Laughing Man Posted October 15, 2016 Author Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) warm dang, the new Meshuggah is pretty awesome. honestly probably one of my favorites they've done. I was kinda burnt out/bored with them for a while but this new album has reminded me why I used to love them also the new Darkthrone slays edit: also, new Ulcerate in two weeks, hyped as FRICK Edited October 15, 2016 by Serein Quote
Bambi Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Anyone else heard the new Overkill single? Sounds a lot like Electric Rattlesnake. Quote [my blog] [custom emotes]
Johnny Truant Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 warm dang hey this is clever and i appreciate it new mushuggah is definitely growing on me more than koloss ever will Quote only in dreams.
Laughing Man Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 geez this topic is dead new Metallica is surprisingly not bad I mean, it's still post-80s Metallica, but it's probably better than anything since the black album that's really the only new metal album I've listened to in a while, besides the new In Flames which.. the less said about the better Quote
Bambi Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 The Agony Scene have finally posted another update on Facebook. Looks like they're scrapping their plans for an EP and giving us a full length instead, which is perfectly alright with me. They also plan on "touring as extensively as possible", perhaps sometime in 2017.Sooo ready. Quote [my blog] [custom emotes]
Johnny Truant Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 guys that new Superjoint tho its still the same old tired "bwah the media's bad" thing from phil but his vocals are still punishing, maybe even more so as he ages and its still the same sloppy-on-purpose NOLA sludgecore from the rest of the guys but still really heavy and everything good about the genre Quote only in dreams.
Laughing Man Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 everything Phil Anselmo has ever done has sucked Quote
Johnny Truant Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 does that include pantera and that may be your opinion but nothing hes ever done has sucked as bad as heckyeah Quote only in dreams.
Laughing Man Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 yes that includes Pantera, barring maybe Cowboys from Heck which was alright ("Cemetery Gates" is a pretty kickarse song) probs most overrated band in metal tbh Quote
Johnny Truant Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 thats a pretty bold claim when metallica exists Quote only in dreams.
Laughing Man Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 early Metallica was legit though and had 100x more substance than anything Pantera wrote post-Cowboys (and even a lot of what was on that album) Quote
Johnny Truant Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 (edited) >100x more substance than hollow? or 10s? or suicide note pt. 1? ill agree that most of phils lyrics are a bunch of shallow tough guy posting up but hollow is about a friend of his that was brain-dead and kept alive by life support, 10s is a view of a sad, broken junkie of a man trapped on the carousel of heroin addiction, and suicide note is...kind of the same thing i guess but still alls im sayin is dont discount him as a songwriter completely just because most pantera songs sound like things he shouts at people when he tries to fight them (or for the fact that hes probably a nazi) Edited December 11, 2016 by Johnny Truant Quote only in dreams.
Bambi Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Hey all, just popping in to remind everyone to check out Overkill's great new album The Grinding Wheel. Quote [my blog] [custom emotes]
Laughing Man Posted February 11, 2017 Author Posted February 11, 2017 prediction: it sounds like every other Overkill album Quote
Bambi Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 (edited) Maybe not every other Overkill album. They're still good at doing what they do though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edited February 11, 2017 by Bambi Quote [my blog] [custom emotes]
Laughing Man Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 year got off to a slow start imo but it's finally hitting its stride. The Assassination of Julius Caesar by Ulver (while not technically a metal album itself, I still consider Ulver a part of the metal scene), Infrared Horizon by Artificial Brain, Not for Music by Emptiness, Gnosis Kardias (Of Transcension and Involution) by Inferno, A Place Where There's No More Pain by Life of Agony, and Godless Prophets and the Migrant Flora by Darkest Hour are my favorite metal albums of the year so far and there's a lot I still haven't checked out. new Mastodon and Novembers Doom are solid, too. Quote
Johnny Truant Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 im in love with the new mastodon actually sikth released a single called golden cufflinks and im disappointed in it tbhthey sound really good but theres no...zazz Quote only in dreams.
Laughing Man Posted May 18, 2017 Author Posted May 18, 2017 guys listen to Futility Report by White Ward it's basically black metal + post-metal + jazz and it's incredible 1 Quote
Johnny Truant Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 ok so i was almost entirely wrong about the new sikth golden cufflinks has no zazz because the rest of the songs have all of it vivid makes me especially happy because its got such a nu-metal groove Quote only in dreams.
Laughing Man Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 you say nu-metal groove like it's a good thing new Sikth is a disappointment, sounds really watered down and uninteresting compared to their previous stuff Quote
Queen of Liars Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I really love SikTh, but like... I would honestly rather have them take another break and have Mikee go do some more stuff with Outside the Coma instead at this point. Or have him do anything else really, because I kind of feel like he might be on a completely different level than the rest of SikTh and they're just holding him back? The Battle of Being was a better album than classic SikTh, and certainly much much better than the new. Quote ___ ___ ___
Johnny Truant Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 honestly i cant deny the truth in those statements but i was worried the whole album would be as lifeless and bland as golden cufflinks and was pleasantly surprised i do have a soft spot for nu-metal tho Quote only in dreams.
fasggbfrfesv Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Anyone in bands? Or play an instrument? 1 Quote
Evergrey: Toa of Music Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Anyone in bands? Or play an instrument? I'm the drummer/backing vocalist for a groove/hardrock/pop punk group named "The Winks." We just formed this year and we hope to start getting gigs soon. I also march trumpet in my college marching band. (I know both of those aren't metal (well a trumpet is made out of metal)). So as far as metal music goes, go listen to Trivium's new song if you haven't heard it yet ("The Sin and the Sentence"). It's fantastic and I'm very excited for their next album! PS, I also play a little bit of guitar and I'm working a few of my own original songs (I'd classify them as a mix of melodic metal, old school heavy metal (like Iron Maiden), and a little bit of progressive rock/metal. When I'm not busy, I'd like to record them. Cheers! 1 Quote Other great bands: Iron Maiden Journey Mercenary The Unguided Trivium Boston Stratovarius Symphony X Epica
Johnny Truant Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 i play guitar in a bandhopefully we can start gigging and paying our dues asap so in 5 years-ish we can really be doing thisbut we need a good name, theres no good names not metal but im influenced a fair bit by hardcore and or post-hardcore Quote only in dreams.
guitarrage07 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I play guitar, bass, mandolin, and sing. Have a complete solo album finished called "Somethingness." Working on another. Quote My podcast with me and my friends- the Goofidcast- coming soon!
