you with me?

IC: Arkius - Spiriah's Labyrinth

Pain. It was an old friend of Arkius. It told him of his limits, complained when he pushed past them, and screamed at him when inevitably he broke in some way. But every time he came back stronger, and his tolerance for suffering grew greater. The pain he felt now, lingering at the edges of the dead nerve endings that had been burnt away, was great indeed, but it wasn’t the worst pain he had suffered. He’d been through worse, and he’d pulled through, even if only barely. His thoughts, clearer as he ever drew further from Spiriah’s mind numbing influence, turned to his situation, pushing the pain to the back of his mind. Up. Go up. He held onto that mantra as it remained at the center of his psyche, a singular tether holding him to the mark despite his body screaming for the bliss of unconsciousness or oblivion.

He knew he couldn’t keep this up forever, and he wasn’t certain how long it would be until he reached the surface. Eventually certain branches would exceed his limits, and his admittedly impressive reserves of elemental energy would grow thin, and then depleted. But he didn’t have to keep this up forever. He hadn't intended to. Even now, he could feel his pursuers traveling down an errant branch. Not that it mattered if they’d chosen the correct one. He exerted his influence once more.

Suddenly, the branches shattered, breaking apart into a multitude of large pieces, some merely small fragments of packed earth, but too many to count were the pieces large enough to fit the large Toa inside them. The pieces each grew to a sharp point upwards, before the collective began to ascend, the earth bending around them as they tore up through it like shotgun pellets tearing through flesh.

IC: Knichou, Kini-Nui Airspace, The Taku

"Don't worry," Knichou said in an attempt to ease the tension, looking back at Nale with a grin. "Our walking compass will always be my favorite."

In some ways, there was more truth to that joke than the Nynran initially realized - the Toa Rode always had a way of keeping him on track, moving forwards in the right direction. If her inner compass ever diverged from where he was going, Knichou would know he had done something terribly wrong.

The commander listened carefully to Rose's words and immediately looked Berys in the eye and pointed upwards. The le-matoran was listening just as closely and the thought of them not being above the best was frightening. The Taku began to rise until it was halfway in the clouds, where visibility was even lower. At least they had a functional thermal sensor that could feel what their optics couldn't see. Rose, being in a turret mounted on the underside of the ship, was in the only part of the Taku that fully poked out from underneath the thick dark clouds.

"Keep us posted, and everyone else keep looking," the commander broadcasted over the intercom, before switching to radio to give Vulimai a situation report.

"Vulimai, this is Taku actual, the beast is definitely here, but we're having trouble acquiring it visually in this storm. We'll keep watching, but what's the situation in the village, over?"

IC [Zataka - Irnakk’s Tooth, w. Yumiwak & Co.]

Zataka watched the battle unfold with a certain amount of unease. She wasn’t worried that Yumiwak might be in over her head - no, the Skakdi princess knew exactly what she was doing. But this was usually the point where fate or destiny or whatever you like to call liked to pull it’s dirty tricks, turning the odds around and letting one snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Marrow was injured, but still called the challenge. And he and Yumi both still had their respective entourages. And there was nothing from stopping either side from pulling a fast on except some dusty Skakdi ritual rules. They seemed paramount, something no Skakdi living here would dare disrespect. Then again Toa had once not been supposed to kill, so...yeah. Good luck with that. If the Mesi were desperate enough, there was no telling what they would do.

I really hope whatever dark presence - Irnakk if heard that right -  makes itself known down here is more scary than whatever drive they’ve got left to win.

The fight moved into melee range. The titan took an instinctive step forward as Marrow brought his cudgel up, she was ready to disintegrate him on the spot, but could feel a tug at her side from one of the Skakdi - she didn’t dare turn her eyes to check which - which sent a clear enough message: Don’t interfere.

And then, just seconds later, it was all over. Yumiwak had won, Marrow had fallen and all that remained was the other Mesi’s decision whether or not to bend the knee. They chose not to. Zataka felt no joy when she and the princess’s crew put them down. She’d offered them a chance to walk away...These were all wasted lives. Potentially turning into a monster afterwards to keep on fighting - if that ritual even worked - didn’t change that.

So she tried to be merciful and quick. She put the blade to two of them, the duo furiously trying to summon their element once more. They faced death as a pair and she ran them through as a pair - before sending them into the abyss as well, with the Skakdi’s assistance.

The titan took a deep breath, slowing her pulse back down. The path was finally clear, Yumiwak was free to do what she’d set out to do. As soon as that was done, Zataka could be on her way, find the refugees again and then figure out her way back home.

Zataka glanced into the fiery abyss they’d driven the unfortunate Mesi into. So far, nothing seemed to happen. Her eyes turned back to the Skakdi princess, waiting to see what she’d do next...

OOC: Kaita post written between @Onaku and I.

IC: Whakamahu, Kaita of Remedy (Triage) - Ko-Pou Outpost

Seeing that the afflicted Matoran had calmed down, the Kaita was pleased at first. But they could tell their calm was born not from acceptance of their help, but from realising the futility of fighting back. The Kaita frowned, but did not let this deter them. Though bending the afflicted to their will had not been their intent, and was regrettable, they could now begin the healing process proper--attempt to cure the seemingly incurable, as their component Toa had sworn to.

What ailment could stand against the strength of a Kaita, after all?

"Remember, we are here to help," they said, trying to reassure the Matoran once more.

Whakamahu then raised their hands up, wreathed in a soft glow that gradually emanated out from them to spread out over the room and take in the afflicted Matoran, the radiance imbued with the Kaita’s mending touch. This, however, was merely the first step in the cure, as in tandem the Kaita reached out to the Matoran with psionics, delving into the minds of the afflicted to try and begin unraveling the ocean of instinct they were trapped in, and alleviate the beastly behavior they struggled to contain, hopefully to bring them back to their former selves, even just mentally if nothing else. The Kaita’s mental grasp was extended yet, reaching out to grab onto the afflicted within their addled mindscape--urging them to fight against the corruption they had been inflicted.

The Kaita also resorted to their Kanohi power(s), tapping into the powers of Healing and Mutation in tandem. Even if the latter had not worked on these Matoran before, perhaps now as the healing radiance worked to neutralize the influence of the mutagenic substance that prevented its use, in addition to the Hauora to stabilise and nurture, it would now help in undoing the mutations and reversing the condition ailing their patients..

So did the Kaita begin their treatment. They would heal body and mind, as much as possible, even if a full recovery could not be ensured. Still, Whakamahu was hopeful, like the Toa that formed them had been. Hope was vital.

The Kaita of Remedy was living up to their name as they used almost everything at their disposal on the Matoran.

This had to work.

IC: Korio Karasha - Irnakk's Tooth

Korio let out a clap when it was all done with, rushing to the edge of the volcanic maw to watch with glee as the Mesi fell. Yumi had shown her strength, her skill in combat. Why she was leading the crew, and why Korio respected her. However, as he began to put things together in his head, his grin faded into confusion. Marrow's last words, and the talk of sacrifice. The Vo-Skakdi looked over at Yumiwak.

"Uh, Miss Yumi...what did we just do, exactly?"

@EmperorWhenua@pokemonlover360@Vezok's Friend

IC: Jutori - Kini-Koro Hospital

He took Katrin's hand, groaning as he got to his feet. "My hammer, where...?"

Jutori looked around the room, his optics settling on the Toa tool lying against the wall across from his bed. He turned back to the Toa of Fire. "Katrin, could you retrieve it for me?"

IC: Ostrox (Kini-Koro, The Ambling Alp, Exterior) - What Did He Say?

"Hmm?" Ostrox looked around, deliberately glancing everywhere except where Leklo was. "Could have sworn I heard something. It sounded like an objection, but without any further explanation or context from it, I can’t be certain..."

@EmperorWhenua@Void Emissary

IC: Ulkarr and Gnabol (Kini-Koro) - Dark Clouds

Ulkarr emerged from the portal, Komisti presumably not far behind him. His attention was drawn to a yellow lizard-thing atop a Manas.

"You, sir. Are you aware that your settlement is in danger of being destroyed by a nearby Tahtorak?"

"...What?" That seemed to have caught him off-guard.

@Harvali

IC: Enra, Reckless, Lawful, Obedient, Impressionable and Wayward (Tobduk-Koro) Last One There's a Rusty Pipe

"I will investigate the validity of these statements-"

"No you won’t."

"I will!"

"Incorrect-" Reckless and Wayward began racing each other in quadrupedal mode towards the Ruins. Obedient shook his head in dismay.

"I will go through the portal to Kini-Koro to observe, as you have instructed Akiri." Lawful did a little salute, and began following his brothers, though for different reasons.

"Er, right. Radio tower. Gotcha... which way is that again?"

"That way." Impressionable pointed in its direction.

"Thanks." Enra began trudging towards the tower, presumably followed by Akiri and the remaining Vahki.

IC Kanohi - Tobduk-Koro

Kanohi rubbed his head again, the Vahki could be quite overwhelming. Still, they were great allies, they were people, and it was not their fault he struggled. His inability to handle stress was not because of them, it was his own flaws.

For now though, he had a duty. Kanohi followed after Enra, his staff thumping the ground as he walked. As he did he could see Collector, sorry, Komisti had already alerted the guards of Tobduk-Koro, some were gathering Regeneration Disks, likely to help mend Kini-Koro once the flood had ended. Others were building crude shelters for refugees. Hopefully they were more prepared, this time.

IC Kardaka - Ko-Pou

The Turaga of Stone winced at the Matoran suspended in the air. They looked so … she wanted to embrace them, hold them tight. But she knew too well that you cannot approach a beast that way, it would be overstimulating and upsetting, and she did not want to do that to a person. Especially a sick one.

Clearing her throat, Kardaka asked, “K-Kaita, is there anything I can do to help them?” It was clear how weak she was, how little she could help.

Kardaka … she briefly wondered if she should have accepted a Kraata over her millennia here, she certainly had encountered Aspects before. But almost immediately she shook her head. She could not gain power from the death of another, that was the kind of cruelty that killed this island, and she rejected it. And so many Aspects she had met had been the embodiment of the selfishness that doomed this land, she could not serve them.

But she did serve, she had to. And she vaguely recalled that once, there were Aspects who could make Kraata from Rahi heartlights, still horrid, but at least every part of the Rahi could then be used. If she could find a noble Aspect — no! She did not deserve that power.

Even so, she was helpless to help these Matoran. To help anyone in this weak body of hers. And she had to serve the living, help make up for her evils. And a noble Aspect - she should serve someone who could keep her worse instincts in check. A Toa, well, a Turaga should not be allowed unchecked power.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Mi-Kiri

It was a period of prolonged study later that Sorilax determined, through sheer improbable confusion, that he’d literally and figuratively hit a dead end. The walls had no secret compartments, the ceiling held up the floor above, and the matoran -- all six of them -- presented nothing of significance beyond the lives they once lived. Even the hearthstone, cold and dusty, seemed fully spent.

There was nothing here. Then it hit him, a discovery of simple deduction: there was no water here.

OOC: @Kal the Guardian

IC: Kas | Mi-Kiri

There was a popping sound in the air, the grunt of protest, and suddenly Mahrika saw Kas standing ankle deep in the pool of water she’d walked out of moments before. Ollem slipped out of Kas’ arms faster than a lava eel in the volcanic rivers of the Ash Barrens.

“Right,” said Kas, “Seems we’re here then.”

The toa of fire took a deep breath in, letting a little flame out of his mouth with his exhalation. “Now to find the right room. Shouldn’t be hard, there’s only so many buildings still standing. Oh, look, my apartment is still here.”

He gestured towards the tallest nearby building, a building covered in overgrown vines. The glass on the upper floors -- once an undoubtedly gorgeous floor to ceiling window with a 360 view of the city below -- was shattered and covered in graffiti.

“What do you think friends, should we take a quick look at home? Maybe there’s still something good in the fridge,” Kas joked wryly.

IC: Sorilax Life Seeker - Aspect of Light and Silence

Location - Aqua Sphere, Giant Tower, bottom room

There was a lack of details to glean from this room. A lack of insects, amphibians, or Rahi. There were not even any plants or puddles or…

It came to him like when he had figured out by deduction the properties of Ghekula saliva. There was no water here. He was in the center of a waterlogged city that was absolutely sopping wet to the touch and yet there was no water here.

But why?

Perhaps he should find out. Sorilax searched his memories. There wasn’t a large Rahi in between himself and the nearest puddle. Dismissing the hardlight door, Sorilax silently stepped through and out into the hallway. He returned shortly thereafter with a hardlight box in tow, water sloshing inside.

He replaced the hardlight doorway blocker and maneuvered his box over the empty heatstone. Then he dismissed the hardlight box, letting the collected water fall and splash over the ground and bodies of the Matoran.

Sorilax held out the faintest hope that this water might rejuvenate them, regardless of the floating drowned he had seen outside.

IC: Sorilax Life Seeker - Aspect of Light and Silence

Location - Aqua Sphere, Giant Tower, bottom room

Sorilax observed as the water drenched the heatstone and further splashed on the gathered Matoran bodies. As only made logical sense, they did not stir, nor did their bodies appear to rejuvenate in any way. Even the floor was unchanged, simply having a puddle in the middle of the room.

So, more testing then.

In a manner so as to remain hidden from the resident Rahi, Sorilax left and gathered water, sometimes warping Light to hide himself where needed, sometimes not. Each time he returned, he would douse another section of the floor, systematically checking every square inch for some hidden function or revealed pattern. Once the floors were done, he moved on to the walls. Once the walls were left glistening, he covered the ceiling with water, leaving glittering droplets that slowly fell with soft plops as they joined the growing puddle in the middle of the room.

IC Ysocla - Irnakk's Tooth:

Ysocla had been prepared to continue fighting before the leader of the opposing Mesi had issues his challenge. She elected to stay her blade until Lady Yumiwak had responded, though she did not approve of such a challenge. From her perspective this Marrow fellow had the audacity to challenge their group to open combat only to fall back on a traditional duel only after the tides were beginning to turn against him. Such an action seemed less the actions of an honorable person than someone with far too much pride to gracefully accept defeat in a losing situation. Knowing the unmatched pride that her liege possessed, it came as no surprise when Lady Yumiwak accepted such a duel. In the brief conflict that followed, the vo-skakdi took a moment to observe the other assembled Mesi. The one she had been fighting earlier had turned her ear toward the combat in order to better observe the situation. Ysocla wondered what the Mesi was thinking.

Lady Yumiwak soon emerged victorious, leaving the other Mesi to be dealt with. Despite how exhausted she was from the journey to Irnakk’s Tooth, the engineer fought hard, finally besting the onu-skakdi from before. As she cast her vanquished foe into the gaping pit of fire below, she stared at where the eyes on the Mesi would have been. Would there have been regret on her face? Continued defiance despite the situation? Had this conflict really been necessary? Yes it was, she thought to herself. At the end of the day, we fired first and pursued them with hostile intentions. The Mesi in turn chose to escalate the conflict by laying fortifications and preparing an ambush. There was nothing you could do otherwise. Despite her attempts at easing her mind, watching the burning bodies below brought a feeling of unease to her spine. As the group took a moment to consider the next action to take, a feeling started to stir in the back of her mind.

Get out

She couldn’t seem to brush it aside, and it grew more loud and clear.

Get out

A memory flashed before her eyes of her father berating her yet again.

Yso, if you don’t start shaping up I’ll cast you into Irnakk’s Tooth and turn you into a Zivon!

The feeling started drowning out the memory.

Get out

It’s not safe here. We should leave,” she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. No sooner had she spoke those words that the very mountain itself began to rumble.

Get out

Her eyes widened as she snapped out of her stupor. “We have to go, right now!” she yelled, beginning to move back towards the tunnel that had entered from.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Kumu Peninsula

The rahkshi allowed Whisper to seize hold of its weapon as it drove the deadly tip into her armour. The wicked blade carved through the metal almost effortlessly, impaling the aspect upon the staff. Were she a creature of flesh and blood, it would be a mortal wound. But as a creature of antidermis, she was unharmed —at least for now. Wisps of green gas began to leak out around the staff: her shell had been pierced, and would need to be repaired before long if she didn't want her essence scattered to the four winds. Her four tendrils curling around the staff, she wrenched the weapon out of the rahkshi's claws.

The creature shrieked again, but its fearsome scream turned into a startled yelp halfway through. An insect had found its way through a chink in its armor and stung the kraata inside. The momentary distraction was enough for Viltia: one of her hardy vines curled around the rahkshi's ankle while it was too distracted to preemptively escape the trap. The rahkshi jerked its foot out of the plant's grip, shattering the elemental construct into a twisted pile of splinters and fibers, but another thorny vine wrapped itself around its waist while it was dealing the the first. This second vine was followed by a third, and a fourth. The rahkshi tore through its bonds almost as quickly as they bound it, but it wasn't quite as fast. Each broken tendril was replaced by two more, and any time it seemed the rahkshi had a chance to catch up, it convulsed in pain as another insect stung its kraata. Its claws were sharp and its strength was prodigious, but it was not enough. Neither the toa nor the aspect could physically strongarm it into submission, but the combination of their powers was enough to subdue it. Within minutes, the rahkshi's armor was immobilized in a strangling thicket of ironwood vines. Its kraata's screams grew higher and more desperate as it was stung and bitten over and over, until finally the metal carapace snapped open and the slug threw itself from its prison, which was now crawling with insects. It fell to the ground with a splat and began to slither away, leaving dribbles of inky blood in its wake.

OOC: @Gecko Greavesy @Kal the Guardian Congratulations on surviving a rahkshi encounter! Whisper's armor is compromised, but she now possesses a level 4 rahkshi staff of Mind Reading.

IC: Tuyet | Skies Over Zakaz

Tuyet expertly flew the airship through the eyehole of the giant skull. They emerged into a world that was almost as dark as the one they had just left: the sky was black with low-hanging storm clouds, and strong winds buffeted the ship, forcing Tuyet to keep both hands busy adjusting the throttle and various instruments. Looking through the windows, she could see a haze of rainfall on the horizon. She frowned, then shook her head and looked over at Exuze.

"That's rough, buddy. And it's the way war goes, isn't it?" She looked down at her own body, speckled with gemstones and dried blood. "We don't all come back in one piece."

A particularly energetic gust of wind pushed the ship to the side. Tuyet wrestled with the wheel, straining to keep them on course.

"It's never... like... the people up top," she grunted. "It's us. They get their medals... and we get... the rest."

Location - Kumu Peninsula

With - Whisper, Life Kraata creation Muaka

Yes!” Viltia growled from the Muaka’s mouth as her roots took hold and the Rahkshi stopped moving. She tentatively stepped out of the Muaka and towards the wooden dome she no longer was commanding to shrink. She still Observed through the roots inside and felt something small brush up against the wall of the dome, desperately trying to escape.

Warping her element, Viltia had a large wooden box form from the roots already around the Kraata trying to escape and shrunk it so that it couldn’t get free. The dome then grew four seams and curled back like a flower when the sun goes down, revealing the pile of armor and the leaking form of Whisper.

Viltia gasped, “Are you alright?!” She moved to her ally, a tether picking up the wooden box with no seams and a few pinholes that held the enemy Kraata. A leaking Aspect was a wounded Aspect. Kind of.

She had an idea, “Here, I got you.” Viltia created an almost clear, yet tinted slightly brown, goop in her hands. She smeared the goop in large amounts around Whisper’s injury. “This is resin. A lot of trees and some other plants produce it when they get injured.” Viltia created even more of the sticky material and used her control over the Green to keep it in place. She reached out a hand and a portion of the curled back dome stretched to her hand. She took the amorphous glob of ironwood and set it over the resin, forming it and smoothing it out so that Whisper’s armor was as flat and smooth as it had been before the attack.

Viltia stepped back and looked at her hands, having to focus on absorbing the remains of the resin. Absorption was the hardest thing for her to do with her element. She still needed to work on it. “Okay, the resin should harden, but I’ll throw in a Kanoka of Regeneration when I’m able to finish this trade because armor is better than wood.” Viltia looked at the other damage Whisper had taken and then at the pile of savage looking armor. She winced, remembering the damage done to one of her tethers as it throbbed, forcing her to notice it. She thought out loud, “Actually, I’ll probably throw in even more than just what we agreed upon. I wasn’t expecting a fight this hard.” Viltia looked to the doorway that was now open and waiting, “And who knows what’s through there.

IC: Whisper - Kumu Peninsula

For the first few moments, Whisper didn't really register the damage to her shell. There was no pain, no fatigue; it wasn't until she physically perceived the drifting wisps of green around her that she realised the extent of the damage, forcing her to focus on withdrawing her essence back into herself so the Toa could make her unorthodox repairs.

"Thank you," she said to Viltia, instructing her Stasis Field kraata to move over the damaged section of armour, to create a temporary seal if the resin her to break. At the same time, she dispersed the insects she'd summoned, allowing the minuscule creatures to return to their lives.

The object that had been holding her attention was the staff she had in her grasp, and the faint flickers of power she could feel within it, eager and anticipatory. "Mind Reading..." she mused, glancing at the entrapped rahkshi armour, "...so that's what you were."

Now that the battle was over, and whatever the antidermis equivalent of adrenaline was had stopped pulsing through her system, she took a moment to take stock and make sense of what she'd just been through. There was an absence inside her mind, a void left by the loss of the Rite of Desecration. It was gone in both word and action, the memories of her past actions foggy and faded. She knew what it was, how it worked, but somehow the integral details to make it possible were lost. Moreover, whoever had designed this door was clearly an Aspect, or working with one, as evidenced by the door's grotesque guardian. So what was the purpose? Surely not just a mere ploy to kill other Aspects, or the door could have been set up to drain more taboos, and had more than one rahkshi waiting beyond it. So it had to be a test of some kind. An act of sacrifice to open the way, followed by a challenge tough enough to root out the weak, but one that the strong could survive.

And the rahkshi itself... she'd thought her kraata were formidable, that they gave her power, but they were nothing compared to these creatures. With a squad of such soldiers at her back, she'd no longer have to plea and bargain and scrape by in coerced cooperation and tentative tolerance with the Builders. She could set the terms. She could sever the cycles. She could free her people from the fate forced upon them.

But such aspirations were still out of her reach, for now.

"We can settle our price after we're finished here," Whisper replied, already beginning to drift towards the passageway, "I'm not one to open a door then depart without finding out what lies beyond it. I imagine that you aren't, either."

IC Mahrika - Aqua-Sphere

The Desecrated Ga-Matoran approached Ollem to help him up, and after a pause he accepted. The two Matoran stood up and looked around them, spying the overgrown ruins. The citytowered over the Suvas and the Ruins behind the waterfall, the Aqua-Sphere was massive. Buildings were like trees, towering above them. Such a grand city,  and it was coated in plants, engulfed by them.

What happened here?” Mahrika finally asked, as she gripped her blade.

Ollem meanwhile was direct, “did one of your fellow Toa do this?” Mahrika nodded slowly, of course, Ollem was good at grounding her, at reminding her at how hostile the world and its people were. A Toa of the Green could have done this, overtaken the city.

Mahrika held her Flame Sword at the ready. The sphere was nowhere near as wet as she feared, instead it was covered in plant life. Her new weapon would have been almost useless against water, but plants she could burn. She might be able to protect Vokarda from this place. And Ollem too.

IC: Reliable Narrator | MI-Kiri

Sorilax spent the better part of an hour fully soaking the bottom floor of the tower. While everything was dripping wet, and much of the organics on the matoran had turned moist, life did not return. It was very much still a dead end. He’d learned something about the nature of the water, but otherwise there was nothing there.

OOC: @Kal the Guardian, just so you know this is not a puzzle. It’s a dead end.

IC: Kas | Mi-Kiri

Kas began; “well, it was pretty normal stuff Mahrika. Someone got greedy, and then someone thought they could make things better. In the end they just ruined it all for everyone else. This used to be one of several habitable biospheres. After the violence and destruction on Locus Abeo we had Durrem. It was pretty nice for a while. Imagine airships ferrying goods back and forth across glittering star-studded skies. Mi-Kiri is just the district of water. We had canals. We had water treatment plants. There were festivals and beautiful works of art. I ran several charities in this sphere. Now we have a lot of plants and mold.”

He kicked one of the vines near his foot. It was a sickly green color and it retreated on contact. Kas shook his head. “The Administrator needs to be shut off. It’s an AI that has no business continuing to exist in such a broken state. Come along friends.”

Kas set off through the broken streets. He moved quickly, pausing at the end of each block for Mahrika and Ollem to catch up. He chose not to use his mask, letting them see him the whole time. Maybe it was an act of trust: you see me, I see you, no funny business. Or maybe he just couldn’t be bothered. It was hard to tell.

A foreign sound of gears and pistons turning broke their monotonous silence. They could hear the sharp metallic piercing of something sharp and heavy stomping nearby.

He raised his hand and motioned for Mahrika and Ollem to follow him into a building. He hid behind a grubby window. There were puddles of stagnant water on the floor that cast distorted reflections of the exposed pipes in the ceiling above. Kas fiddled with the strap of his bag, but otherwise kept his head down.

A monstrous machine stalked past outside the building. With six legs, a segmented abdomen, and pincers along its mouth, it looked absolutely ominous. It paused at the corner, small electrical shocks and sparks dancing across a sheen of water in the broken roadway. It gave a piercing shriek, its body shaking as if barely able to stay connected, and then it continued stalking off.

“That’s not local,” Kas whispered. “What the Karz was that?”

IC: Icarax, Aspect of Dominion | Somewhere

“Your words have meaning, Korruhn of Ko-Metru. Perhaps you are the sword you speak of, and there is no use for a sword that cuts its master. You invite many things, but you have brought quite the gift to me. This little star is no use to us as a corpse. His mind cannot be read, his future cannot be gleaned. But,” the voice paused, “we can change that.”

The shadows around Korruhn swirled. He felt the thick and overpowering presence of the consciousness beyond the red circle now beside him as well. He could still hear the soft drumming and the shaking of rattles. Still, Korruhn the Cartographer could not determine his location. This was uncharted territory.

Goodbye

Death’s reign is life's beginning

Heaven’s lights are minds dreaming

Destined paths cross in breathing

Replace one’s rhythm with another’s beating

Hello

The skies above the Time Between Time were full of beautiful glittering stars. They softly flickered and blinked, and then one went out forever. A life hung in the balance: one to return, one to be destroyed.

The shadows swirled thicker, pulling Grime’s corpse away from Korruhn to hover directly above the red circle in the space. The muck and mire covering the matoran was stripped away, pulled off as if by a cleansing smoke. His eyes did not open, but Korruhn saw the cracked heartlight begin to blink. The darkness formed the image of the mask watching from beyond, and the voice interred once more;

Goodbye

Release each yoke of mine

Each destined path is one

Remove barriers as they align

Not all must circle around a sun

Hello

Grime’s armor became the colors of charcoal and lava. His body burned with a soft fire, the shackles around his ankles melted away, and Korruhn saw the tattoos scrawled across Grime’s body in full for the first time. Along the arms and down the spine were black inked designs of star charts, constellations for navigation. Swirling taboos symbols were embedded in the charts, and Korruhn recognized the ones he’d learned from Grime’s song with Caedast and Parnassus back in Fort Nektann, but there were others as well unknown and untaught. Across Grime’s chest were matoran letters that read: Destined for the Stars.

At last Grime’s body was relinquished by the shadows and placed in Korruhn’s waiting and outstretched arms. He didn’t know when he’d reached out. He wasn’t sure he’d chosen to do so. Grime felt hot to the touch.

“The rahkshi…” whispered Grime. “You’re… alive…”

OOC: @Crimson Jester your turn. @Eyru and @Vezok's Friend, the taboo of Star Swallowing has been used.

IC: Okuo - Ko-Pou

With all of the food pretty much ready to be served, Okuo stepped out of the kitchen, making his way out of the guardhouse to go check on the afflicted and see how they were feeling. It was upon seeing an unusual glow from within the shelter, how ever, that Okuo hurried his pace, sprinting to the door and opening it up to behold a sight that left him speechless. Stepping inside with a bewildered expression, the door closed behind him as he looked upon a being three times the size of a Toa, enveloped in a glow that spread out to light up an area with the afflicted inside. He had heard of Iradra, the Av-Toa healer, though they had thus far not had a chance to consult her. Was this her? He'd have thought someone would've mentioned how tall she was if so. Peering at the large being, Okuo could have sworn he recognised them, mulling it over before he suddenly came to a realisation. "... Triage?"

IC: Sorilax Life Seeker - Aspect of Light and Silence

Location - Aqua Sphere, Giant Tower, bottom room

When nothing presented itself after drenching the room, Sorilax spent an hour more bringing in plants and just sitting and pondering the situation. He discovered nothing further, though conveniently he had recharged the bit of elemental energy he had consumed with his Light bending technique some hours before. Which was perfect, as he now needed to scour the tower with a fresh mind. Perhaps the top would hold secrets to uncover. If not, there were many rooms to start searching.

Sorilax bent the Light around his Rahkshi form continuously once more, disappearing from view. He extended his Silence to be a field around himself and dismissed the hardlight door blocker. Then he took one last look around the room and started his ascent, trying to see if going in the opposite direction changed perspectives enough for him to spot something new.

"We can settle our price after we're finished here," Her Aspect friend replied, beginning to drift towards the passageway, "I'm not one to open a door then depart without finding out what lies beyond it. I imagine that you aren't, either.

Viltia nodded, “Oh yeah, I’m totally going in. Just give me a sec.” She held out her hands, Manipulated her element, and the rolled up dome of ironwood roots came together under the Rahkshi armor, raising it up three feet in the air. Viltia closed her optics and imagined. The remaining wood formed a tree stump that was three feet thick on each side of the Rahkshi armor, so that it was totally and perfectly encased. The roughly seven foot tall stump morphed and appeared to grow bark, though really Viltia was just manipulating the existing wood. When it was all done, it looked like it was a natural oak stump, though really it was still ironwood and housed a deadly secret.

Writing with her finger in the air, a portion of the bark deformed, as if Viltia was scooping letters into a bowl of crushed pumpkin. When she was finished, Rahkshi was “carved” into the wood.

She opened her optics and smiled, “There we go. If we ever need that armor later, we know where to look.” Viltia motioned her Muaka to her side and pulled her injured tether and the tether holding the boxed Kraata close to her. Then she pulled out her axe/crossbow and walked with Whisper through the doorway, once again relying on her Life Kraata to sense lifeforms for her.

"It's us. They get their medals... and we get... the rest."

IC: Skyra Daring - The Taku -

As the Taku began to pick up speed, Skyra pulled her head back inside and closed the window. Skyra overheard Rose's description of the monster they were dealing with, it sounded massive. While of course Skyra was more than excited to fight a creature of enormous size and power, it did give her pause. She may have been reckless, but she wasn't suicidal. She knew she'd have to take extra care when approaching this thing, and this also made her mission of making sure the beast was too distracted with her to attack the Taku all the more important.

With all this mind the Toa of Air made her way to the lower deck and it's ramp. As soon as they had a clear view of this thing she was going out there.

"I wonder if this thing is a giant, flying whale..."

As Skyra let her sentence hang. Heat sensors lit up on the dash. The radio became full of static and guttural pops, broken up and choppy from the sounds of something absolutely massive cutting through the air.
From her position just below the clouds the rain pelted at her view port, but Rose saw it first. The back of the tahtorak’s ocean-blue hand swung powerfully through the air towards the Taku as if to swat a fly.

IC: Irnakk, Great Spirit of Nightmares | Irnakk's Tooth

There were so many sacrifices today. It was delicious. So many dreams to be devoured. So many nightmares to explore. Each felt as raw and poignant as the moment they were formed. His hunger burned the insides of the volcano, scorched them raw. He walked through each vision, feeling the terror, the disappointment, the inadequacy. Marrow's were particularly satisfying. So much rage, so much concern, so many broken hopes.

Things were not as they should be. Irnakk would fix that. The nightmares were truth, visions of what was wrong and what needed to be done. Irnakk appreciated truth. So he made the monsters, he pulled them from the lava and from the horrors dancing in the shadows of the volcano. The volcano increased its rumbling, and then the magma rose. The heat became unbearable to all but the Great Spirit himself. He lounged, he laughed, he watched winners of the rites scramble for safety. He didn't care if they made it -- his toys were being born.

Outside Irnakk's Tooth the smoke billowed and choked the sky. Lava and boulders burst from the crown, and with it came the riteborn...

IC Mahrika - Aqua-Sphere

Mahrika followed after the Toa but silently mouthed to Ollem, “Locus Aebo? Durrem? Mi-Kiri?” He shrugged in response, neither of them knew of these places. Either these floating cities were something that the Desecrated Ga-Matoran had forgotten, or it was instead a third world, separate from Tren-Nui and the universe of Ollem.

Then they shears the sound of pounding stomps and shrieking metal. Mahrika gripped her blade tight, holding it over her torso as she stepped in front of her Onu-Matoran companion. Neither Vokarda or Ollem would be hurt by this thing, she would not allow it.

Kas led them away however, and they hurried after him. The two Matoran silently trembled as they followed the Toa into the building, keeping low. The two of them shuddered, Ollem fighting the urge to become transparent, Mahrika fighting the compulsion to use her Flame Sword’s powers. They stood there, backs pressed trying to be quiet

Then, gradually the roar faded. As it clattered away Mahrika poked her head up to look at it. The sight was … it was hard to see through the foliage, she focused her telescopic lens on it more, before whispering to Ollem, “I … I did not get a clear look, but it’s pincers looked … looked something like the head of the Vahki I saw? Are Vahki … are there six legged versions?

She hesitated, “I … I do not remember much of Energized Protodermis. I … I had forgot it existed. I … I can vaguely remember something though. I believe it has a dual nature, corruption and healing, empowerment and destruction. Good and bad.”

She frowned beneath her Noble Kiril, her memory failed her, but the dissolving shoreline, the crash of the Ark, the mutated Matoran who came from the abandoned village, and the strange colored waters around the Ark. Was Energized Protodermis leaking from the Ark? Could that be what was destroying the shoreline?

IC: Marrow – Irnakk’s Tooth

The earth quaked and cracked as the behemoth of living green emerged from the maw of Irnakk’s Tooth. Rock fractured underfoot as the Tahtorak stood tall, bellowing his arrival for the world to hear. A noxious smog of smoke and smouldering ash swirled around him, fizzling flickers of flame that painted his presence in a hellish hue.

And then he opened his eyes and saw the sky.

He could see.

He could see the sky.

It was bright, and blue, and beautiful.

Seeing it felt important. It felt like a triumph. It felt familiar, but fleetingly, as if he was finding something that had been lost long ago. Childish excitement ballooned in his bestial body as he gazed upwards… but the why of the feeling eluded him. And then he turned his eyes to the ground, and the jubilation and joy was swallowed up by a great sadness that suddenly swelled inside him. The world below was barren and broken, the beauty burned away. Where had all of the green gone? It had been green before, hadn’t it? Before… before what?

But he couldn’t remember when, or why he felt so sure. It was gone, along with everything else that had come before.

Before what?

A roar erupted from his jaws, a wordless cry of frustration and fury. Why was it so hard to remember? There had been something before this moment, a time of darkness and despair, deep below the world upon which he’d walked. They’d been kind to him down there, kindred spirits in the cold, cruel world. Why couldn’t he recall them? Why had he left them?

And then something came to him, a sliver of understanding.

He’d been going somewhere, trying to find someone.

He started to stagger down the mountainside, his clumsy steps growing more confident the closer he came to the ground, and to the conclusion of his thoughts. In his wake, tiny tufts of life sprouted in his wake, the remnants of desiccated plants that had succumbed to the mountain’s toxins, fresh greenery birthed from long-buried seeds.

He stumbled to a stop near the base of the mountain, eager eyes sweeping the sandy surface for the signs he sought. He’d been going towards the sun, following someone to the farthest edge of the island. He remembered that. And not just one someone, but many. Someone he hated. Someone he blamed. Someone who’d hurt him. Someone who’d hurt the surface. The ones who took the green away.

He saw it. Tire tracks and tread marks, a well-travelled tear in the surface of the earth.

A regular route wrought by those who'd ruined the world.

He’d been trying to find them before.

So he would try to find them now.

And bring the green with him.

Seeds scattered in the sands over the centuries, deprived of life by drought and decay and devastation, began to sprout as Marrow set off across the surface, beginning his monotonous, meandering march to the north-east.

IC: Opal – Irnakk’s Tooth

With her obsidian exoskeleton blending near-perfectly with the bounding boulders and craggy outcroppings of the volcano, the newly-birthed Zivon scuttled as hastily as her hefty form could manage down the mountainside.

She stayed to the smoke as she scrambled, following the flow of the eruption, her movements furtive and near-fearful as she sought to escape the sweltering sun in the sky above. It was like a vibrant, fiery eye, blindingly bright and unblinking in its brutality.

She didn’t belong in this place, trapped in the sun’s searing gaze.

Though this world had birthed her, she sensed her true home lay elsewhere.

She could feel it within, an instinctual longing for the dark, dreadful domain of another dimension.

It was an impulse she didn’t even try to deny. She simply gave in to it, willing herself away, drawing upon power she didn’t even know she possessed to phase through the planes and fade into the Realm of Nightmares.

"'Memos'? I believed those were written, not broadcast."

"It’s an expression."

"Ah. I understand." Ulkarr's tone made it clear that he did, in fact, not understand. Or perhaps, he wanted to make Gnabol think he didn't really understand, for some reason. "Please, take me to your leader, if you could?"

"If I could, yeah. I’m not sure who is supposed to be in charge, actually. It’s all nebulous."

"I’ll fix that."

IC: Enra, Obedient and Impressionable (Tobduk-Koro, Radio Tower) - Know Your Audience

Inside the radio tower, Impressionable began fiddling with the controls, accessing the archive of transmissions both broadcast and received. Apparently, the native tribes had their own radio. He began listening to it at a speed at which only he and Obedient could hear.

"I, uh, dunno much ‘bout radios, if I’m honest." Enra confessed. "I speak into the big black thing, right? What do you want me to tell ‘em, exactly? Do you really want my voice in people’s homes?"

"You are the most logical candidate. The Akiri possesses an error with his voice box, making him prone to unnecessary repetition. And it is been statistically proven that most Matoran feel apprehension upon hearing the standard Vahki vocal apprehension, because most Matoran are filthy criminals-" Obedient twitched a little, and static came out of him for a few moments before returning to normal. "Where did that come from? I apologize."

"O... K."

IC: Reckless, Lawful and Wayward (Tobduk-Koro, Ruins of Stone) - Prepare for New Arrivals

The Amaja Circle. A primitive form of storytelling often used by Turaga. Neither of the bots cared much for it. For Reckless, it was hardly relevant to his function. For Wayward... he did not have a high appraisal of organic culture. Still, if it really did possess some degree of influence, then perhaps it was not a complete waste of sand, stones and time after all.

"Administrator." Reckless called out to his fellow machine intelligence. "Please reiterate - what is the function of the Amaja Circle?"

Lawful entered behind his brothers, intent on using the portal to go to Kini-Koro - and keep an eye on a certain someone.

"Matoran Avka." He addressed the one in charge of guarding the Ruins and its portal. "Did the entity designated 'Ulkarr' travel through this portal recently?" The answer was yes, of course he did, according to Lawful. But the Vahki didn’t quite trust his own judgement on most things. Even this.

Of course, everyone was currently unaware that a flood of people was about to emerge through the portal...

"I believe the Amaja circle in this temple was used in times of need as a way of warding off the foul creatures from the volcano. Telling stories with the different rocks seemed to have an effect in the local area. Through faith and creativity, anything can be achieved."

Whisper floated through the portal after Viltia stepped inside. They found themselves lost alone in darkness. Viltia could not sense Whisper's life, or the life of any other. They traveled for an indeterminate amount of time, until at last they saw the dawning of a red glow where the floor should be. Both found this space on their own, without companionship:

A world of darkness, save for a red ring in the floor of glowing dim light. From it came the softest sound of murmured conversation, the sound of the seashore, and the softest jangle of bells and the shaking of rattles.

IC: Reliable Narrator | Realm of Nightmares

One silver thread

Two bodies dead

The Zivon known as Opal crawled from one realm to another instinctively. Her body vanished from the Time Between Time, but the faintest echo of her shadow remained to scuttle across the landscape breeding fear and despair. In the distance the other direction she saw the world extend and bend. She blinked, and she saw the Time Between Time as a faint overlay. She could travel the distance in the Realm of Nightmares, seeing at all times where she stood in both realities. For Opal, the Realm of Nightmares seemed a riot of blistering color. The world bent in upon itself, as if a great ring without escape. Shadows acted on their own accord in the Realm of Nightmares, lengthening, stretching, laughing, and walking away to return at their leisure. The fears of Builders toiled away as physical manifestations of base terrors that roamed this realm as monsters. They leapt and crawled away from Opal. She was a Zivon, and the base terrors of the Builders' psyches were no match. Each part of the realm seemed alive in its own way. Each harbored some cruelty or violence. Even the warm embrace of the sun was insidious. Anxiety mounted here into boulders that rolled down hills of panic. And everywhere were matoran corpses toiling in chains.

Three broken yolks

Four severed heads

Those who could not walk crawled. Those who could not crawl simply existed as part of the soil beneath them. They came in all forms except the form of their origin. They'd all been broken by society, fixed by madness, and cast into eternal sacrifice without once being recognized as individuals with a purpose or a soul. They were Builders of nightmares now, and swayed in disjointed harmony like seaweed at the bottom of the bay. Opal did not need to pay them mind unless she was hungry. They would not attack her, for she was one of the beasts they served in torment.

Five promised lies

Six scattered stones

In the distance she heard him: the Great Spirit of this realm. He laughed and sang in pleasure. This was his joy, his true reality, and to him she was but a plaything. He sat upon a throne of golden skulls atop the volcano where, in the Time Between Time, Irnakk's Tooth still erupted. He wore a mask with horns, its surface stitched together, and his teeth were carved with the rites of those who worshipped him. In his hands was a mighty spear, and its silver blade glittered brilliantly with fresh gore. He was of shifting shapes, at once swollen and boney with golden spines and then again hunched with a ruined cape and flaming chains, and again still as a someone proud and tall. Opal could not stare at him without feeling the very dread she was made of magnified until her very essence seemed to split and flee.

Seven stars torn

One world born

"Welcome," said the Great Spirit as he laughed and sang. "Welcome my toy. We will fix this world as it should be. Now go, pull them back to me. Bring them back to fear and terror. Consume their trust and love. Love should not exist. It is a flaw. Cleanse it from them until they are toys as they should be."

OOC: @Gecko Greavesy, welcome to Karz. Enjoy your stay. :)

IC: Krrenchk, Drukarus, Detsu, Zekev

Location - Fort Nektann

"Krrenchk, Zekev, you two have yet to be tested. Enter this ring and ready yourselves."

Krrenchk stomped his boots, “Yes! Yes!” He pounded his chest. He was so ready to rematch Drukarus again. He had been thinking of techniques for a while now. The gathered Skakdi filled him with empowerment. He knew they all wished to see if someone could finally best Drukarus.

But for all his excitement and plans to beat the Skakdi of Gravity, his optics flashed to Zekev. Krrenchk would follow his companion’s lead. It would be easier that way.

Zekev gulped, and forced himself to put on a calm expression. Inside, he was getting a little worried. Sure, finally getting to stretch his legs was great, and he’d be happy to beat up others, but Drukarus? That’s another thing entirely.

No time for doubts. Time to work for my bread.

Zekev hopped into the ring, checking his wrist blade. Its small indicator showed it was charged and ready. He looked up and calmed himself, savoring the rising excitement of the ring. He grinned.

I’m ready!” he called out, adjusting his helmet and pounding his axe on his shield.

Detsu unlimbered his battle axe and let it drag across the ground behind him, kicking up dust and sparks, as he entered the circle. His joints creaked with age like the iron buttresses of Fort Nektann itself — but like the fortress, he did not seem able to topple yet.

No matter what prayers he offered to the Destroyer.

Let’s have a nice fight here, boys,” Detsu said, giving the young’uns a tightly-clenched grin. “May the best warskaks win.

Drukarus didn’t speak any further words, instead, his eyes pierced Krrenchk and Zekev, the two Skakdi before him, one who knew a fraction of who Drukarus was and the other who knew the extent of the warlord’s might.

He looked towards Detsu, the elderly Skak standing to his side. He knew that if the other two were to win, then Detsu was the one they needed to defeat, not him. But he would not make it so easy, no, this was a test after all, to see if they were strong, and more so, if they were strong together.

Alright then, time to prove yourselves. I shall give you as much as you give me, but do not think I will show you mercy. Prove to me, your war captain, that you are Skakdi!” Drukarus shouted out, slamming the Fist of Ruk into the arid earth, ripples of gravity warping around the head.

The fight was to begin.

Krrenchk hadn’t stopped pounding the ground with his boot. Thump thump thump thump. He stomped to the beat of an unheard war drum, nodding his head along to it as well. This was his moment to shine. He wouldn’t make his past mistakes. It was time for a plan. It was time to go all out.

His elemental energy conversion rate wasn’t the best since he didn’t practice as often as he should. It was just so frustrating not to make immediate progress when training. So his elemental energy burned off of him like an invisible smoke as he pounded the ground, focusing his element through his boot and into the rock below.

Four crude and massive pillars formed at equidistant points around the ring. The two pairs of Skakdi in between two pillars on each side of the ring so that each pair had a pillar on their left and one on their right. They continued to grow and grow as Krrenchk focused on his rhythmic stomping. And still they continued to grow, far too large to be any form of normal attack. They were several stories tall and still growing, getting ever wider and taller. The noise of stone grinding on stone filled the air, mixing with the shouts of the gathered crowd of onlookers. Several Skakdi booed as their view of the battlefield was impaired

Krrenchk kept partial focus on Zekev and put a hand on him so the other could use his element. If the Ko-Skakdi moved, it was time for Krrenchk to move as well.

Drukarus looked on suspiciously, not sure what the Po-Skakdi’s plan was, as clearly there had to be one if they were willing to expend so much power on creating these pillars.

Hey Krrenchk, tell me when we’re making a move,” he whispered to his teammate. Zekev wasn’t quite sure how they were to proceed with this, so decided to let the other Skakdi take the lead. In the meantime, he channeled his elemental power, a rare and unfamiliar feeling jolting his veins. Some Ice began to form on his shield and armor, adding bulk to his defenses, though he did not pour all his power into it just yet, as he knew the heat of the desert would simply melt it before long.

Detsu dragged his axe across the ground until it lay in front of him. His grip was slack, but ready.

He waited.

Krrenchk stopped what he was doing, lost all combat readiness, and turned to Zekev, “HUH?” His mind reeled. He had never taken a leadership position before. That’s not who he was. The idea kind of scared him a little bit. Yeah, no way. Zekev was going to lead whether the Ko-Skakdi liked it or not. Krrenchk wouldn’t let himself be out-follower-ed by a newcomer to the group.

No, no. You tell me when we’re making a move.” Krrenchk was using his hands to accentuate his words. The idea of Krrenchk as the one to lead, even in a fight with one ally, was preposterous. This new guy had no idea how things worked around here. Drukarus sure understood pretty quickly and adapted to it.

As the two Skakdi began to bicker and fight amongst each other, Drukarus could only scowl from the sight of it. Turning his gaze to Detsu, he muttered for the Ce-Skak to stay close behind him as he charged forwards. Moving towards his current adversaries, his old legs creaked as they asserted themselves, him gritting his teeth through the dull pain as he roared out, swinging down his maul overhead towards the bickering companions, its ‘Fist’ glowing menacingly with gravitonic energy.

Do you expect your foes to be so merciful? For them to stand while you bicker?! If I wanted to, you’d both already be dead!

Zekev pushed Krrenchk to the side, falling in the same direction.

Okay then! Pin or unbalance him with anything you have!” Zekev ‘aimed’ his axe at the maul which now lay buried in the sand. Channeling elemental energy, Ice began to form around the area of the maul where it made contact with the sand.

Krrenchk let himself fall. That was much better. Zekev knew his place. As leader, that is. Now it was just a matter of beating Drukarus. The ripple of Gravity being applied washed over Krrenchk due to its proximity, a weight falling on him like a fifty pound blanket. Krrenchk strained to raise his foot slightly. He just barely managed to do so and let his heel strike the ground.

The effect was a change in his plans, but potentially better this way. A circle around the three Skakdi formed. Maybe four Skakdi, Krrenchk wasn’t sure where Detsu was. A sound like crunching stone spidered out from Drukarus’ strike. Then the floor gave way and they were plummeting into darkness.

Zekev flailed about, trying to catch a glimpse of Drukarus. He thought he saw the Skakdi fall into the hole as well, and mentally activated his amnesia power. A wave of mental lethargy and nausea bombarded his mind as feedback.

Hope I don’t forget how to breathe.

As the floor from where Drukarus struck began to fall away, the Skakdi warlord thought to himself. ‘So that’s what they were planning, wait a minute, who were they, what’s happening, why am I falling?’ Were the thoughts that flowed through his head, the faint grating background noise of the other Skakdi's mind growing more severe, or was that something else, he couldn’t tell let alone know what was happening.

It was a bold strategy — one that Detsu had not seen many warskaks use over the years — and he commended the duo for it, silently. But they would need more than a single clever trick to win against the forces of the Godhead.

Still plummeting, the ancient Skakdi angled himself until he could see Krrenchk free-falling through the air and — with barely a glance — activated his Spellbinder Vision. He needed to keep the other warskak from being at all able to coordinate himself or recover.

Krrenchk suddenly became weightless, floating on a sea of darkness as the small hole they all had fallen through provided little light and grew smaller the longer he fell. Or did he twist in the air and just lost sight of the hole instead? He couldn’t focus for some reason. It felt like minutes of falling, the air rushing past and pushing against him, keeping him aloft far longer than was natural. He felt like a fall leaf on the wind, the barest breeze sending him aloft. He was supposed to be doing something, but what was it?

He lost all sense of spatial relations and time. Everything was dark and felt windy. And then the ground jumped him out of nowhere, slamming into his body with full force. It probably had found a corner to jump out from behind while he hadn’t been looking. Krrenchk grunted, wind knocked out of him. The physical damage from the fall was minimal, but the pain of losing all his air stung his organic protodermis lungs. He wasn’t sure, but as he tried to regain his breath, he felt like things hadn’t gone according to plan, whatever his plan had been. Wait… plan for what? What was going on? What was he doing?

Krrenchk focused on his own mind. Something was affecting it, he could feel that now. He didn’t have mental training, but he tried his best to throw off the feeling. He needed to clear his mind.

Detsu let the effects of his Spellbinder vision fade in Krrenchk’s mind — sending a silent prayer to the Destroyer that the other warskak wouldn’t be able to regain his balance by the time that the Ce-Skakdi had made it to ground.

And speaking of the ground....

Detsu reached out through the open air, looping one arm around Drukarus’ waist while the other reached out and loosed the battleax from his own back. He raised it into the air and, with naught but a thought, activated the levitation disks built into its head. Detsu’s — and, by extension, Drukarus’ — descent slowed abruptly as the two war skaks floated down to the bottom of the chasm as leisurely as if they were taking a stroll around the fort to check up on the war skaks.

Zekev, for his part, shook his head clear of his self-inflicted lethargy. While they had still been falling, he saw Krrenchk flail about, then go limp. He watched Detsu grab Drukarus. They were vulnerable, but with no ranged options, Zekev could only shift his effort to assist Krrenchk.

Zekev reached out, trying not to tumble, and grabbed Krrenck by the arm. Elemental power flowed through him, and Zekev reached out with his hand, focussed on forming snow. Lots of it, around the part of the floor the pair were racing towards.

The impact still hurt, with Krrenchk taking the brunt of it, but at least there weren’t any broken bones. No problem anyway, as Zekev knew how to set-

Oh, come on, Zekev groaned, aloud, as he realised he had mostly forgotten how to set a splint. The memory would return in time, and hopefully mostly intact.

He did remember how to alleviate most of the effects of spellbinder vision, which was what he was sure Krrenchk was subjected to, given his rolling eyes and arm “floating” that was characteristic of it. He propped Krrenchk against the mound of snow.

Hey! Look at me. Count to five.

Krrenchk noticed a Ko-Skakdi in front of him. It was… Zekev. The newcomer. But counting up to the number five? That seemed pretty hard. “One… Two… Uh… Fo- no, Three.” His mind was actually getting clearer as he focused on counting. But Detsu had already stopped actively focusing on the effect and Krrenchk’s mind jumped back in full, “FourFive!” Krrenchk rose from the snowbank to see the pit was in a dim haze as sunlight streaked from the small hole up above. Drukarus and Detsu had already landed.

Krrenchk placed a hand on Zekev and tapped his boot on the ground, “Let’s see if this distracts them.” A large chunk of stone above where Drukarus and Detsu were broke off with a loud crack, plummeting to crush them as it slowly turned as it fell. Krrenchk noticed his elemental energy was alarmingly used up. He must have expended more than he thought while making this pit.

Drukarus couldn’t focus, a muddy-ness was masking his usually steadfast thoughts as he tried to concentrate upon the situation; but he just couldn’t, the effect induced upon him by Zekev was only being compounded in severity by his mental defenses failing allowing the needles of the other Skakdis’ minds to grow into spikes as they impaled his thoughts, his teeth gritting as too keep him from simply screaming out. There was so much noise. The sound level of the Skakdi up above cheering and jeering was little compared to how their unguarded thoughts jumped into his mind.

But in that obfusicating cloud mixed with the distracting ringing pains, a glimmer of clarity took hold, as a cold squirming was felt within his chest as the stabbing pain of the others’ minds changed into a sharpened clarity as their thoughts and intentions soon became clear to him. And amongst those intentions, was the intention of Krrenchk to drop the ceiling upon them.

Recognizing the presence of Detsu, Drukarus quickly grabbed upon them as he altered his grasp of his maul to the far more cumbersome grip of his gauntlet as he instinctively channeled his element in both manners. Around the two Skakdi, gravity failed, as the falling stone was caught in mid-air, while his maul increased greatly in weight, keeping Drukarus at least grounded. Silver blood started to bleed out of the warlord’s nostrils.

Feeling himself drift upwards, Detsu brought his axe down, embedding the blade into the rough stone and keeping himself grounded.

He reached out his hand towards Zekev, letting Drukarus’ use of his elemental energy to influence Detsu’s own. He focused on Zekev’s psyche, and tried to make it feel the way that gravity must be feeling in this pit: being pulled in two different directions.

Yield!” the ancient warskak shouted.

ARGH-” Zekev felt his legs collapse under him. Detsu’s voice seemed to echo too hard in his head, and he felt his control over his body evaporate.

No no……. Zekev managed to struggle to pull his head up even as his limbs fell prostrate, forced by Detsu’s will.

You wish!” Zekev managed to snarl, and focused his gaze on where Drukarus held on to Detsu. He launched lasers from his optics towards there. It was but a gesture of defiance, but he also hoped to break the old Skak’s concentration at least momentarily, or separate the pair.

Krrenchk watched in dismay as Drukarus noticed and nullified his attack. It was time for a more risky gambit then. Calling to bare most of his remaining element energy, Krrenchk stomped the ground, his control of his element moving unnoticed through the rock until it manifested around Drukarus’ feet. Once the effect was under the Skakdi of Gravity, the very stone itself became liquid. But it didn’t only become like liquid, it actively rose up Drukarus’ feet and legs, trying to pull him under the ground he stood upon.

If this plan failed, then hopefully the stone Drukarus was holding up would continue its fall onto the rival pair. Krrenchk thought about that some more. Drukarus probably already had several unused tricks waiting to be used that would still neutralize the falling slab of rock. Krrenchk realized he needed to get as close as he could, while he could, to use his Silver Blade. Krrenchk started to move, but stopped himself. He would follow Zekev’s lead, of course. He stayed put for now.

With Drukarus’ mind working off of a purely instinctual level, it guided by the cursed heart he now bares, his’ focus upon keeping up the zero-gravity field around himself and Detsu fell away as the warlord sought to break away from the rising ground beneath him, letting loose the stone that now once more fell upon the himself and Detsu.

Detsu, catching sight of the beams of Zekev, had already moved away from Drukarus and was free from the crushing impact as the slab of stone fell upon the Ba-Skak.

Such a weight would crush and pin most Skakdi, but not Drukarus, as his body grew in response to the rocks impact against him, his size increasing by a significant degree, the rock around his feet breaking away as he now stood over twelve feet in height. Although more silver blood began to spill from the corner of his lips, his optics starting to become bloodshot from the reliance upon his curse.

The laser vision struck true, melting armour and searing skin — Detsu only just managed to pull his arm back before his wrist and his elbow were separated from one another forever. Still in shock, he dropped his mental attack upon Zekev, collapsing to one knee. He cradled his burnt forearm, saying a brief prayer to Irnakk that the pain would vanish soon—

--when he chanced to look up and see death bearing down on him.

Stones falling, masonry crumbling. Detsu stared up at it—

a son, an axe, a partner, a body

--but before the rubble could strike him—

--a bargain, a price, a would-be king, a death wish

--his own curse acted, and where once he was next to Drukarus, within the blink of an eye, he knelt next to Zekev and Krrenchk. The battle was over.

And yet, Drukarus still loomed, a titanic force — more beast than warskak, Detsu found himself thinking.

Drukarus stood there with his titanic posture, his instincts ready to react to whatever may come. But that was when the blurry haze started to dissipate and Drukarus’ conscious mind began to take hold, building up the defenses that were so swiftly torn down by Zekev’s psychic attack. Once more sane within his mind, he understood that they had won, but only technically so and through luck rather than cooperation or skill.

Krrenchk jumped at the sudden appearance of Detsu, the Silver Blade forming throughout his right leg. He moved to kick and hesitated. Why wasn’t Detsu moving?

No…

Krrenchk noticed even Drukarus had stopped in the pursuit of combat. “No! That’s not fair!

The Po-Skakdi looked from Drukarus to Detsu and back again, “We can keep going, right? Right?” The look in Drukarus’ enlarged optics said otherwise. Krrenchk’s spirits fell. This didn’t feel like a win at all. This was so dumb. He wanted to beat Drukarus honorably, not through some technicality. This was so dumb!

Krrenchk sighed. There was no use fighting the predetermined rules. He adjusted his mask and stomped the ground, his elemental energy all but gone at this point. A large section of the rock ceiling collapsed, forming a ramp to allow escape and allowing a large portion of hot desert sunlight to fill the pit. “Follow me, I guess,” his disappointment showed through his voice, “I’ll get you healed up.” He moved off to go to his Crushing Foot, which was parked nearby so he could heal all the other fighters throughout the day. Well, except for himself, unfortunately. His Rhotuka of healing didn’t work on himself.

The cheers of the gathered Skakdi at the conclusion to the match fell on unfeeling audio receptors as Krrenchk hopped into his ACR and fired it up. He so wished he had been able to defeat Drukarus on his own.

Well…. Maybe later.

Krrenchk worked the controls and fired his Rhotuka from the top of the van, striking Drukarus, Detsu, and Zekev in turn. After that was finished up, he took out his Heartlight key and hopped from the ACR, walking over to the other three Skakdi. What was supposed to happen now?

Weary, though renewed by Krrenchk’s Rhotuka, Drukarus looked towards the rest of his War Skaks, curious if any of them were starting to get ideas from the outcome of the last battle. He doubted it, as only a fool would think that meant he could be beaten so easily. With his commanding voice, he spoke out to his war host.

Skakdi! Each of you have fought today and shown me what you are capable of; some of you surprised me, others disappointed, most were acceptable. You are free to return to your usual duties, for I now need time to go over all that I have seen, to allow the strong to make up for the weak. You are all dismissed. Detsu, come.” Drukarus said, as he started to make his way back to the fort, to his quarters where he would devise his cohorts and prepare for the coming days.

Krrenchk watched everyone depart and sighed. It was his job to repair the damage done to the makeshift arena and he would have to wait for his elemental energy to recharge. A few hours past, but finally he got everything back to normal and drove the Crushing Foot back inside the fort.

Hopefully something exciting would happen soon.

OOC: Jammed out with @Sparticus147, @Void Emissary, and @NorikSigma. So glad to finally have this posted! Let's put Fort Nektann back on the map before it gets wiped off the map! :D

IC: Whisper – Somewhere

“Hello?” She called, two of her hands grasping the staff of Mind Reading as she used its power to try to sense if any one or thing was nearby. The Toa was gone. Only her kraata companions remained.

She drifted towards the red circle, to see if something would transpire once she entered it.

IC: Opal – Realm of Nightmares

Within moments of her arrival in the Realm of Nightmares, Opal knew she was exactly where she belonged.

She was a titan, tall and tortuous, scattering lost souls in her wake as she strode across the nightmarish landscape. They crawled and clawed and cried and cowered before her, affording her the fear and reverence she’d never experienced in her old life.

Her old life… she could recall little of it, and even what little she remembered felt foggy and furtive.

She’d been small and insignificant. Horrid and hunted and hated.

But now she was the predator.

She was the bringer of pain.

And that was what he wanted, the monster that was her murderer and maker and master. She was to fix the world, to fill it with fear and purge it of positivity.

Forcing her gaze away from his grotesque glory, she surveyed the world around her, and the world beyond it, searching for a sign of dark places to weave her work. She settled on a bank of storm clouds in the distance, and scuttled towards it, content to remain in her realm until she drew closer.

IC: Viltia - Toa of the Green

Location - ???

Viltia found herself alone, Whisper nowhere to be found, or sensed. Not even her Muaka was still with her. She pulled all of her tethers close and simply walked. Not even the soft silver glow of her tendrils illuminated this suffocatingly black space. She kept her crossbow at the ready, though with time her sense of danger diffused so her crossbow drooped down more and more.

After an amount of time she couldn’t place, noise caught her audio receptors’ attention. Hushed tones of barely whispered conversation came to her along with the sound of the sea on a hot and warm day, waves gently beating upon the shore. There was another sound, like windchimes that danced in the breeze, jingling bells and shaking rattles. It wasn’t malicious in any way. In fact, it calmed Viltia even more.

As she followed the noise, she found herself staring at a red glowing ring in the floor. The noise seemed to be emanating from it. She curiously peered down at the light as she stood near its edge. What in the name of blooming junipers was going on in this dark place?

IC Kanohi - Tobduk-Koro

The cross-wired Councilor winced, shuffling awkwardly, “S-sorry, I did not communicate well. I had … Enra had heard the message of the Admin regarding the stones, I was hoping she would remember more details when we broadcasted.

He paused and swallowed, “but maybe she should broadcast. Make it more … coherent for Kini-Koro.” He winced he … he did not feel like he had better self esteem. But his voice being an error, if the age-Matoran himself had said it, that would be fine. It would have just been a joke or, a simple truth. But hearing it from another, it sat ill.

Especially since it was not a problem with his voice processor. It was his anxiety, making it hard to trust his own words. Trust he did not seem a fool or a failure.

Still, as uncomfortable as he felt having his voice called ‘an error,’ lives were on the line. That mattered far more. So swallowing he said, “We will need to inform Akiri Vulimai that we will accept their refugees in this … crisis. I do not remember if you were in Po-Koro when the rain … the Tahtarok attacked, but it’s power was w-water. And during the flood, it turned the village into a quagmire.

He paused, “They need to avoid hiding in bunkers or tunnels, they will only collapse and flood. Likewise as the ground is eroded the landscape will crumble, especially around where caves and tunnels lay. They will need people with the power of the ground to stabilize the terrain. Toa of … Toa and Skakdi of Stone, Earth, Iron, Magnetism, Jungle, and even ice should be able to plaster and hold the land together. Psionics might help to. During the Flood of Po-Koro Komisti used their Kanoka Blade of Freezing to slow the village sinking.

Kanohi swallowed, drumming his staff as he drew it. He … he did not believe the people of Kini-Koro could actually fight the beast. Only weather it, survive it as it wanders past. And if it actively wished to destroy them? There was nothing he could do.

Finally he added, “then explain the stones, as best you can.

IC “Komisti” - Stone Ruins of Tobduk-Koro

Avka nodded, “He indeed ran through in a huff. I tried to stop him, of course, but he got past.” Komisti paused, they were not sure if they fully believed that the Av-Matoran tried to stop Ulkarr, something in their wording, but it mattered little.

Then the Admin spoke, and the Vortixx winced. “I … we have to invent a tale? I … don’t see how that would help. And I am unfamiliar with stories. What about you two?” They asked the two Protoderms, before pausing, “Lawful, Reckless, are you familiar with this art?

I could try, never got a chance to tell stories in Stelt,” the Big Bruiser offered.

If it’s storytelling we need, I can handle that,” Avka boasted, “I have watched many performances of the Dance of the Rain Demon.” Komisti nodded slowly. Of course, that dance the Matoran of Tobduk-Koro perform to celebrate the Toa and others saving them during the flood. It was appropriate to the situation, maybe it would—

And then the portal erupted with refugees, scrambling over themselves. They were mostly Matoran, but there also were Vortixx, Steltian elites, and an assortment of other Protoderms. They barreled through, their armor and clothes soaking wet, their optics wide in fear.

Komisti was shoved to the side, slammed into a wall. As they stood dazed Avka leapt behind a doorway, hiding out as the refugees fled. The Big Bruiser handled the swarm best, her body was a wall of biomechanical muscle. As they scrambled past she called out, “I will handle them, Avka, go use the circle.” She began to walk among them, trying to herd them and reassure them.

Avka meanwhile squeezed their way towards the Amaja Circle’s room. Their hands glowed pearl gold with fiery light, helping ward so of the retreating villagers from colliding with them. They would protect Kini-Koro and Tobduk-Koro. And what other way could defeating a monster be done than with the act any Matoran could do, and do better than any breed. The Principle of Creation would guide them now.

IC: Zadred - Kini-Koro

What had been intended as a simple visit to a friend in Kini-Koro turned into an arduous evacuation effort as Zadred did her best to help out, lending her aid where she could be it by binding the ground with stronger roots or by employing her Skakdi strength to help carry things between places. The heavy rain beat down on her as she worked her hardest to keep up. She certainly hadn't expected this to be her day, but she wasn't going to up and run away from it either. She could help here, so she was going to help, wherever she could lend a hand.
