Chapter 1: The Paradise Island of Makuta   Section 1: The Pain Machine The being’s first conscious experience was agony. As it laid on the shore, the dwindling flame in its chest threatening to go out at every lapping of the waves, it felt double the pain for each scattered limb. Just as its body was separated, so was its mind. It was the arm and the hand that desperately searched for something to hold on to, it was the legs, both unable to stand up and walk on their own and it
