Last night I finally managed to have my Board of Review for Tenderfoot. Don't judge: I joined a year and a half ago, but lost at least half a year in missed meetings (due to issues outside Boy Scouts) and campouts I couldn't attend.
One of the questions asked to me by an adult leader of the troop during my Board of Review was, "What do you think isn't good about the troop?"
I thought for just a moment. "Well," I replied, "the meetings seem disorganized -- like, not everything scheduled to be done is getting done."
The adult leader nodded. "And whose fault do you think that is?"
Which was actually a difficult question. Who is at fault for the disorganization? I could say the Scout leaders, but they did their best, I'm sure. I could say the adult leaders, but that wasn't a good answer because, in my troop, the Scouts are supposed to run the meetings. I could say the other Scouts for being disorderly, but that was not a fixed constant.
So I replied the safest way I could.
"Mine," I said, "for not being in leadership."
"Good answer," replied the adult leader.
