Lenny7092 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) Hi, guys. Are you wondering where do the elemental powers come from? Well, I have a theory about that: Before the people of Spherus Magna formed their tribes, they discovered (natural) magical crystals, which are G1’s Elemental Crystals from G2. The types of these crystals are Fire, Water, Air, Ice, Stone, Earth, Lightning, Magnetism, Jungle, Sonics, Plasma, Gravity, Iron, Psionics, and Energy. The crystals can be used to shoot elemental energy. The Energy Crystals can turn into Light or Shadow Crystals, depending on one’s morality. The people mined the crystals and used them as inspiration for their tribes. They formed the Fire Tribe, Water Tribe, Jungle Tribe, Rock Tribe (also called Stone Tribe), Iron Tribe, and Earth Tribe. They did not form tribes based on the other elements because they probably would not want too many tribes and would think that these elements are dangerous. Glatorian species people wanted to form a Rock Tribe, but the Skrall had taken it. They wanted to join the Rock and Earth Tribes, but the tribes declined their permission to join because the tribes are big enough, so these people formed the Sand Tribe as a compromise for themselves. The Great Beings used the Rock and Earth Crystals to invent the element of Sand to go along with the tribe. The tribes did not use the crystals often before the Core War because they could be dangerous if being misused. However, when the Great Beings turned seven warriors into the Element Lords, they may have used Elemental Crystals to give these people their elemental powers. When the Core War happened, the people used the crystals to temporarily give their weapons elemental powers (shown in the short story called “Descendance”). When the Great Beings were created the Matoran Universe, they used the crystals to give elemental energy to the Matoran species. The Great Beings put many crystals in the Matoran Universe, so the people from there could use them for their various purposes. The Great Beings turned many Energy Crystals into Light Crystals, so these crystals could be used to create the Av-Matoran and Umbra. The Great Beings turned many Energy Crystals into Shadow Crystals. These crystals and some of the other types of Crystals were mixed with Antidermis, so the Makuta could have these powers. Since there are no Sand Crystals, no Matoran species people of Sand were created. The crystals were used to make various elemental objects in the Matoran Universe, like Toa Disks and elemental Kanohi. After the Core War ended with the Shattering, the people of Spherus Magna stopped using the crystals because, like I said before, these crystals are dangerous. So, there. Master Inika Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Eh, it's not really doing it for me. Having the G2 crystals exist in G1 doesn't really add anything, it's just a connection for the sake of having a connection, and seems to raise more questions than it answers. The idea that the Spherus Magnans believed Iron was more dangerous than Fire seems difficult for me to believe. In a more general sense, though, it challenges my suspension of disbelief that the elemental tribes were the result of a centralized, organized process imposed from the top-down. That isn't really how real-world tribal communities form, they just exist from time immemorial. The idea that each tribe would voluntarily limit itself to one kind of elemental power, too, seems hard to believe, especially by the time of the Core War. If you're the Element Lord of Ice, and you have the option of giving your army different powers just by stealing special crystals, why wouldn't you? The implication of the canon storyline (at least to me) is that the process by which the tribes were able to energize their tools with elemental powers was somehow tied to them living in regions associated with those powers, which provides a much better explanation as to why each tribe specialized in only one element. [The story is called "Decadence," by the way, not "Descendance."] I don't really have anything to say about the Matoran Universe connections except that it explains too much and the explanations don't make that much sense. If you need to be morally evil to create Shadow Crystals, why would the Great Beings make them in the first place? Your final comment about the Bara Magnans voluntarily renouncing the use of elemental powers because they are "dangerous" also strikes me as naive. The Skrall, certainly, would have taken advantage of anything they could against the Baterra. Again, canon's current implication--that the technology to energize things with elemental powers broke down or otherwise could not be used after the Shattering--makes more sense. 1 Quote "You are an absolute in these uncertain times. Well, I have a theory about that: I'm with Master Inika on this. This is a weird forced connection that doesn't add anything to the story except questions, complications, and plot holes. Not to mention that this explanation only works if you actively ignore a lot of pre-established details. Setting aside all of the many story issues, the biggest problem with this "theory" is that it cannot possibly be true from a real-world perspective. G2 was created more than a decade after the inception of G1, by a new story team. Therefore, any concepts that were created for G2 wouldn't have been part of the concepts for G1. 4 hours ago, Master Inika said: Your final comment about the Bara Magnans voluntarily renouncing the use of elemental powers because they are "dangerous" also strikes me as naive. I especially agree with this part. The people of Bara Magna were so greedy and ignorant that they blew up their own planet in the pursuit of a resource they didn't even understand. They were so isolationist and distrustful that they let their society stagnate for 100,000 years instead of cooperating. They absolutely wouldn't let something like these crystals sit around gathering dust. After all, if everyone had an abundance of magical crystals that could create food and water out of nothing, there'd be no need for the Glatorian system in the first place. 2 Quote Embers - A Bionicle Saga - Chapters/Review Ballads of the Bionicle - lore/character songs - Topic Class Is Out - A Farewell To Corpus Rahkshi - Chapters/Review BZPRPG Characters - Minnorak, Kain, T'harrak, Savis, Vazaria, Lash BZPRPG Mercenary Group - The Outsiders - Description - History - Base Ghosts Of Bara Magna - Ash Tribe - Precipere - Kehla, Somok, Skrall, Gayle, Avinus, Zha'ar
