Today is rather interesting

Eljay: Toa of Mangosteen

I feel the need to do this, considering today is a special day in the US.

Something I find sad besides the fact is how, when I checked the news this morning, there was only one mere article about 9/11. In fact, it was only to talk about the already well-known fact that there had been prior warnings. Other than that, nothing.

It is rather sad that today isn't a bigger deal, or at least from what I've seen. I dunno, I may just be under a rock here.

Either way, I am blessed and proud to be living here, in a wonderful slice of America where freedom is how we live.

Hope everyone remember 9/11. Take care today, everyone! :flagusa:

I mean, what else do you want them to say? It happened eleven years ago. It was bad, it was terrible, and it was used as an excuse for like a decade for a lot of decisions, both good and bad. What is there to say that hasn't already been said??

It's not a matter of them saying something new or whatever. It's that it seemed to me like everyone ignored it on a more public scale. I saw more people at least acknowledging it on BZPower than I did anywhere else.

:kaukau: I know what you mean. Granted, I watch C-SPAN, so I was guaranteed a day full of remembrance, but everyone on my college campus was...I don't know, nobody seemed to acknowledge it. It was a big deal for several years, but now that a decade has gone past some people act like it never happened. I know that I often have the same thoughts on 9/11, but I express them anyway. It just seemed strange when I hear people listening to hip-hop and partying as usual instead of stopping to consider that for one day of the year we should all remember that life and our relationships with other people have a whole lot more meaning beyond playtime.

The part that made me cringe the most was that one of the people who did acknowledge 9/11 was a woman my age who called up her mother and said "Happy 9/11" like it was a holiday. I cringed.

There were still plenty of people who remembered. It's just that I guess it doesn't affect others quite as much as it affects me and some others here on BZPower.
