I was wondering about if any progress was being made there, but I didn't want to poke because I knew the answer was most likely "IRL is still getting in the way" and that's not really something anyone can do anything about. I have some trouble playing spontaneous characters like this, I always feel like I don't have a firm grasp on their personality when I've just made it up on the spot (I'm more used to RPing as canon characters, where I can always go back to canon for reference if I'm uncertain), and my lack of confidence in that is part of why I've been taking so long between posts. On the one hand, having a second character would necessitate me being more active here, which would force me not to procrastinate on replies regardless of my grasp on my characters... but on the other hand, it might just double the problem rather than helping. As for keeping a firm grasp on characters' personalities, I understand that anxiety. Personally, I find it easier when I've built up some momentum, so you might be right that another character would help. Your mileage may vary, though. The New Players topic is a good place to start; the brief overviews of how to play are great. Some parts covering story bits are a bit outdated, but the how to play stuff still holds up, and the final post is pretty up to date. For the setting, we are on a version of Mata Nui most similar to the first years, but with a good amount of development. We also have an archive site with other information, including a wiki. First you need to post your character profile in our Profiles topic, then you can write their first post in one of our locations. We have three main groups of topics; Mata Nui, Kentoku, and Zakaz. The Kentoku Archipelago and Zakaz both have logical restrictions on what characters can be there, but Mata Nui is a big ol' salad of species. Depending on your preferences, Mata Nui or Zakaz make for good starting places; Mata Nui has a certain level of familiarity, even though our version is different from canon, and Zakaz is new to this arc, which means that there's a lot less history to catch up on. Skakdi definitely exist on Mata-Nui as well, if you wanted to put your character to either of those islands it'd totally make sense! You can always create an 'introductory' post for your character in a location that others are, and mention out-of-character that you're looking for interaction, and see if people bite. Otherwise, if there are other characters nearby, you can always notice them and approach them - so long as it makes sense. If you're ever unsure if you should or shouldn't join an interaction, you can always private message a player involved and ask! The key really when you're first starting out is to just get interacting with other characters, and seeing what happens next. If something doesn't go as you expected, or the interaction fizzles out (for instance if the other player vanishes), you can always move on too - or PM them and see if it'd be easier to get back on track by time-skipping ahead.
