Come Together

It's such an amazing song. The Aerosmith version is on the radio right now. Of course, hearing the recorded version can never compare to hearing it live. Because yes, they actually played it at the concert. -

Churyumov-Gerasimenko

Oh hello.   Humankind has just landed a probe on a comet after ten years of slingshotting around other planets. Please take a moment to acknowledge how awesome this is.   For those interested, Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko has a highly elliptical orbit with a period of 6.45 years, and is currently travelling at 135,000 km/h (84,000 mi/h). It will be coming to perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) exactly one year from today at a distance of 1.2432 astronomical units (AU, or the average dist

Centered?

Centered...  Or not Centered?   That is the Question. The answer is centered. -

BricksCascade peeps.

I think it's fair to say that BricksCascade 2015 was the worst-organized con that I've been to, but the social aspect more than made up for it.   Shoutouts to (pictured left to right below, excluding myself on the far left): Jason (xccj), Trisha (Kayru), Rene (EmporessWhenua), Riley (Based Goomy), Ben (ChocolateFrogs), Adrian (Emzee), Micah (Kakaru), Pat (DeeVee), Calen (The 1st Shadow), Jen (Tufi Piyufi), Bryan (Makaru), Nate (GSR), Rob (Janus), Becca (Hahli Husky) and Breann (Roa McToa, not pi

BricksCascade 2015

Time for a short debrief of the weekend.   BricksCascade was my second LEGO convention in Portland, the first having been BrickFest 2009. Since that was the last year of BrickFest, Cascade has taken its place as the biggest con in the area.   The organization of Cascade was in general somewhat lacking. One of the great things about BrickCon is the many seminars, discussions and roundtables; Cascade didn't have much in that department. What Cascade did have was lots of free and discounted sets. E

BricksCascade

I think I'm going to make it this year. Anyone else?   Now, if they could just update the registration page on their website, like they said would be done in late November, that'd be great...   -Letagi

BricksCascade

The fact that half of the (very few) members that follow this blog are inactive and have been for some time now makes me feel old.   ANYWAYS   Just registered for BricksCascade. Hotel is confirmed. Just have to book my flights.   This will only be my second time in Portland, the first having been almost exactly six years ago for BrickFest 2009. I didn't spend any time exploring and don't remember much about the city so it'll be nice to see it again. I hear it's a lot like Vancouver or something?

Brickfest!

Well, well. Where to start. I don't really feel like doing the full report, like I did with BrickCon, but I'll start by saying that BF was twice as awesome as BC, and that's saying something because BC was also a blast. I managed to get some seriously awesome deals at the Scatch & Dent - 50% off a Trade Federation MTT, and 50% off - that's right - a Death Star II. As pictured in the previous entry, I also got my hands on two incredibly rare masks - a gold/opaque Strakk helmet and a

Brickfest!

Hey, just a little reminder that I'll be away until Monday night. I won't be able to get on BZP until then. Well, gotta go, there's some last-minute things I've got to do. -

BrickFair VA

Actually leaving for BrickFair in a few minutes. Like, for real.   This is really cool, because I've wanted to go to this con since its first year in 2008, and it's finally happening.   See a bunch of you soon! But first, like twelve hours of travelling. Oh boy.   -Letagi

BrickFair Badge Ideas

Over the years I've amassed plenty of bricks that say my BZP name and the city I live in. Anyone have any more whimsical ideas for a brick badge?   -Letagi

BrickFair and Jobs

I might actually make it this year.   It's never really been an option in the past, either because of the cost or because I was too young to travel that far on my own (or to register for a conference, for that matter) and would have needed a parent with me - which would have doubled the already high cost. I'm twenty, so obviously the second problem isn't a problem anymore, and I have some good job prospects so I'll be able to pay my parents back for at least part of the trip in the near future.

BrickFair 2015 Recap

Seeing as I have another four hours to wait here in Dallas, I might as well do a quick review of the past few days.   I flew to Baltimore at around midnight on Tuesday night. After a layover in Toronto, I arrived at BWI at 10:00am, whereupon Xaeraz and his dad picked me up on their way to BrickFair. A good amount of laughter and like-minded political discussion took place, in particular whilst driving by NRA headquarters.   Our timing turned out to be impeccable, as we arrived at BrickFair almos

Brickcon!

No! Arpy beat me to the first BrickCon Blog entry! Oh well. BrickCon was a success! I got to meet a few awesome BZPers. Roa, Arpy, xccj, and Kopakanui. I didn't really get around to talking to Cajun or Binkmeister, but Binky commented on my BZP brick on my brick badge. Okay, I'll start from the top. Day One: I wanted to leave Vancouver at about 8:00 a.m., but we ended up leaving at around nine. The wait at the border was about half and hour, unfortunately, but oh well. We arrived

Brickcon Coutdown!

Time to BrickCon (or rather when I'll get there): forty-seven hours, fourteen minutes, forty-five seconds as of this typing. As you can see, I'm rather looking forward to that time. I'll be packing tonight probably, then I'll have just a few more classes to not look forward to and then AWESOME. -
