While it's good to honor troops, I still have trouble with the underlying support of war efforts.

You could... ummm... lay flowers on the graves of people who died while serving in the Peace Corps. There's not as many of them as dead soldiers, for obvious reasons, but I guess that's a way you could celebrate?
