OOC: YES! But do not yell. Plus I have no idea where you are, and how the Maelstrom is there in the first place.

IC:

Rick began to descend onto Advant Gardens. He looked around him to see if anything was wrong. Besides, he needed to do some solo work while clearing his head. Then again, he could contact someone that he knew while over at the Venture Explorer if they needed help.

IC: Blake, Grace (Bridge)

"2...1... anndd it's dropped."

With those words, Blake allowed the makeshift bridge to simply fall to pieces, bricks clattering to the ground below. He sags, and Grace is only barely able to catch the Engineer and keep him from faceplanting into the ground.

"Come on, Blake. Let's get ya down to the Sentinel Camp."

The duo make their way over the elevators, taking one down into the Camp. Finding it extremely crowded, the two only take the time to grab a Cup on Imagination for Blake and then they escape out onto the Monument. After taking a few jumpers upwards, Blake settles on Bob's head, Grace next to him.

"Peace and quiet, eh?"

"Indeed."

Having a moment of peace, Excalibur the SaberTooth escaping from Blake's pack and curling up near his master, they just watch the sky and land as the wreckage of the Venture Explorer smokes in the distance.

IC:Cyrista pulled his DEAR off his magnetic attachment point on his back and tossed it to Vincent. "I know you're not good at guns, but use this anyways! Don't worry about the power, just spam shots. If they get too close, feel free to discard it and use your swords!" Cyrista shifted his arms into cannons and began firing at the Stromlings.

OOC:Sorry about the length, I'm used to the Exo-Force RPG, with the shortish posts it uses. Once that guy posts, I can probably do something larger.

OOC: So I've had a very busy month. I owe all of you, and myself, an apology. I have come to realize that story arcs, at this stage, were a grave mistake. This is exactly the same mistake I made three years ago when I last tried to run an RPG. I thought having a cohost would change things, but I believe the problem lies in the idea of arcs themselves.Because story arcs worked so well for the DARPG, I of course assumed that the same tactic would work elsewhere. What it took me until now to realize was that the DARPG had three years to establish itself as an open sandbox beforehand, and when the story arc format came into play, even the newest members had had at least several months to develop their characters, etc. Not only that, but there were only about half a dozen regular players, so everyone still playing was pretty dedicated. So what does this have to do with LEGO Universe? Well, I'm rather hoping it's not too late for a reinvigoration. Consider this game a pure sandbox until further notice. I have stories in my head for my characters, but the direction of the game as a whole -- that's up to you guys for now.(I have not discussed this with Brikman, as these thoughts only just came to me in the past twenty-four hours, and given that this thread is literally mere days from death, I decided not to wait on a response from someone with a life at least as busy as mine.)I will be away for several days starting this Thursday, but I shall devote plenty of time to drafting ICs. I road we can get this hope back on the show. Edited by Jacks

IC: SonyaxeAs Sonyaxe slid down the mountain on his shield, he reflected on what had happened aboard the Venture Explorer. After fighting his way free of a swarm of Mealstorm, he and his crew had been thrown from the Venture Explorer and scattered around Avant Gardens near the Monument. His tiny HUD in the corner of his hood gave showed his team's bio-signs, and he was glad to see that they were all alive and on the move. However, while checking his HUD, he didn't check were he was sliding, and he went right on to a bounce pad. He was thrown very high, and since his rocket was busted from the crash landing on the mountain, so he flewup and landed on the Monument's shoulder with his shield under him. Luckily, he didn't slide off the edge, and managed to open up his slightly crushed backpack and get out an apple. He ate it while staring at the once pround Venture Explorer as it hovered in the air.OOC: I'm back! I know it has been a while, and this is definitley not my best post, but I will try to be active in this RPG. Peace out, and open for interaction.

OOC:

Name: Bridge CatharFaction: AssemblyClass: EngineerSkills: He is competent in a support role, constructing turrets to push Stromlings back and tending to his teammates.Biography: Bridge was recruited into the Nexus Force in the Spring of 2012, choosing to specialise as an engineer. His climb up the ranks has been slow at best, due to a lack of confidence in his own abilities. He was stuck in Rank 1 for a very long time. A rather fortunate incident involving a monkey, a pair of Stromlings and a cake having been set on fire gave him the necessary confidence boost, and he shot up the ranks, having only recently attained Rank 3 at the age of 19. He's a very...strange individual, as if he sees the world through a different lens. He tends to prioritise things differently to others.

IC:

Bridge's new gear felt pretty good on him. It felt nice to see the world through the eyes of a Rank 3 Engineer. It was a rank that he earned, and he was proud of himself for that, if nothing else. All he had to do now was sit and wait until an adventuring opportunity presented itself. The Nimbus Station was actually pretty peaceful. Members of the Nexus Force went about their daily business, or else took in the scenery of the station. Here, it seemed nothing could go wrong. He didn't want to repeat the incident that made him rise in rank. That poor cake had been ruined.

Will be writing stories shortly-Watch this space.

OOC: I'd like to apologize too. While I have been busy (and still am and will be), a lot has been me putting this off for other projects. I'm going to put some serious effort into posting this fall and make this a higher priority than it has been. Hopefully you guys will hang on long enough for this to be successful.

And I agree with sandboxing it for now. The less you guys need to rely on Jacks and I (clearly the most reliable people around when it comes to this RPG /sarcasm), the easier it will be for you guys to play.

I'll also add this takes place several days after the end of the Venture Explorer mission.

IC:

The dark orange rocket approached the launchpad slowly before touching the ground effortlessly. Alissa Kahn climbed out of the rocket slowly, tucking her battle worn helmet underneath her arm.

A welcome change of scenery, I suppose. Alissa mused. After spending days at Nimbus Station and Nexus Tower recovering from her wound on the Venture Explorer. The launchpad that connected Nimbus Station to the dangerous and Maelstrom-infested Gnarled Forest matched the large trees that surrounded it in height, surrounding the pad in a sea of green leaves. In the far east, Alissa could see the massive cliff near the Ravine scraping the heavens.

Alissa walked down the ramp leading to the earth. The world seemed to dim as she went under the shade of the trees. At base of the the launchpad was a Venture League grunt, scanning the area. He caught sight of Alissa descending from the launchpad and saluted.

"Kahn?" the grunt asked.

"That would be my name," Alissa responded.

"Yes, well. I am Hugo First, Venture League Grunt. I think you're the last one I'm supposed to see off, so..." He glanced around. "Let's get going, shall we?

"Sure." Alissa shrugged. The two Nexus Force operatives moved down the jungle path and made their way to the Ravine.

"I was instructed to ask about your arm," First noted. "Er...how is it, I guess?"

"It's still sore, but at least I can use it now." Alissa said. "The higher ups told me that whatever you guys are having me do here won't be too much of strain. Are they correct?"

"Right, yes. Your purpose." They reached the edge of the Ravine. For all Alissa knew, falling down the massive crevice would be a never-ending experience. There was evidence that a bridge used to connect both sides of the Ravine at one point, but had been long destroyed.

"Still haven't repaired this?" Alissa asked curtly. "It's been like this for three years."

"Er, no," First said sheepishly, looking down at his feet. "We've been occupied and-"

"It doesn't matter,," Alissa interrupted. The inefficiency of the Venture League members occupying Gnarled Forest was not her concern. She looked across the Ravine and saw stone spire with a bounce pads built on it near her side of the Ravine.12The spir Alissa shrugged, took a few steps back before launching into a run before jumping off the cliff.

"Hey!" First called anxiously. Alissa ignored him as she landed on the spire. She walked toward the bounce pad calmly, which flung her on to a cliff on the southern wall of the Ravine. A few short jumps later, she had reached the other side.

She waited impatiently for Hugo First as he joined her. Although his visor guarded his face, she could clearly see him frowning. "Not much of a people person are you?

"No, I am not," she said plainly. "Can we get a move on. Why do they need me here?"

"Right, hear the sounds of battle?" First asked. Alissa raised an eyebrow before the sounds of gunfire and clanking metal echoed down the cave that connected the Ravine to the Maelstrom Trench. Alissa shrugged.

"Okay, the Nexus Force is fighting the Maelstrom at a trench. Infected with Maelstrom. And...?"

First sighed. "Good point. There's been a spike in...'Maelstrom aggressiveness'. They're ganging up and trying to push into the passages and areas free of the Maelstrom. We reckon it's retaliation against the whole Venture Explorer thing. Come see."

First led Alissa down the cave. As they reached the end of the cave, she was surprised to see a wall had been constructed that blocked off the Maelstrom Trench. On the Maelstrom's side, hordes of Stromlings were rushing the wall, attempting to destroy or climb over it, only to be shot down by Assembly turrets or Nexus Force units or Pirates guarding the wall.

"They're pushing for the Ravine?" Alissa asked.

"That's what it looks like. And then the launchpad, presumably. They reach the launchpad, they cut off Gnarled Forest and make it harder for us to help the Pirates."

"What about the Pirate Camp? Isn't there a launchpad there?"

"Yeah, but the same thing is happening down there. The little buggers swarm up Brig Rock and try to climb up the cliff and attack the pirates. These guys have never been this organized in their assaults, even with those smarter Stromlings leading them. Every time we destroy one wave, five minutes later the next wave has spawned and ready to rush us. The whole thing is a nightmare. We got Paradox guys here trying to sort out the cause of this spike. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this soon before we have a real problem."

"So where do you want me?" Alissa asked, glancing into the Maelstrom Trench, where she watched the Nexus Force fight viciously against the Stromlings. She had a bad feeling in her gut.

"Heh, er. I may have been wrong before," First smiled nervously. "In addition to the camp and here, the Stromlings are attempting to take Crocodile Corner and Elephant Escarpment. Crocodile Corner is so far out of reach for most Stromlings and with the high-ground advantage we have there, they have no chance of breaking through. The Elephant Escarpment. however has the least amount of defenses at the moment due to it being right between here and the Pirate Camp and has to face an onslaught from both Brig Rock and here at the Trench. They (not me) want you to fight your way in there and help defend it until we can put a stop to this."

Alissa felt like the pain in her arm had amplified a thousand times. She gritted her teeth together. "Great," she remarked coldly.

OOC: Feel free to join Alissa, I suppose. I'll try to keep up.

OOC:
Personally, I didn't think having a story arc was a bad idea. But when a story arc lasts for nearly half a year, which is more than double the length of most contest, one starts to get bored with it. To top it off, we only had a week to develop our characters before the arc began, during which time we couldn't at all, because it was all fighting.

I have been waiting to do this personal story arc since the game began.

Also, are we ever going to have people promoted to Elite Rank?

Cue my longest RP post ever.

IC: Alexander Black
In Black's apartment in Nexus Tower, one of the only ones that normal Nexus Force members were allowed to use, his landline began to ring. Black slowly got up from the couch, where he was watching a race with Grimpen, Formigan and Storm, and picked up the receiver.

"Hello?"

"This is Alexander Black, correct?"

"Um, yeah, it is. Why?"

"Meet me at Club Station Alpha. Go to the top floor of one of the secondary, side floating buildings. Come alone."

The line went silent. Black put the phone down and turned to his friends. He said goodbye and walked to his balcony, getting on the rocket he kept there. He arrived at Club Station Alpha, getting there, and finding the top floor.

He arrived to see a man in a lab coat. For some reason, Black was wearing his Space Marauder armor, which he hadn't been wearing as he had been watching the race in his house. He had just put on the armor as an instinct.

IC: Rage
Rage dropped his jaw in shock at who he saw in front of him. He grabbed Black inside their shared mind and pulled his brother down to the Sea of Memories, which constantly lapped against the Island of Thought. Rage said,

"You must know who that man is, brother."

And he pulled them into the memories, showing Black something that he had drowned out and forgotten because of the sheer trauma of the event. It was how his arm had been changed by the Maelstrom, forever mutated.

IC: Alexander Black [FLASHBACK]
Black shot at the Stormlings on Crux Prime with his gun, still a separate part of him and not fused into him with the horrendous nature of the Maelstrom. A Spiderling charged his, and he quickly dispatched it with his grenades and rockets. He stood over the kill, when five shapes appeared around him.

They were dressed in a pure black armor, and then charged Black. He tried to fight them off, but soon the overwhelmed him and knocked him out, knocking him unconscious. They dragged him to a lab under the crust of the planet shard, and secured him to a table that was propped up in the air.

Black awoke and looked in front of him. His arms were secured to the table, and a man was standing in front of him, holding a syringe filled with a glowing purple gas, akin to the Maelstrom, but brighter. He turned to Black, with many leaders in suits watching over the lab behind an elevated glass wall.

Black realized he was still holding his gun when he felt the the prick of the syringe in his left arm. He screamed in pain, not because of the poke of the needle, but because the Maelstrom was now flowing in his arm.

The scientist stepped back and punched in some observations into the computer. He then turned to Black and looked at him, and then sat down in a chair. He began to talk to Black, describing what had just happened.

"I have just injected you with a synthetic version of the Maelstrom. This will be resistant to purification, and as long as certain devices of ours are active, immune to control of the Maelstrom. It will allow us to create a super Stromling soldier that will fight for us. It took us ages to perfect this strain of the the chaotic Imagination, and every test subject before you has perished, consumed by the Maelstrom."

Black's eyesight faded, and he found himself on an island, raised high above the sea, a sea that appeared to stretch on for eternity. The island was perfectly circular, and in the middle, there was a raised platform. Small, tiny wisps of Maelstrom floated around the place, and they began to form into a shape that was identical to Black, but corrupted with the Maelstrom.

Then, there was a bright flash, and then a third Black appeared, this one glowing red with white Space Marauder armor. It blasted back the corrupted Black, and climbed onto the pedestal, taking control of Black's body.

IC: Rage [FLASHBACK]
Maelstrom exploded from Rage's arm, shattering the first of the restraints. He moved his arm and fired at the other restraints, destroying them. The scientist that had injected Black fled, climbing into an elevator.

Nexus Force soldiers burst into the facility at that time, surging in, fighting against the dissidents that had turned Black's arm into Maelstrom. Rage screamed out, and purple flames came from his arm, which was fused to his gun now.

The flames enveloped the leaders of the dissidents, burning them and killing them. The flames then melted all of the machines, including the one keeping the Maelstrom from controlling the arm. Grimpen tackled Rage, and screamed at him.

"What are you doing, Black? This isn't like you!"

"I'm not Black. I am Rage."

Rage shrugged off Black's friend, and grabbed parts, creating two nanonbot factories, which he proceeded to integrate into his armor sets, into the two colorations Black carried with him normally- the dark set and the light set.

Then, a Nexus Force operative ran up to Rage, and slammed a rag into Rage's face. Rage breathed in the chemicals, and fell asleep. He was carried back to the Tower, where tests where performed upon his arm.

IC: Alexander Black

"You kept this from me... WHY?"

"For good reason. The same experience that I just showed you caused your anger to become so great it developed its own personality."

Black raised his left arm, and a laser of Maelstrom came from it, colliding with Rage, knocking the embodiment of anger back. Rage's nanobots formed into a jetpack, and he soared up to the top of the island. He stepped onto the platform to take control of the body.

IC: Rage
The scientist was saying something.

"I'm very sorry about infecting you. This syringe will perfect the synthetic Maelstrom and expel all natural Maelstrom from you, as well as leaving you immune to being controlled by the natural Maelstrom."

Rage took it, and nanobots covered, and then disappeared into the armor. Rage shouted for the scientist to run, and he did so.

IC: Alexander Black
Black grabbed Rage and pulled him off of the pedestal. He began to push Rage down into the rock, which began to envelope him. Rage looked up to see Corruption standing behind Black smiling. Rage gave in, and was buried within the rock.

Black then stood upon the pedestal, embracing Corruption as his new voice of reason.

IC: Debrik

Derik looks at the crash on top of the pile of defeated stromlings already turning back into maelstrom. He could only wait and hope his vision has been avoided, but with his visions, nowone could ever truly be sure.

"oh, sure! not like I just crushed an ARMY of stromling things to clear a path for you to land on or... or...uh... any...thinnng...."

Debrik collapses onto the handlebars, totally drained.
