Gali Masters Mosaic Sound-Off

Heyo! I've been trying to contact those of you who were making pieces, but for completion's sake, I'm putting together a quick blog post.           Sections: [01][02][03] [04][05][06] [07][08][09] [10][11][12]   Complete - In Progress - Assuming Progress - No Claim   Xccj: 05, 06, 08, 09 Completed Chocolate Frogs: 10 Completed Black Six: 01, 02, 04 In Progress Kayru: 07 In Progress Based Goomy: 12 Assuming Progress Danny316p: 11 Assuming Progress   This does mean that we currently ha

Matau, Master of Air

Topic Here!   The biggest issue is that I ordered some Rahkshi feet in dark green from Bricklink, and then when the order finally got in, it contained Metru feet in dark green. Like, I already had those, I made the order because I wanted a different style!! So I had to redo the feet. I dunno if it's for better or worse.   Also I'm remembering why I hate MOCing in dark green; it's a terrible color to photograph.   Anyway, entering the contest. And stuffs.

Fredies Comes Through Again

After having no new sets all through January (except the Series 4 Mixels), Fred Meyers has come back strong with a bunch of new sets in store, including City, Chima, Bionicle (but only Kopaka, Onua, and LoSS), Ultra Agents, and (most excitedly) Elves and Ninjago. I'm planning to save a couple of purchases for the double VIP points from Lego stores in March, but I couldn't resist and purchased a two of the three new Ninjago sets right away. (They didn't have them all there.) Expect reviews shortl

Review: Brainiac Attack

And here’s another short review. I ordered 76040 Brainiac Attack at the start of the new year, but then it got backordered and I didn’t receive it until the end of the month. But I’ve put it together and now will speak my mind on this.     Brainiac Attack is $24.99 USD, the second cheapest DC Super Heroes set out this winter and the cheapest one to get Superman in. And you wouldn’t be amiss if you got this strictly for the figs; technically they’re all unique, although that’s slightly misleadin

More Thoughts on BBC Contest 69

Oh man, this has got to be my favorite contest in a while. It's so awesome to see all the entries of classic characters reimagined. I mean, there were some neat builds in the BFTGM, but this is just an awesome revamp nostalgia trip with some swell designs of characters big and small! I mean, I always appreciated a good revamp, and this contest is littered with em. I have a feeling the polls are going to be REALLY tough!   I also don't know how well my entry will do in comparison. I haven't see m

NEED: MOCs for a Black Light Display at Bricks Cascade

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but it's been on my mind for a while.   I'm going to be setting up a small black light display at BricksCascade. Unfortunately, I only have one decent MOC that's made out of fluorescent colors. Last time, I just made a quick mash up of all my decent pieces that would look good... but it was a messy design. Instead, I would rather share the display with two-three other Toa sized characters, which is about what I think can fit inside the display. If you've

Working on my BBC Contest Entry

Sorry, no picts, but I can at least talk about it and the contest in general.   I was already planning a project that would require me to rebuild a Toa Metru (I won't tell which one yet). I was thinking about designing it akin to my Toa Mata revamps, in that I would build a custom torso and then use my basic and unarmored limb design. But this contest gave me an excuse to try it out a little more CCBS style. Unfortunately, the finished model ended up being too big for my original project, so I n

Review: Allegra from Galidor

Hah, bet you weren’t expecting this one! (I dunno, is there any expectation really? “Oh look, he’s blogging again about some set he likes. Better keep scrolling.”)     Anyway, last month I was in a BrickLink store and saw they had like half the pieces to this set, which was one I’ve considered for a while (out of Galidor sets.) But then I found a store that was selling the original set for less than buying all the parts individually, so I just went with that. And even though we know the theme f

Review: Jasmine’s Exotic Palace

The Disney Princess theme has reused the Friends Mini-doll design, but while the characters were recognizable, I never really got into the theme last year. But then they released an Alladin set, 41061 Jasmine's Exotic Palace, and since itwas one of my favorite Disney movies, I decided that I should pick this one up.   There are quite a few small builds, and most are fairly unimpressive. There’s a tree, a stand for the lamp, a fountain, the magic carpet, a shopping stand, and a palace entrance. M

Review: Ezra’s Speeder Bike

Onto more quick set reviews!     Today I’m looking at 75090 Ezra’s Speeder Bike. This is from the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon, which is actually pretty decent. It features Ezra, the main character and a Jedi-in-training, along with ally Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian, against a generic Stormtrooper. Ezra and Stormy have appeared in last year’s Rebels sets. (In particular, this exact Stormtrooper, who I guess has some slightly different printing, including blue vents, that makes him stand out from

Review: Heartlake Hot Air Balloon

I’ve gotten a few new sets recently, and since I’m not up to writing full front page reviews, I’ll provide a couple of short ones in my blog here.     Let’s start with 41097 Heartlake Hot Air Balloon from the 2015 Lego Friends line. This is cool because we haven’t seen a hot air balloon since the days of the Adventurers line, and this one gets some new pieces to help pull off the look. While the balloon pieces are obviously designed for one purpose, they offer enough connection points that I co

Bionicle Double-Decker Couch

I haven't blogged much lately, so I'm gonna start out with a new MOC I've been working on for a while...     I have yet to see a Double-Decker Couch built out of Bionicle elements yet, so I went ahead and built one myself. Granted, it's a little messy and not very stable, especially since the characters are just barely attached to it. But I think it comes off well.   That is a new Matoran design, and while I'd like to say it's mostly Bionicle, that's kinda untrue. The torsos are primarily syste

Rest of the Toa Masters Short Reviews

So I’ve completed my collection of the Toa Masters. (Is calling them Toa Masters fine? That’s what I’m going to do anyway, I forget if it’s been used elsewhere.) I would post short reviews with pictures… but Majhost has been down for over a week, so I don’t think that’ll work, since I don’t feel list hosting blog images elsewhere. So text it is. . . if you want to see them, you know where to look.   First off is Gali. My first reaction is that she needs more of that lovely dark azure. I might b

Okoto Socket Mosaic

Okoto Socket Mosaic by Xccj, on Flickr   Not going to talk much about this; it's a concept idea I had, a mix between a sculpture and a mosaic of the new Okoto island. Maybe it's just me, but the shape just doesn't seem iconic or anything, so it's kinda hard to tell if I matched it well enough? Now I want to do the Mata Nui island in the same style... but all my sockets got used here, for the most part.   I tried some new things here. I flipped every other column to mix things up, although this m

Oh Hey, It's The 17th

What is that now, Furno's spinning head?   Anyway, this is my... (2015-2003) ... twelfth BZP anniversary. You can try to get rid of me, but I just won't leave.   And since I might as well update something... in regards to my BZP story, no I have not forgotten about it, I've just been focusing on a bunch of other projects (some voluntarily, others not so much.) But it will continue!   Anybody care? No. Oh well. Also, Gali mosaic for Bricks Cascade! I'll do a quick update of it (eventually) and th

Gali Masters Mosaic?

Sections: [01][02][03] [04][05][06] [07][08][09] [10][11][12]   So, what do you think? This has been recolored to better fit a selection of colors that are easy to utilize. )The red is just outlining the 32x32 sections.) The blue on the shoulders / thighs is dark azure, because I have a lot of that color in bricks. I expect to do at least one of those sections to use my supply, and I can probably cover all of them it nobody else has enough of the bricks in that color. I also made the skull spide

Potential Natural Disasters

In the latest xkcd comic, he said he would want to live on the example map in geography books where all the geographical features are labeled. However, I believe there are a lot of risks he's overlooking, and I shall list them here.   Flooding: He is located in the drainage area of a fairly large mountain range, and the primary drainage seems to be just north of his location, so he would likely be prone to seasonal flooding, particularly since he's on a fairly flat section.   Cold Climate: Consi

Potential Toa Masters Mosaics?

These are, of course, raw versions that I just threw through Pic-to-Brick's mosaic generator once. (Oh, I got that to work for me again, turns out I didn't have Java installed. Huh.) Anyway, things would definitely get tweaked to stay with more consistent coloring. Particularly, the backgrounds would probably get changed to grayscale, although I'd probably keep the styling instead of making it a solid background. Adds some extra flair, if just for shades of gray.   I myself am partial to the Gal

Bricks Cascade Bionicle Colab Mosaic?

The convention is only a couple of months away, so this may be a little too late for some of y'all who apparently need 6 months to build stuff, but I'm going to suggest it anyway. (I think we have a similar turnaround once for BrickCon, so it's not impossible.)   We've done Bionicle mosaics before at conventions. CF and Nukaya have made Kopaka, Onua, and the full team of Toa Mata at BrickFair, and we've done the Kaukau Waterfall and Lewa-in-Protodermis at BrickCon. But so far none at Cascade, de

Lego Store visit paid off. (Just in case this goes the way of other Cuusoo / Ideas sets and disappears quickly.)   Also FYI although there are like 3 polybag deals you can get with Lego right now, my store would only give my one bag even tho I qualified for all of em. But I went online and was able to get all three deals. So that's a better option really... except I didn't want to risk not getting the Birds and I wanted Gali in hand... so yeah. (BTW, I got Gali, and Onua has been ordered. I'll f

What I Haven't Done in 2014

I'm seeing some people writing about accomplishments and such they've made this past year. I considered it, but since I'm an eternal pessimist, I'm going to look at what I didn't accomplish this year, albeit with a slightly positive outlook. I didn't die. I didn't lose my job. I didn't get booted off BZP. I didn't go broke or get kicked out of my apartment. (Those two kinda go hand in hand) I didn't start the apocalypse. I didn't get robbed. I didn't get swept out into the ocean via a tsun

Lewa and Pohatu Masters Review

Target had some more Bionicle... in fact it was one of the few Lego shelves that was fully stocked. So I bought some more. Muhaha. Now time for a quick review.     First things first, did I either not read the Lewa reviews closely enough or did none of them mention all the new technic goodies that he came with? +oo rods and 1 length rod spacers? First one was from last year and relatively uncommon, and Lewa has four, and the spacers are new, I believe!   Since I already started... Lewa seems fa

Hit Right on Target

I'd been hearing some reports about Bionicle showing up in Target, so I decided to swing by my local one... and found some.     For Bionicle, they only had the two protectors, so I grabbed both. Oddly enough, the cashier was really excited to see they had them in and was bummer when I said there were only a few left. (And then seemed reluctant to sell me the ones I picked up... I assume it was all part of an act.) In addition to Bionicle, they had some other 2015 stuff from other themes, includ
