Nintendo Should Think About Doing This...

Okay, so I was thinking recently about how nowadays there has been a wide appeal of devices that are have multiple features (Such as Smart Phones). While I never been a big fan of these things (I am kind of old fashion, especially when it comes to phones.), I do notice there could be a market out there for Nintendo involving it, especially for what I just thought of.

The idea is simply and actually kind of an old idea of Nintendo's just with new take on it, thanks to today's technology. I am not sure if anyone recalls the old Gamecube days, but Nintendo used to have a connection controller cable for you to attached your GBA to do stuff like transfer your Pokemon to the Pokemon Gamecube games or have your younger sibling help you in Wind Waker by playing the Tingle Games on their GBA, etc.

Well, my idea is to take this a step further than that with you being able to interlink the console and handheld wireless. So that if you were to leave your home and decide to play a game that is linkable to the console, your progress in it can be uploaded into console when you return home. Now you might be asking, but what games would really make use of this feature.

The first one that comes to mind for me is Wii Fit, which is a health based game, and with this feature within a handheld, you could leave your house with your handheld in your pocket and go for a run. Then come home, turn on the console, upload your progress from the handheld, and get the results of your workout for the day such as amount of calories burned, miles run, etc. If you ask me, I think that would be pretty cool because it would mean we are not just restrict to do this stuff at home, but rather we can travel with it and still make progress with it.

Really that's just the tip of iceberg of what they could do, if they allow the console and the handheld to link up like this. And I probably would ramble more examples of what they could do with this feature, but I got to go bed now as I got school in the morning. I appreciate you all reading about my idea though and I might add more examples of it later here. Alright, night, BZPers.

I think PlayStation has planned something like that for their new PSP. I'm not into portable gaming myself, but I can see how your idea would be good for the Wii.

Nintendo has been presented with the idea of a smartphone-like device before, and they keep turning it down.

The funny thing is, a smartphone might be just the thing they need to save their place in the handheld market. Back when the DS came out, mass-market smartphones were virtually nonexistent. Now that the iPhone and other such devices have dominated the market, the 3DS has tanked because it can't compete with Apple's device and its app store full of inexpensive games and other services. Nintendo really needs to keep up with the times if they want to save their profits. =/

Really? I didn't know that. Although it does not really seem like their thing (Nintendo at least has history of having games from handheld system connecting with console games.). Still it would be interesting to see one of gaming companies out there do it.

lol That would not be ideal considering the Wii is on its way to retirement since Wii U is coming and all. I was just using Wii Fit as an example of something that they could do with this feature.

That all depends on that they do when the Wii U is released; that might just come true. =P

True.

Uh...I was not suggesting that they make smartphone as personally I do not think Nintendo would do well in that market, especially considering how bad their internet connections have been for consoles and handhelds. No, what I was suggesting is that they add cool little extra features to the existing handheld device, the 3DS, such as allowing you make use of handheld for console games.

And really I think the main reason that 3DS tanked in sales had more to do with following two factors:

- The game release lineup was bad and very few games that people have been looking forward have been release at this point.

- A lot of people are expecting a new and better version of handheld to be release in a year or so (DS pretty much showed us that Nintendo has develop a habit of toying with their handhelds and re-release a new one. I personally never brought into this and I still have same original DS sitting on my desk at this very moment and have no intend of buying a new 3DS, if they do this as I expect they will.).

As for the reference to Apple, iPhones are not exactly cheap and at least with gaming handheld device, you generally do not have to pay a service fee per month. I mean yeah, I am aware there is market out there for it, which is why I mention as an example above. But I meant that Nintendo should try to make use of some features that Smartphones provided, not make Smartphones themselves.
