#1 New York Times Bestseller/nanowrimo

That is what American Assassin is right now. And it was only released on the twelfth this month.   And let me tell you. It deserves it. Just finished reading it after getting it at that book signing on Wednesday [and with school and basketball, it wasn't easy to read it so quick -- but it kept me hooked, and I couldn't put it down]. Awesome lecture, too, that he gave. But anyway, back to the book itself.   I will say it wasn't quite what I expected. But it was amazing. It delved into Mitch Ra

Not exactly my favorite set, but not bad [William Furno definitely looks a lot better from DV's review]. Also my first time using a black background instead of white -- I'm still not pleased with some of the pics I took, but most turned out alright. Anyway, since I finished taking pics yesterday, I'll start on a review some time next week.   -Velox

Don't You Just Love Moments Like This?

:: ::  Well, today during one of my more boring classes, I started writing. It started out with just gibberish, but then it started evolving in a story, and soon I had blanked out my surroundings completely and I was focused on the story. After about ten minutes, I was done. I'll be posting it soon, but I still need to correct it and touch it up. For now, though, you guys can read it if you want [it's human-BIONICLE, hence the white armor (so an Ice Toa), and "Solus" means "Alone" in Latin]:

Write-Offs

Write-Offs are writing challenges originally created by 55555 and Kakaru, where a group of people get together in a group chat on Skype and write. A theme is given, and all participants have 15-minutes to write a vignette/flash fiction story about said theme, with no extra time for editing or preparing. At the end, the stories are sent to all participants and the participants critique each others' works.

League Of Authors Bi-Weekly Challenge #4

"Let us not, dear friends," says Nuile, "forget our dear friends the bi-weekly challenges! The time has come"--and passed, it might be added--"for another to begin!"   Your theme this week is:   Patience Nuile explains: "The capacity, quality, or fact of being patient; or solitaire if you're British. Interpret and incorporate it into your story as you fancy. I'd like to see how you can put a logical face on a team of Toa playing solitaire." If you are pococurante to this theme, perha

Writing Spree

:: ::  ...Definitely not something I get lately, but I welcome them with open arms. I have had one these past few days. I hope to finish a Short Story by tomorrow or Wednesday. Although I have no idea when I'll actually post it.   I also have a couple other ideas, such as writing two short epics. 1) Re-writing The Battle. 2) Re-Write The Quest for the Mask of Time.   I love writing sprees. I thank God every time I get one. Hopefully it will last another week and a half for all of my Christma

Murder Mystery

Okay, so, for a long time now I've wanted to write a murder mystery [thanks to Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, and the old TV show called "Columbo"].   Now I have finally started it, finishing the prologue today [and of course, thanks to Nuju for pointing out a few mistakes for me]. This also is one of my entries for this "week's" [since this time it's longer than a week] exercise.   It currently doesn't have a title, but if you guys have any ideas I'd like to hear them. Not sure when I'll

Short Story Contest Theme

:: ::  Well, the theme is most likely going to be Jedi Gali's where you have to follow one of the Mata/Nuva [Takanuva is fine too]. Although, I'm thinking of making it during a specific time. It just seems like too big of a subject to do it from when they were created to the present.   Actually, maybe I could just have, say, five different times. Like, one of them would be telling what happened before they were put into their canisters [their training]. What do you think about that?   Anyw

Things Worth Reading

:: ::  I've been meaning to make a list of "things people should read" for a while now, so I guess I'll start now. I know I've forgotten things, and I'm not going to put any links yet [i'll get to it eventually].   Anyway, here we go:   ~ ToM's Bookshelf, Hunger, The Iron Ghost, and Learn to Fly, by ToM Dracone ~ Flux, Through the Eyes of a Vorox, Ignika's Sacrifice, and Merely a Servant, by Nuju Metru ~ Lady Kopaka's Library, Never Forgive, Never Forget, Let the Flames Begin, and Forgotte

The Lincoln Lawyer, By Michael Connelly

[Full review here]   Wow. I really wasn't expecting this to be that good. I saw the previews for the movie back when it came out and it looked cool. However, if a movie is based off of a book, I like to read the book first, so as such I just added The Lincoln Lawyer to my five-thousand-mile-long reading list and didn't think much of it after that. I even bought the book a while back at a used bookstore, but again, just shelved it in favor of other books that I wanted to read first. So last Sunda

How To Write A Good Review

:: ::  How To Review  First off, this is by no means the way you "must" review, but rather the way I find easiest. It's mainly to help people to give better reviews, to those that struggle with doing so.   I have reviewed many things, and what pains me most is to see short and "spammy" [maybe not spam according to BZP, but according to me they are] reviews that say "Awesome I love it! The *blank* is especially cool!", or other short one-sentence reviews like that. Reviews, in my opinion, ar

Monthly Update?

It seems like that's what it's come to. I'll try to do more of weekly updates, but who knows if that'll happen, lol.   Anyway, quick update, as I have a lot of homework [funny how I always seem to update my blog on the days I have a lot of homework]:   Basketball ~ We've had three preseason games so far. Lost two, one by three points and the other by four [boy is that frustrating]. The third, we won by sixty. Mhm. And we stopped pressing/playing our hardest once we were up by twenty, haha. Tho

Old Story Ideas

Anyone remember that Core War Short Story Contest a while back? Well, I was going through all my various writing folders (my computer's a mess...I wanted to finally organize stories that I had finished, abandoned, are in progress, and ideas, etc.), and I came across my old Core War entry idea. I had forgotten how much I loved that; I think that may be the farthest I've ever gone into someone's character with the exception of two (or three) of my main characters for other projects. Unfortunately

Sigh

:: ::  I really want to write something, but I don't know what, and I don't feel like writing the five things that are already in-the-works.   Inspire me?   In other news, I hope to get the Writer's Club started by the end of next Sunday; I still would like a few more people to officially join, though [you can post here if you want to].   And on Wednesday I take the PSAT. Good news is that I get out of school at 11:30. Bad news is that I have to take a boring test.   Also, Midterms are

Score!

So I was talking to my friend a couple weeks back about books and writing and such. Then we got in to used books stores and how a bunch were closing and all that [a few within several minutes from my house]. Anyway, he knew of a good one like twenty minutes from where I lived that had really cheap books and a really good selection [and also good quality].   Well, I finally went there today. I got ten books for ~$12: A Cry In the Night -- Mary Higgins Clark. Got this because she spoke at my brot

Vacation

:: ::  I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go to Sacramento. I'm not sure how much I'll be on, though. I'm driving back Thursday, so I won't be on then or tomorrow, 'cause driving takes up pretty much the whole day.   And tonight is the Easter Vigil Mass. It's so awesome... but long, unfortunately. Anyway, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'm the server that holds/uses the censer - the Thurifur [at least, I think that's how it's spelled...].   So, yeah. This will be my first time being th

Brickfair Withdrawal

It keeps coming back. =[   First I had it right after BFair itself, and then it subsided for a little while, but then I had BrickCon which brought on 'Con Withdrawal and brought back 'Fair Withdrawal. And now whenever I see BrickFair or 'Con mentioned anywhere it makes me sad. I miss you guys!   We'll just have to make next year extra awesome.   But it's still 9 months away... =/

Writings

:: ::     I am ashamed to say that I haven't really done much over the recent downtime. Writing-wise, at least. What do I blame that to?   - Reading a bunch of Agatha Christie murder mysteries - Watching a couple seasons of NCIS my grandpa got on DVD and let me borrow [an awesome show, I must say] - Doing numerous things on other forums   Not an excuse, I know. I have done a few things, though:   - Started writing an epic that Nuju Metru and myself are co-writing -- it's the new "Chronicles of

Rahkshi Star

:: ::  So I finally took some pics of the Stars!Rahkshi, and hopefully I'll write up the review soon. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a pic of all the Stars, as well as one of the Rahkshi:   ::   Pic quality isn't all that great, but it was darker today than I like it, so...   I'll probably do Nektann next [who may be my least favorite], though maybe Tahu.   If there's one you'd specifically like to see, then I'll do that one next, otherwise, I'll just get to all of them whenever

New Phone

Just got the EnV 3 yesterday. While I do kinda miss my ol' LG Chocolate [the screen only showed random lines of random colors, which is why I had to get a new phone], as it's awesome, I love the EnV. Qwerty keyboard! Which means that I'll now use Mobile IM, since it's a lot easier with a full keyboard. Which means you guys should hit me up on AIM. =P [just tomorrow or the next day or next day, etc. sometime, rather than tonight -- doesn't matter the time of day, as long as I'm on, obviously] bzv

American Assassin

The anticipation is going to kill me.   THREE MORE DAYS.   For those that don't know [like, everyone, probably], this is Vince Flynn's newest book, just released in stores everywhere October 12th. I'm getting it on the 20th at the Ronald Regan Presidential Library book signing by Vince Flynn where I get to meet him and, obviously, receive an autographed copy of his new book, as well as listen to a talk by him. Even cooler is that he'll sign any other hardback books I have, which means that I

Quick Grammar Guide

:: ::  I'm mainly posting this here so that I can link to it in various places, rather than just linking to my post in the BZPRPG General Discussion Topic as I did before.   So, without further ado, I present to you a Quick Grammar Guide of sorts, written by your very own Toa Velox:   The most common mistake I see is the use of There, Their, and They're. Below I will write how each one is to be used, and an example:   There: "There" is used to describe a place. I want to go over there. The

Homecoming

So, last week was homecoming week, which was the main reason for my some-what less activeness here [especially in the BZPRPG -- sorry Micah! I'll try to post soon].   Throughout the week there were various fun things going on, but the really awesome stuff started Friday. I went to my friend's house after school and hung out with people until the Homecoming football game. We didn't win [we did horribly, in fact], but it was still really fun and most of the time we weren't even watching the game a
