Exo's "Hey, this guy isn't helping!" Tips For Comic-Makers

Randomness is only funny for so long, then you have to develop a bit of a storyline, and add the humor in as an intelligent punchline.

Luckily, "so long" hasn't come yet. And we can all have a good laugh at the guy who just got hit with a block of cheese while saying "CHEESE STUFF!!1". Yes, we can enjoy this for a long time yet.

Oh, boy. Don't start me on a rant about being random. Barely anyone understands what true randomocity is. Randomocity is funny when it's actual randomocity. When you're purposely trying to be random, it's only dumb and lame.

Plus people try to be random with things that simply aren't random anymore. Pie, Muffins, Llamas. Squirrels. They're just not random anymore. (Don't get me wrong, Spitty, llamas pone!!) "A bag of four grapes" rises high in randomocity over the ranks of someone saying "tangerine disco cheesesteak!" which is why Homestarrunner is so successful.

Alas, I must stop ranting.

Randomness is always done wrong, you have to find a balance between being too random, like forcing it, and having something that isn't random enough and you just wonder "why did that just happen?" rather than going "haha, what a funny random thing to make happen!"

Like a plot can never be random-- or at least major plot turning points-- because people just won't get it. Like in lots of comedies we have the characters just sitting around and suddenly "Hey, let's make a restaurant" or "Why don't we go on vacation" or "Let's go shopping" and you just think "What-- WHY!?" You could surely change the plot in minor random ways like "Why are we passing through Ga-Koro instead of taking the short route through Le-Koro?" "Oh, Le-Koro's being eaten by an army of pimply mutated gnomes." but to have everyone just DECIDE something, I mean, HUH?

I don't know why I'm even posting this since I ranted it all off in the "What makes a comedy" topic. I don't know why I'm even here, 'cuz it's comics in question and while both the literary work and the art forum creation contain similar humor I've only been off writing things, not creating situational images.

I guess I just randomly decided to come down to the blogs today...

In The Simpsons, EVERYTHING happens for a reason. That's why it's great. Family Guy... Peter gets attacked by a giant chicken for no reason.

Long posts = Bad :(
