Mask of Time

Posted by Cederak , Aug 03 2012 · 188 views

Well, it only took me a few years of posting little bits at a time (as I used to be a much more active poster), but I finally hit the 4000 mark. And without the use of RPGs to help me along the way, I'll have you know! To commemorate that, I decided to post my first story in CoT. Check it out if you have some time.

In all the years of the BZP library, a critic club is now playing host to a contest. The Epic Critics Club to be precise. If reviewing multi-post works is your cup of tea and you'd like to be part of the wonderful epic review team here on BZP, then you should definitely check out the Become an Epic Critic Contest! More details in the link. Happy writing. :)

Pre-Pit Barraki, Gunblades, And You

Posted by Cederak , Jun 21 2012 · 258 views

Y'know that little banner in my sig with the bullets? That actually goes to an epic I'm trying to keep fairly close to canon, at least event-wise. I'm sure you already figured that out, but I wanted to take a second here to answer a couple questions about it. First off, it's not connected to any of my other epics. At all. So you can jump right in. Second, it's got six infamous warlords that just barely achieved domination of their universe, if not for a particular hypnosis-user among them. :P How awesome is that?

I think there are a fair number of BZPers that would've liked to see more of the Barraki before their mutation, before their imprisonment even. I'm one of them, curious enough about the Pre-Pit Barraki to write an epic about a particular time in the Matoran Universe's history where the League of Six Kingdoms reigned supreme. I will add that the story is not from their perspective, nor is it exactly about them, rather, I'm taking this in a roundabout "Forrest Gump-esque" direction with the story being told by this everyday, average sort of character that gets caught up in living out a dream. Yeah, no elemental powers, no Kanohi skills, just a biomech that wants some freedom in life and encounters some individuals with very interesting skills and intentions.

That's another thing I want to address: biomech. I'm not sure when I started using the word in place of "people," "person," "men," "women," etc. but it works for me. I haven't encountered it in anyone else's writing, but I know I'm not the first person to come up with the term.

Anyway, there's my pitch. If any of that sounds interesting, go read Cenotaphs.

Oh yeah, and there's gunblades. :D

Curse You E3!

I think I knew from the start that keeping up with E3 coverage would be something of a masochistic decision. The reason I say that is because 1.) Not only do none of those E3 games debut for a while, but 2.) There's nothing terribly interesting showing up for Xbox owners this summer. I suppose if I had a thing for football video games I'd be wrong, but that just isn't the case. So until the last vestige of summer rolls around with Fall of Cybertron, I think I'm going to be stuck replaying older titles. Actually, I still need to borrow Mass Effect 3 (mostly for the sake of having a stronger argument to a friend of mine that is still delusional enough to believe that game had a good ending) and "take Earth back" or some such thing.

If you're wondering how I know the storyline to a game I haven't played, that's also a masochistic story. I can't ignore spoilers. I don't know what it is, but they're just too tantalizing to pass up. It's the entire reason I know way too many particulars about The Dark Knight Rises and we still have about a month until that starts cramming pretty much everyone into theaters. And by "pretty much everyone" I mean: unless you're a die-hard Marvel fanboy, why wouldn't you see this movie? But with this gaming drought coming up, maybe I'll have some time to practice self-control with watching/reading spoilers in some kind of early 20th century psychological experiment. Hah, who am I kidding? I still have XBLA Minecraft.

So I'm A Premier Member Again...

And that means this area will be under construction for the next few days. Which is code for my procrastinating mind saying: it'll look nice when it looks nice. I think it's fair to say I've been mulling over this decision for several months now and, for some reason, I have this weird impatience thing about waiting for money to go from my bank account to my PayPal. I know, I could add the money in there at any time, wait a couple days, and boom, funds to go Premier. Why an interim of 48 hours seemed like such an impossibility for me is...well, ridiculous. And if you're thinking to yourself right now, "So wait. What finally spurred you to go Premier now?" Well, funny story. Someone who owed me money put sufficient funds into my PayPal. So this is partially their doing as well.

I wiped out the backlog from this blog a while back, but to anyone who remembers it under the title Citadel of Ancients, well, it's good to see you're back. Bionicle Quizzes are over, mostly because I have a lot of other things going on that I didn't at age 18. Scratch that. That's entirely why the quizzes are over. If you have a thing for lots of words, sentences, and paragraphs strung together to make these crazy things called "stories," you are in luck. I'm currently writing (well, the writing is almost done, so "posting" is probably a better word) a new epic titled Cenotaphs that later entries may pester you to read, because let's be honest, shameless plug abilities are part of the fun of a blog. I definitely didn't choose this because I missed polls.

So keep your eyes peeled for all sorts of changes headed to my blog soon and thanks for stopping in. :)

You Probably Have The Wrong Address

No? You're actually looking for Cederak? Formerly Toa Cederak? Oh, you don't remember me having that name? Well, that's for the best.

What can I say here that can't be found in my profile? Or rather, what do I want to say here that can't be found in my profile? I could've copy/pasted the "About Me" section here, but if you go ahead and click that profile link just above, you'll notice it's the only dark blue text on the page. Unless there's blue text in some advertisement that loads when you click the link. That is, unfortunately, out of my hands. Besides, what's a little effort on your part to check my profile? Labor builds character, or so I've heard. If anything, it's made me more than a little cynical at times. Hey wait, cynicism is a character trait!
