I only have one problem with TBBT set passing the review board, and it doesn't have to do with me not liking the show anymore. In the words of my father, who is a fan of the show: "The Big Bang Theory is all about the Bang, and I don't mean the scientific one." LEGO rejected the Firefly Serenity set a while back based on concerns about the content of the IP, which has translated over to the people I know as "LEGO has a problem with Inara." The violence within the Firefly 'Verse likely wasn't
This is extremely random, but about a week ago I went out and bought olive oil, a small bottle of balsamic vinegar, and put them together in a jar with some cinnamon, oregano, rosemary, thyme, red pepper, black pepper, salt, and maybe one or two other things. I then heated the mixture repeatedly by setting the jar in boiling water. At one point I put it in a food processor in order to break up the congealed cinnamon bark mass that formed at the bottom before heating it again. So now I have a sce
I forgot that these images existed. This pair of screen-captures come from a time when I had my own custom/"hacked" skin going on with my User Pages on BS01. One day I notices what I thought to be a hilarious side effect of the black-out method I had employed. They are best prefaced with a question: do you feel as if something sinister, something evil, might be lurking in the sky over our fair city? On another note: I'm playing around with the old MP again. Better view of it here using the mon
We Shall Never Forget. Annuit Coeptis. Novus Ordo Seclorum. E Plurbis Unum. He Has Favored Our Undertakings. A New Order of the Ages. Out of Many, One. This weekend, the new members of my choir will begin a process known as "Key" which will act to bring them together as a group, induct them fully into their first year, and educate them in the history of the Singing Cadets and of Texas A&M. During this time, they as a first-year class will learn Auld Lang Syne, a song precious to our
In the summer between my 9th and 10th grade years, I became acquainted with a young lady best known as "Allison." Not long after I discovered that Allison's parents were divorced and she was being abused by stepfather, that she had taken to cutting herself and it wasn't long after that she attempted suicide. Thanks for cheering us up Zox, great start there. She aborted her suicide because I sent a text asking how she was doing. That minuscule, caring human contact was enough to convince her
...and other times they let me top one of our Christmas trees (we got three because why not?) with MoCs =D BIONICLE Christmas Tree toppers! I don't even care that they probably suck relative to a lot of the MoCs on here: they're topping the Geek-mas Tree! They win!
I've given up on using them in my writing system (con-script?) for the most part. Maybe at some point... mayyybeee.... In the process of exploring the idea, though, I came up with several more letterforms I liked and have decided to (instead of using diacritics for vowels) simply revise my script to get rid of the letters that require you to lift the pen more than once. Basically I'm revising for laziness. The only reason I didn't try and make them all letters that don't require any lifts woul
Tomorrow volunteer registration will open for A-Kon 27 in Dallas, Tx. As I've done for the past few years, I'm going to be submitting an application to volunteer as a medic during the event. It's always a ton of fun, if exhausting and terribly wearing on my feet. I tend to stiffly stumble back to my hotel room at 4 a.m. and take a few moments to just sit down and rejoice in taking my weight off them. A-Kon is a yearly anime convention that (now) takes place in the Hilton Anatole of Dallas, and v
As September 11th nears, I have begun to turn my attention towards what I will be publishing on my BS01 Userpage. I have made one of these speeches once a year for the past four or five years now, as a tribute to 9/11 and to people across the world who have died in various tragedies. This year, I would like to do something different. I would like to find a way to honor the BZPower family specifically in addition to my usual statements. At Texas A&M, my university, we have a yearly tradit
More thoughts came to mind last night as to my hypothetical Zelda game, specifically how to introduce some plot differences between it and the other games that always have Ganon gaining the upper hand before being brought low by Link and Zelda. So... As revealed in Skyward Sword, there is an eternal curse on the Princess and the Hero that the hatred of Demise will revive again and again in an endless cycle. In two of the three timelines Ganon is considered dead, but one of those is simply beca
I've grown up with dogs. I've never not had a dog as part of my family. Bailey Quarters, Phoebe, Hero, and Samantha Carter. Bailey died when we were kids, a long time ago. We had Phoebe for a little while, but she couldn't be housebroken and we gave her away. Then we got Hero way, way back when I was in elementary school, and Sam came along when Hero got a little older and needed someone to play with. Sweet, sweet girls. We had Hero put to sleep a little over a year ago, and just today we buried
My first half-year in the Singing Cadets was miserable. I despised the initiatory process and even into the 2nd half and throughout my four years I resented the older "Old Men" and those younger than me who embraced the system a little too enthusiastically for my taste. Even in my last year, at the height of my seniority and reputation in the group I had plenty of reason to despise some people in the group. Which, of course, has led one friend in particular to keep asking me why I bothered wit
"The Eagle now stands behind your class year, just as the entire Association stands behind you." --- Today at 1400, Texas A&M began Commencement Ceremonies for graduating members of the College of Architecture, College of Science, and College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science (one of these things is not like the others), awarding Doctoral, Masters and Baccalaureate degrees. We also commissioned about 130 officers going into the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. A big, bi
Rey is... ehhh. Finn was okay. Kylo Ren is a little frustrating. Overall, I liked it. Thought it was good. Not great. Not a wonder to behold. Had some quibbles and had the aforementioned character issues, but I enjoyed it. 7/10, would watch again. Oh, two more things... That's all I got!
So my latest thoughts about the hypothetical Zelda game I've been putting together in my head (detailed here and here), are as follows: 1. Dungeons in Hyrule itself don't change layout or puzzle style based on how you treat Labrynna and Holodrum. Instead, they are just flat-out very difficult dungeons that can be completed with merely a sword, shield, and bow (or whatever Zelda's initial loadout is). Have Link start with his bow and go from there. Completion of Holodrum and Labrynna give you i
BZPower Muster ----------------------------------------------------- A few of you know that I am involved in the world of Emergency Medicine, and as a matter of course I interact with other medics, with police officers, and with firefighters. As 9/11 nears, I would like to take a moment each week to recognize these three forces--the Red, the White, and the Blue--which are so integral and important in my life. When I turned 16 I joined my city fire department as a junior volunteer. I still h
No matter who you are, where you're from, what you believe, or whether you do or don't like Hero Factory, I'd like to wish you the absolute best of this season. I hope that you will have peace and joy as the year winds down and that the blessings of the season will follow you throughout 2016 and onwards through your life. You people are awesome. Merry Christmas, BZP! And a belated Happy Hannukah, too. And I'm not familiar with other festivals that happen around this time of year. Oh well.
Is it bad that I see all of these going on but instead of caring about them I'm this close *holds up fingers you can't see* to giggling with delight just at seeing old BS01-er's names showing up in the BS01 Recent Changes? It just makes me absurdly happy
A probie member of my choir made this joke after rehearsal: A famous orchestra conductor was going to give his final performance before he retired, and he chose Beethoven's 9th Symphony as the piece he wanted to go out on. But he couldn't count on the basses in the choir, because they all went out in the hours before the concert and got plastered But there was no helping it The concert went ahead as scheduled And for most of the performance the basses did fine It was okay It wa
After looking at my calendar, I can now count the time until the end of my college career by "Things to Do." Apr. 29th: 1 presentation for physiology, followed by an exam for communication. Apr. 30th: 1 performance with the Singing Cadets for a Salvation Army banquet. May 1st: 1 exam for genetics. May 7th: Final Singing Cadet performance at a dinner for A&M's new president, and final exam for communication. May 11th or 12th: Final exam for genetics. May 12th: Final exam for physi
When I stay up way too late, I play with ciphers! INIO CGECRBRWVDP NRTEETTHSGEEEAESEITIMHMDHIAEHNAFRREFRITSNTEEMR EDTOYEThe plaintext should be familiar. The way I'm hiding the information is something I came up with as a start of a more complicated system of enciphering. Dunno how the end product will look, and I'd like to try and move away from straight English letters (verbose cipher, anyone?) just because I like that particular challenge. If you want to guess at the solution, PM me. S
To be honest, I've said all I can regarding my history page. If your interest has been piqued, the following links can give you a good overview of BS01 history. I hope you've found these blog posts at least interesting, and I hope you'll help me in my mission. Assuming I don't think of something else to say, I'll see you next year, hopefully with more files and more work to be done. I know there are a few in the Austin area, and this is mainly addressed to them because they're likely closest. If you'd like to take a day-trip away from Austin this weekend (or where ever you live if you're able/inclined to travel to Bryan-College Station) and be entertained with holiday music from multiple choirs on a Sunday afternoon, I can hook you up. My college chorus and it's two sister choirs will be putting on a holiday concert at 3pm, and I can promise that you'll enjoy at least MY ch
