I honestly don't see how that could be offensive.

I know how it could be considered offensive, but in context I don't think it was at all. We all love Derpy so much. ;_;

We have confirmation from a storyboard artist that this shouldn't affect her appearances in future episodes. Of course, chances are this also means we'll never hear her mentioned by name again. She might not even have a role so prominent in the future. But we didn't know for sure that she would have had one if there hadn't been a kerfluffle about her in the first place.

And why is this a problem? Derpy was just as lovable a character before she got mentioned by name and given a speaking role as after. If she returns to being a background character with occasionally noticeable appearances like she had in "Luna Eclipsed" and "Feeling Pinkie Keen", it won't make her any less lovable than when she spoke for the first time. And it won't undo what an incredible gift it was to the fandom it was to have her speak and be mentioned by name. The gift might have been taken away, but the gesture of giving it in the first place has not been undone.
