Flash Fiction Marathon

The Overlord and Grand Quillmaster of the Library, or Velox as he is more commonly known, has opened up a very cool contest: 12 short stories, 2 weeks, 400-600 words max, alternating Bionicle and COT.   Flash fiction can be very fun, and writing under a word limit can be as well (contrary to what college applications lead you to believe), so I'm taking this opportunity to advertise what I'm sure is going to be a blast.   That said, given my schedule for the next two weeks, I probably won't be ab

Caveat Scriptor Tiebreaker

PSA time! Our newest Comedies contest, Caveat Scriptor, just finished with a tie for the winner.   We're holding a tiebreaker poll for the next 24 hours, so if you voted in the first round, make sure to cast your vote for the final winner! (If you didn't vote in the first round, you should probably read the entries and vote anyway. It's the cool thing to do.)   Poll's over here.

Flash Fic #1: The Last Dangerous Visions

At times, Turaga Vakama dreamt of stars.   He dreamt of space completely unbounded, of planets and galaxies and universes stretching out beyond comprehension, packed with stories and struggles and losses and victories and life and danger.   And then he would open his eyes and see the walls of his hut in New Atero, the torch in the corner of the room flickering and casting shadows across the wall.   At times he would lift himself from where he slept, take his staff, and hobble out into the street

On Reviews

So recently the ECC got the heads-up that some of our recent reviews (particularly charity ones) have been discouraging rather than helpful. Cederak already made a response in the official ECC topic, but I wanted to give my own quick comment on this situation:   In my reviews, I know I can get pretty critical, and getting that dropped on you out of nowhere can be disheartening. But please don't take the review as the be-all-end-all, or as just criticism for criticism's sake. I enjoy helping peop

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, all that jazz

A Merry Christmas (or other holiday of choice) to all of BZP! May you spend it with your loved ones, or barring that, some pretty decent folks, or barring that, with other people on the internet in the same boat. Because the internet is for nothing if not shared misery.

Streaming SSB4 3DS - now!

Title says it all. Come on in and we'll get started!   http://www.twitch.tv/boltgsr   (Extra content warning beyond the external link one: this is a public Twitch stream for a popular game, so there's no telling who'll show up in the channel. Hopefully nothing awful though!)

The Shadow and the Sea: Three of Three

The nice thing about writing a short story that turns into an epic is that you can have a reasonable turn-around time on chapters! Well, a chapter. If you count 'a week' as reasonable. Point is, The Shadow and the Sea is done.   Read it! Critique it! Bop it! Point out canon discrepancies that I sort of just looked the other way on... it!

Pratchett

I can't quite find the right words for this.   Maybe that's appropriate. I think the only way to truly write about how brilliant Terry Pratchett was would be to use the kinds of words Terry Pratchett could write. And it goes without saying that nobody in the world could write those kinds of words except Terry Pratchett.   He was a genius author and by all accounts a good man. He lived a life true to himself and what he saw in the world. And he left some of the greatest, funniest books in the wor

Stories and Schooling and Stories

(Disclaimer: Most of the below was written at like, 1 AM, and it got a bit rambly.)   I like writing stories. I dunno if you've noticed, but it's true. I also tend to be busy with school. I dunno if you've noticed, but that's also true. It seems appropriate to blog about the two, since they've been eating up most of my life lately. So that's what I'm doing. Blogging. About stories. And also school. Yeah.   In all seriousness, though - I've got stories to tell. Well, eventually. I've got stories

Second Day At Microsoft

Finally got to find out the specifics of what I'll be working on. It'll be a lot of fun to [NDA] while comparing it to the old version of [NDA], though I imagine it'll take a while to get used to [NDA].   (The setup they give you as an intern is incredible, though. Puts my desktop at home to shame.)

Finals, Preparations, And Changes

Things are finally starting to wrap up around here. I've got a meeting with one of the faculty in the CS department tomorrow, a pair of midterms Wednesday and Thursday, and a whole lot of stuff to pack up before I move out on Friday.   After that, I've got about two weeks at home to get everything together, and then I'm off to Seattle for the summer. I haven't got the faintest idea who my roommates are going to be, or even where exactly I'll be living, but I'm excited. I've spent my whole lif

Oh Man What Is This

So I met these two weirdos named Dorek and Swert today. Yeah, I dunno what their deal was either.   Nah, had a pretty awesomely chill time with two pretty cool guys (not cool dudes); many fun conversations were had Swert works at a place guaranteed to make anyone with even a passing interest in Lego jealous, and Dorek was awesome and provided me with a ride back to my apartment.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to chill with them (and others?) again sometime.
