RPG: Castles in the Air

Peace has come to the land of Albion! At last, after near three decades of shedding blood and vicious infighting the land has once again fallen under the rule of a king, finally putting an end to the Great Civil War of Succession.

The war was begun when the old King Leo Mathias died with no clear heir, his only son killed in a battle with the trolls in the west. As soon as his head could no longer bear the crown it seemed every house, clan and banner-lord leapt up to nominate a head of their own, as years of marriage and breeding had left many with a just and equal claim to the throne. Knight fought knight, man-at-arms fought man-at-arms. Crops died untended in their fields, homesteads burnt, great castles were broken to rubble. For some thirty years great Albion was cursed with this madness of greed and rage but the cure has come, and his name is Lionel.

Lionel Caerwyn of the ancient and noble house of Caerwyn, was but an infant babe when the Great War first started. An infant babe with a claim through his mother's blood and a father callous enough to believe he could control the crown through his son if only that son could inherit. However the father did not anticipate how long the war would drag out for, nor that a wasting sickness would take him before his plans could come to fruition. His training of the child left Lionel a cunning adversary in the field of battle and in political manoeuvring, and his early demise meant the boy inherited none of his coldness. The ability to both charm and strategise twinned in one champion made him a force to be reckoned with; what rivals he could not rally to his own cause with words of flattery he could crush with sheer military might. It took thirty years, but with the signing of the Treaty of Aldendan removing the last of the legitimate claimants Lionel Caerwyn could truly call himself King. Officially recognised by all major parties, he began reinstating the Crown's Peace, the ancient Pax Corona, an attempt to restore peace to the land and remove any last threats to his reign.

For you see, signing a treaty does not make every problem magically vanish. Bandits that swarmed the lands in times of war still prey on the weak, the remnants of broken armies roam far and wide in search of conquest, the ever-present threat of the trolls looms as it always will in west…and in his last mountain fastness the vengeful Bat Lord plots the downfall of all Caerwyns...

Lords of the Realm

Lionel Caerwyn, King of the Realm, Lord of Gold and Glory.

He claimed the throne through the blood of his mother, the old king's cousin, and secured it through conquest. He rules the realm now from the great citadel of Watsmaet, his mind turned to the task of enforcing the Pax Corona and ensuring his own succession so a second war will not break out should his rule be ended. Upon taking the throne he dropped his own house sigil of a green fire-drake and took up that of the old king; a lion, proud and crowned. It is this sigil his house-knights and bodyguards wear, while the knights who bear the lone crown sigil are dispatched across the land to bring law and peace.

Willem Caerwyn, the Earl Wyvern, Lord of Plain and Plunder.

Younger brother of King Lionel, and inheritor of the green fire-drake sigil that lends him the title Earl Wyvern. Always considered 'the spare' by the elder Lord Caerwyn he did not receive as much instruction in conduct and warfare, making him a more impetuous and reckless sort of fellow than his reserved and calculating brother. Lionel is smart enough to recognise such traits as useful and effective in some circumstances, making the two close companions despite their differing humours. For his aid in the Great War Lionel awarded Willem lordship over the flatlands of Estfallan, famed for both its extensive farmlands and occasional piracy from the port town of Darkharbour and its castle, Dragonsmouth (ancestral seat of the Caerwyns)

Hossler Vahnn, the Black Falcon, Lord of Storm and Snow.

A hard man, hard and cold like the northern mountains over which he holds sway. He was one of the few great lords not to lay a claim to the throne of Albion, instead lending his support - and army - to Lionel. Since the men of Gryshire, Hossler's province, long ago mixed with the Viking raiders of the far off icy islands they are strong and doughty warriors, and their support was key in several of Lionel's earlier victories. Yet he has asked for little reward, still content with keeping his own province safe. His castle is Falcon's Roost, high in the Gargrim mountains bordering the Blasted Wastes.

Danaus Milkweed, Warden in the West, Lord of Stone and Shield.

The Milkweed clan have always held in the harsh lands of Marsokk, where the Marbrantt mountains both limit troll attacks to simple raids but turn the lands in their shadow to swamp and marsh with floods of meltwater. Danaus was one of the first lords to claim Albion as his own in the War of Succession, and in truth probably has the better claim than Lionel, but his heart went out of it when his eldest son was killed in a skirmish with the Black Falcon's troops. He withdrew to his fortress of Aenkia until swayed to join Lionel's cause through bribery and homage. This may make he and Hossler allies, but in truth he has never forgiven the Falcon for his son's death. There is just little he can do about it at present.

He holds the title Warden in the West as it is his armies that stem the trolls from advancing over the mountains into Albion proper, a constant state of warfare which makes even the youngest man in his legions a grizzled veteran. Anyone bearing his blue fire-drake sigil will receive honour and respect wherever they go.

Felix D'Warrow, Earl of the Under-Hall, Lord of Steel and Silver.

In ancient times the D'Warrow house were the butt of every joke. Their territories at Nethcross were risibly worthless, full of rocky outcroppings, steaming bogs and land salted by sea winds. These jokes stopped when attempts at digging to fertile ground beneath the salt and bogs uncovered vast seams of mineral wealth. Iron for swords and armour, silver for coins and wealth, coal for fires and forges, even clusters of gems like the eggs of some terrible bird. The D'Warrows became rich and powerful off this, adopting their current sigil of the double axes to symbolise the mining efforts and weaponry it produced. Since the wetland moors of Nethcross could support no castle above them, they built the Under-Hall within their mines and tunnels. No army has dared to siege it in the hundreds of years it has stood.

Heironymous Basil, the Bat Lord, Lord of Wrath and Ruin.

The house of Basil has always claimed direct descendant from an ancient line of kings that predated Leo Mathias and his kin, and it was this former glory Heironymous sought during the Great War. It is believed this was down to the urgings of his consort Willa, a witch rumoured to be from the Blasted Wastes, whose words were like poison into his ears. His radical claims gained no support amongst the other lords, and his own province of Nichtblud, squeezed between the warriors of Gryshire and the veterans of Marsokk, stood little chance against the forces arrayed against it. While Heironymous himself still lives, most of his lands and holdings were given away to Danaus Milkweed as part of Lionel's settlement with the Warden in the West, leaving the self-styled Lord of Wrath and Ruin largely powerless and forgotten. That is, until he hit upon the notion of gathering the scattered bands of forgotten armies to his sole remaining fortress of Dunnor, arming them under his black bat sigil and sending his so-called Fright Knights to pillage and loot…

The Realm of Albion

albion_15-08-50.png

Watsmaet: Where the Kings have ruled since time immemorial. A great citadel or marble and granite standing on a mighty spar of rock where the Dragon River running from Darkharbour and the Broadwater from the Gargrim mountains cross each others' paths.

Dragonsmouth: A fortress originally built to guard against attacks from the river, and to launch piratical attacks on the continent beyond, Dragonsmouth actually gets its name from the immense carving of a dragon's head over the main entrance which was used to spew boiling water on any would be attackers (which also spawned the Caerwyn crest). Confusion over time, however, has led to the belief that it is because it sits at the mouth of the Dragon River, never mind that the Dragon River wasn't called as such until this belief.

Falcon's Roost: A construction of impenetrable stone built into the very mountains it sits on. Few in history have been foolish enough to attempt to storm the Roost, and their idiocy has been remembered long after their names have been forgotten. It looks out over the Blasted Wastes, but what exactly it was supposed to guard against in those long forgotten days has been lost to the annals of time.

Aenkia: Also known as the Shield-Fort, for a pair of reasons: its is the greatest bastion of defence against troll incursions from the western lands, and long ago one of the Milkweed lords started the tradition of hanging the shields of the fallen upon its eastern wall as a sign of respect and defiance. Said eastern wall is now entirely covered with shields, a dazzling array of blue fire-drakes glaring towards the troll lands.

The Under-Hall: After years of renovations, extensions and improvements, nobody is quite sure where the Under-Hall ends and the Nethcross mines begin. The surface entrance is not much to look at though, being a simple motte and bailey. A determined army would have no trouble breaking into the Under-Hall proper. No, the real problem would be getting out again

Dunnor: In the craggy lands of Nichtblud, there was never going to be much space for a castle on the scale of Watsmaet, so the forts there were always very tall and oddly narrow. Dunnor is no exception, looking like some strange rocky arm reaching for the sky. While not the ancestral home of the Basils, it has always been their fall-back and last refuge. You can feel the paranoia leaking through the architecture, as any wall or floor could be a trap to discourage invaders.

Blasted Wastes: Lying north of Gryshire and Falcon's Roost, legend says this was the home of a mighty sorcerer, king of all he surveyed. It is this sorcerer the Basil family claims descendant from, as it happens. He ruled with black magic and necromancy, which slowly poisoned his land until nothing living remained that wasn't sustained by his dark power. It is said a good wizard came and challenged the sorcerer, and that their battle reduced the land to nothing more than the scorched and toxic wasteland it is today. Nothing dwells here but the dead and, it is said, the vanquished sorcerer's apprentices. While there are mages and hedge-wizards still left in the world, no-one equals the power of the two titans that fought here.

The Troll Lands: Nobody quite knows how the trolls, green in skin and long in fang, came to dwell to the west of Albion, whether they came in boats or walked across a since-sunken land bridge. Nor does anybody particularly care; they're more focused on how to keep them there. The trolls are too many and too dug-in to be driven out if all the armies of Albion were gathered together, but they can at least be stopped by the Marbrantt mountains and the long line of Wardens in the West.

Lost Clans

The Black Bulls: While the land was without king, the fortress of Watsmaet was held by Cedric the Bull, old king Leo's Marshall-at-Arms. While the infighting began, Cedric saw how petty and quarrelsome these lords were, and how pathetic their claims, and decided to simply take the crown himself through strength of arms. It was essentially what the rest of them were doing anyway after all. His ruthlessness and strict discipline in his troops won him many victories, but were in the end what cost him everything. When seeking to conquer the province of Banteras, swathed as it was in the Old Forest, he decided that he wouldn't risk being bled dry in constant ambushes and skirmishes and simply ordered the forest set alight, razing the city within. The Burning of Banteras became infamous, and more gratuitously violent with each retelling, drawing the ire of every noble family in Albion. Cedric was lured into a battle which turned out to be a trap which left him outnumbered and outmanoeuvred. His army was broken and Cedric himself hanged from the blackened remains of the oldest oak in the Old Forest. The remains of his army took up a black bull as their design, a remind roof Cedric's great strength and famed horned helmet, and wander the land as swords-for-sale or vicious marauders.

The Wolfpack: In times of war, thieves and bandits grow brave through the absence of law. In the midst of battle a soldier's heart might be so gripped by fear that he turns from his friends and flees. These are the fellows who make up the Wolfpack; courageous thieves and cowardly warriors. Lost souls who joined swords because the alternative was no home or food. In the Wolfpacks you might find a exile from Nethcross rubbing shoulders with a deserter from Marsokk while breaking bread with a criminal from Gryshire. They are of all provinces and yet none, as mismatched in skills as they are in clothing and weapons. A raggedy band of outcasts who prey on the weak like the wolves they take their name from.

The Forestmen: On the surface the forestmen who fight under the stag sigil seem to share many similarities with the Wolfpack. They originate from many provinces, follow no lord or king and occasionally rob and raid from others. But they are no wandering band of misfits, instead they believe that the forests of Albion are rightfully theirs, that they should be allowed to dwell in them unmolested and tax whomever they wish for passage through them in what they consider a noble cause. They hold this to be true as, for the most part, the Forestmen are the survivors of the Burning of Banteras. The forests are the home they have taken since their own was lost, and no king or his Pax Corona will drive them out.

Rules

1. All BZP Rules apply. Obviously.

2. No godmodding. This means no killing whole cities of enemies in a single go, no pulling deus ex machina solutions out of nowhere, no developing sudden skills never displayed before, and so on.

3. Don't have your character somehow know something that he would only have learned if you, the player, had told him, aka metagaming.

4. I realise this is a game where pretty much everyone is going round with a variety of very sharp and pointy objects with the intent of hitting other people with them, but try not to get too graphically violent, okay?

5. Related to the above, don't kill someone else's character without their permission

6. To play, use IC, meaning In Character to describe events happening to your character, and OOC, meaning Out Of Character, for things you as the player are saying

7. There are currently no limits on characters. Its a big world, go nuts

I might as well do the first IC.

IC: Meredith Black

Meredith lowered her crossbow and smiled at what she had done. The arrow that had been fired was poisonous, and it's victim was already started to twitch. She turned and started to run away from the troll encampment, knowing what would happen to her if she was caught. The fact that it was night out helped her escape. She arrived back Aenkia and slipped inside. She walked into her brother's room and sat down on a stool. He looked up from a book he was reading and said, "How did it go?" Meredith said, "Good. The captain is dead." Even though Alexander had his arm chopped off, he was still a great strategist. This allowed him to remain someone of a relative degree of power. Meredith said, "Good night." and left for her own room. She got in collapsed onto her bed.

Name: William Rickon.

Gender: Male

Appearance: Tall, thin, fair hair, green eyes. Wears the remnants of a wool cloak.

Personality: Quick witted, stubborn, and argumentative. Likes to spend time just thinking and reading, when he can find a book.

Alliegance: None, as of now.

Weaponry: A steel rapier that was passed down through his family, with a strange, glowing fragment of stone he found in the ruins of a huge, ruined castle.

Skills: Swordplay, very basic all around magic.

Biography: Will grew up in the far reaches of the blasted wastes with his mother and father, whose families had been survivors of a great war. Living there was a challenge, and soon his parents passed away when he was about fourteen. He remembered tales of a land unspoiled by anything in the blasted wastes, and started slowly making his way there. Along the way, he found scraps of parchment and broken carvings in the same ruins he found the stone in. He stayed there for a while, piecing together the broken carvings and shredded parchment until they were legible, and found that they were carvings explaining magic. After more searching, Will found enough of a spell book to attempt to start a fire with magic, and it worked. He learned about many other spells, becoming fairly powerful but not having many spells at his disposal. He hopes to find people more skilled in magic to learn from, once he gets out of the wastes.

Falcon's Roost = Grey dot on map. Also, from what I can tell the Roost doesn't have walls.

IC: Matthew Formigan

Formigan looked out of his window and saw a small shape moving in the Blasted Wastes. Matt ran out into the Wastes and saw a tall figure in a tattered wool cloak. He walked up and greeted him. He said, "My name is Matthew Formigan, dabbler in the mystic arts. And you?"

OOC: My bad, I keep thinking of Winterfell as Falcon's Roost.... my bad.

IC: Will started. He had not heard a voice in so long. "I am William Rickon, and I also practice magic." Noting the blue orb on his staff, Will figured he was an elementalist. "So, what magic do you practice? Wind? Ice?" He knew from an old carving about how magic worked, and how certain objects transmitted certain powers better.

"I use the art of ice. I am quite proficient in that one branch. Should we head back to the Roost? It will surely be more comfortable than out here." He motioned back to the Roost. He then looked at Will and asked, "Do you specialize in one sort of magic?"

IC: "Not really. I can do most elemental magic, but can also influence animals, some telekinesis, telepathy, and a tiny bit of necromancy. I'm strong in magic, but I don't know a lot of spells in one area of magic. Also, do you know what this could possibly be?" Will tapped the glowing stone on the end of his rapier. "When I do magic, it seems to pulsate and give me extra strength."

IC: Rick McFly

He stalks a troll in the Troll Land. Waiting to make his move. The troll looks around, seeing if no one is following him. The troll runs trying to make it to the camp. Rick follows it through the tree tops of the Evergreen forest. The troll stops to catch his breath, then Rick strikes from above. Cutting his throat, then a fatal stab in the chest. It falls and Rick checks to see what cargo it have been holding. He finds a map to an unknown location. He then heads back into the trees, escaping from sight.

OOC: I have around two spells in each category, one defense and one offense.

IC: "Yes, let's. I haven't found a new book in ages." Will waited for him to go to the library, since he didn't know where it was. "By the way, where did you learn magic? I found some ancient scrolls and carvings in some ancient, huge castle back in the wastes, but where did you learn yours?"

IC: Matthew FormiganFormigan chuckled. "The very place we are heading. The library of the Falcon's Roost." The duo headed back to the Roost and entered the library. Matthew went over to one section marked 'Magic' and started to pull out books. He found one ancient text labeled 'Magical Items'. He tossed it to Will and said, "Might be in there." He sat down and said, 'Not every day that you see someone that has an affinity for so many types of magic. Most only have an talent in one or two, if they even can connect with Mana." Formigan picked up one book titled 'The Art of the Storm: Weather Magic'. He sat down and said, "I'm trying to teach myself a weather magic. I have a rudimentary accord with that type of magic." IC: Bengamin GrimpenGrimpen walked into his room in Under-Hall and yelled, "Where is my dinner!" Jack Storm walked in, holding a platter filled with many types of food and drink. Grimpen began to eat and said through a mouth filled with meat, "Shine my armor. I want to be able to literally stun my enemies. And while your at it, sharpen my axe." Storm bowed, and started to fulfill his master's orders. Grimpen continued to eat, and then went to his bed.

IC: "I would suggest starting with a branch of one of your current specializations. Try water first, as it is a branch of ice. I learned that the more destructive elements are harder to control, such as fire and weather." Will started poring over the various items in his book, until something he said earlier came to his attention. "Matthew, I lied about Necromancy. The most I can summon is a mouse. Oh yeah, and could you maybe teach me some more advanced ice magic?"

OOC: It took some time, (About 30 minutes of thinking while doing other things) but I've finally got a good enough character concept that I'd like to use.

Name: Blake, 'Bard with a Blade'. Real last name unknown.

Gender: Male

Appearance: He wears a forest green tunic, with a deep purple undershirt, along with tan pants and simple leather boots. It's all worn quite well, patched and repaired in most every place you'd think to get ripped, and then some. He's got dirty blond hair, the bangs can just cover his brown eyes if he tilts his head downwards. Average height and weight, with a neither spindly or chunky build. He's got a scar running across the right edge of his mouth, which is curved into a perpetual smile.

Personality: Blake is one who lives for adventure, and then finds a way to sum it up and embellish it into a grand tale which he'll happily sing to the next crowd he finds. Whatever fear he has is deeply hidden at most times, even against a hungry pack of trolls. Friendly, sociable, a jokester: these all describe him. Even in battle he's cracking jokes and using a slight of hand to gain the upper hand: Until you hurt someone who he sees as his friend. Or a lady, those always need to be avenged. Then he's silent and deadly, striking without mercy but for the final blow, when he'll spare one's life if he feels they deserve it.

Alliegance: N/A

Weaponry: A lute, if it counts as 'Weaponry', and one shining steel blade christened 'Rebirth'.

Skills: He is proficient at card tricks and other slights of hand, and can make up a song about anything is but a few minutes. His swordplay skills aren't lacking, however, and those who've faced him will tell you to watch for his tricks. He's got a way with words, could convince a crowd that he fit an entire cow into that chicken-sized box: Even when the box is clucking.

Biography: Not much is known about Blake's childhood, or really anything about him at all up until he simply appeared at Watsmaet's gates, singing and playing the lute of his. Since then he's been to every major castle, other than Dunnor, spreading his tales and songs and card tricks, making a living off of tips and hospitality that people are willing to give once they've heard a song or two. Along the way he's supposedly fought at least 5 dragons, 100 trolls, (twice) that evil wizard that lived in the Blasted Wastes, and just about anything else that people want to hear about. They're all tales, and everyone knows it, but what harm is there in listening to a good ballad every once in a while?

Why am I the only one with PCs aligned to lords? Also, Flaredrick, in case you want to track down Jack, his allegiance to Basil is secret, he is in the Under-Hall, and Ben Grimpen is effectively his bodyguard.

IC: Matthew Formigan

Formigan replied, "I know what you mean with trying to learn water first, but my connection to magic is in the categories of ice and weather. I'm not sure about teaching you, but here is the book I used to learn my spells." He handed Rickon a bound book titled, 'The Coldest Magic.' He then said, "Any luck with your stone."

Rick made it to the town. But it actually wasn't a town, it was a swamp. In the swamp lay a castle, known as Under-Hall. He finds a sign that says "Under-Hall." "Under-Hall, what a strange name for this place." He says entering the castle. "Now where's the pub? I could go for a nice scotch right now."

IC: Will accepted the book. "Actually, yes. It says that it was the stone of a wizard in olden times, and contained many mystical powers. It doesn't say much about the powers, except that prolonged exposure to the stone can unlock basic magical abilities. And if this is just a fragment, then imagine what the whole stone could do." Will examined "The Coldest Magic". "Wow, this is very different from the carvings I found, and actually has less spells, if I'm not mistaken, I can't cast most of the ones I found at the tower, but I definitely found more powerful and numerous varieties of spells near where I found the stone."

IC: Matthew Formigan

Formigan raised his eyebrows in surprise. 'The Coldest Magic' had a wide variety of spells, so if the tower had more, there were many spells there. Formigan said, "I think we should go to this tower you talk of. Maybe we could find some more spells or artifacts. You know, I have been wondering, are you aligned with any faction or one of the Lords of Albion?"

IC: "Well, funny story about that. I actually have no allegiance because I have been in the blasted wastes my whole life. I will think on it and see. And going to the tower would be good, we could move all the scrolls I fixed over here. They should all be safe in a vault under the wreckage. That is where I left them, at least. The tower is around two to three days walk from here, so we should get provisions and rest up so we can start at first light tomorrow. Are you up for it?"

IC: Rick enters the pub, looking for an available seat in the bar. He sits down by the bar and the bartender asks, "What will it be stranger." "A scotch and bourbon please." He says to the bartender. "So what brings you to Under-Hall." "Just passing by." He drinks his shot of bourbon. "I'm heading north, see what trouble I can get myself into."

And he will not know until a crucial event happens in the story of Jack Storm and Benjamin Grimpen. To have him know would be meta-gaming.

IC: Matthew Formigan

"Yes, I am ready. I we should leave at daybreak tonight, and ride some horses. I will go begin to pack." He got up and left the library, stopping at his room to get a bag. He went to the kitchen and began to food of all sorts in it. He then went to a supply room and picked up some blankets, and regular camping supplies. He then walked back to the library to find that Will had not gotten up. He sat back down, and picked up the book on Magical Items, as well as picking up a couple of spare, empty journals.

IC:

"Oh really eh. Don't try to get yourself killed now," "Don't worry, I won't" He says drinking his scotch. The bartender looks around, looking at the people in his pub. It's probably somewhere around midnight, cause there is only ten people in the pub. Excluding Rick and the bartender. "Say you look like an adventurous fellow. How about I give you a pass to Aenkia. It will let you go into the city with ease, and while your over there, find a friend of mine. His name is Horatio Grager, tell him to give you a "case full of trolls and fools." Rick looks at him strangely. "Okay, I will." He says finishing his shots and leaving the tip on the bar. He exits to find a place to stay.

IC: "If you are ready, we should go now." Will followed Matt to the stables, and each selected a mount. They rode out the gates, and started their journey into the wastes, Will following his memory to what had been his home for the past few months.

OOC: With horses, it would take about a day to reach the ruined castle.

IC: Matthew Formigan

Formigan loaded his supplies onto the horse and set out. He said, "Perhaps we should break in five hours. It would be a good time to get to sleep." The two began to ride. The night was dark, so Matthew lifted up his staff and said, "Etaerc gninthgil ot ekam thgil." His staff began to crackle with lightning, providing a small degree of lighting." He saw the Blasted Wastes as they were: empty and desolate.

OOC:

The magic I used is stolen from Zatara. So, it is written backwards.

OOC: Should we ask LoAB if that should be the default magic system? (written backwards)

IC: "Sounds good. And if you want a more efficient way to light up a place, I would suggest this. "Ria, etaerc llams thgil!" Will said in a commanding voice. A small, floating light popped into existence about five feet in front of and five feet above Will's face. It provided as much illumination as a good lamp. "That is a spell I learned, it isn't affiliated with any specific type of magic that I know of, but you should be able to do it." There was a crackling sound off to the left, and Will whipped his head in that direction just in time to see a black-robed person slip into the shadow. "It appears we are not alone."

OOC:

Well, it is simple and practical, we don't have to create new words for spells. We should ask, however.

IC: Benjamin Grimpen

A messenger burst into Grimpen's rooming and said, "Sir Grimpen! Some trolls have surfaced from the mines! They must have been there for ages!" Grimpen walked out of his bedroom and gravely said, "I was trying to sleep. Jack, where is my axe and armor?" Jack ran and gave Grimpen his weaponry and armor. Grimpen dawned the equipment and stood ready. His helmet had a groove shaped like a v, which a very oblique angle and three spike coming from the top. He started to walk through the halls of the Under-Hall, approaching the spot where the trolls were spotted.

IC: Matthew Formigan

Formigan said, "Etaerc a hsalf fo thgil!" A bright flash appeared and illuminated the entire area. In the short second where the flash appeared, Formigan saw a figure in cloak. He jumped off of his horse, ran over to the figure and said, "Ekam na eci tnaig!" Snowy winds began to fly from the orb on the top of his staff and began to form into a giant creature made of ice. The giant grabbed the arms of the cloaked figure and held him in the air. Formigan reeled over and said, "That is one of my more powerful spells. It drains a lot of mana from me."

IC: Jack Storm

Storm watched his boss leave the room, and ran out of Grimpen's rooming as silently as he could. He found a man and reached inside his robes. He said, "Do bats congregate in caves?" The man said, "No. Bats join together in wastes." Storm pulled a long cylinder out his robes. The man took the cylinder and unscrewed the top. He pulled out a scroll and said, "The bats show their gratitude." The man disappeared into the shadows, and Jack ran back to Grimpen's rooming. The handoff of the info had gone perfectly.

IC: "Wow. An Ice Giant, that takes some serious skill. Wait a moment... Matt, can you shield your mind? This one is a telepath. If you can, do so now. We will meet more strange, weak magical people, but this one actually has pretty strong psychic powers. I'll scan his mind." Will focused his thoughts and created a mental probe, reaching out to the psychic's mind. Finding no resistance, Will quickly looked through his memories, and found nothing evil. He was just unlucky to startle them. "Matt, release him. I forgot to tell you the most dangerous part of these lands, the people who have some magic. Keep on watch for them, and shield your mind, some have basic mind control."

IC: Matthew Formigan

Formigan said, "Release him." The golem of ice set the figure down, and the figure ran away. Matt said, "Tcetorp ym dnim morf detnawnu snoisurtni." He nodded to Will and got back on his horse. He pointed his staff at the golem and said, "Kaerb trapa otni lllams seciep." The golem shattered, and the two continued to move forward.

IC: Rick

Rick takes his sword at hand, preparing for anything that happens. Then some dog leaps towards him, mouth foaming and eyes red. He makes a quick slash across its abdomen. "This house must be haunted. There're mad dogs here, what else could happen." Then he here's the roars of the trolls. He heads outside to see the commotion.

IC: Blake (Under-Hall)

"Whyyyy 'ello there Mister Troll

Would you perhaps, like some coal?

You say no? Oh, the woe,

but if you can't see, you won't go past me!"

The 'Bard with a Blade' happily sung a song made up on the spot as he fought a troll, Rebirth shining in the torchlight as it deflected the troll's attacks and retaliated with some of its own, rapidly giving the troll minor cuts on his legs, arms, chest- even one very near his eyes that instead swept along his forehead. The troll had gained a hit or two on Blake, however, who had shallow gashes across his forearm (He forgot he had a shield and pulled back slightly too late) and his foot. (The troll had gone for a kneelopper, and Blake didn't jump high enough)

With a final "You won't go past me!" the bard knocked the troll's sword straight out of his hands and into another's head, but the hilt hit first so it didn't die instantly and instead just collasped, 'sleeping'.

"I'd go now, milady. It's not safe for one without a sword."

The woman he had been defending, a servent to one of the nobles by the looks of her, nodded before running off to the safer sections of the Under-Hall. Blake gave a smile at her back and turned to the trolls once more, shouting a challenge as a song to the trolls.

"Who of you now, giggling with mirth,

shall be next to meet the steel of Rebirth!?"

IC: Benjamin Grimpen

Grimpen raised his battle-ax and charged into the fray. The words, "For Lord D'Warrow!" echoed from his mouth, and he cleaved into the trolls. One snuck up on him and banged his sword against Grimpen's armor, but Grimpen merely chuckled. He turned and sliced the troll. His armor and axe was made of some of the strongest alloys that could be made. He noticed one troll whose armor designated him as a Captain. He raised his axe, bellowed at the top of his lungs, and charged.
