Lego Mindstorms

So recently, I had this odd dream yesterday where I was in this retail store aisle that had a bunch of discontinue and old sets like the Toa Mata; all at cheap prices. Yeah, I realized that was only a dream and it more than likely that stuff like that would of went up in value. But well, it reminder me of how I always admired the LEGO Mindstorms sets and how I would of liked to have been able to get one myself (I was in a LEGO Robotics Club when I was in middle school and we were often enter the kickoff to competition of the FIRST LEGO League's challenge. We never got past there though at least during my time with the club.).

So then, I started thinking, "Well, I do have some money that I could use to get the latest Mindstorms set. Maybe I should do it." I am still kind of weary about the idea though. Not because I don't think it would be worth cash, but rather more of that I won't know how to program it as well as I did with the RCX models (I was a programmer/chief sorter on the team.). Hm...I could consider the idea of looking for an older model. Although that idea has its cons too, especially considering I doubt I could run the programming program on my Window Vista computer.

What do you think I should do?

I actually have a RXC model I'm trying to get rid of. Why? Because when I originally bought it, the receiving tower thing never worked, and I believe it was defective. Thus, I never got a chance to actually program with it. Also because, even if I were to get into it now, my computers no longer support the software. :P

Aw, really? That stinks that you never were able to program with it. Maybe you should of considered contacting Customer Service about that receiving tower, when you first noticed that. You might of been able to get a replacement.

Are you just trying to get rid of the RXC Model Programmable Brick or will all the parts and motors be included? Just curious.

Yes, I certainly should've done that. I was stupid not to.

As for how much I want to get rid of... depends on how much the buyer is willing to spend. ;) (Like, I can use some of the basic pieces, but I'd be willing to throw in all the electric pieces that came with the set)

I see. Do you happen to remember how much you pay for it? If so, how much was it? Oh, and do you know the part number for your version of the set? Just wondering.

Actually, Mindstorms NXT's programming interface isn't much different from the RCX's (or so I've heard). It's basic drag-and-drop programming, simple stuff, really.

Additionally, you can get 'Legacy Blocks' online: a collection of programming blocks that were used for the RCX. If NXT-G includes those blocks to program the RCX, the two programs should be similar.

Besides, the NXT 2.0's touch (times two!), color, and ultrasonic sensors are very much worth it.

Yeah, I actually noticed that after posting this entry. I think what more of holding me back from getting it is my lack of knowledge of the pieces in the set. In addition, the pictures of it, that I saw, tend to give off an alien like feel to me. It probably because of the primary Technic built. Which isn't a bad thing, but I kind of always like the idea that Mindstorms was like a blend between the standard brick system and Technic.

Although considering what you said, I am probably will end up getting NXT 2.0, if I am unable to get an RCX model from anyone. So thanks for pointing that out for me.
