I need a new computer

What I really need are some suggestions and advice for what to look for in my hunt.

Also, I'm telling you now, I need it to run Windows so it can handle the programs I need it to, so don't suggest an Apple product or that I run Linux. And if it is to try and be funny, you're just being a tool.

You'll want a lot of RAM, around 6-8 GB, and a motherboard that can handle that. I recommend Windows 7 64 Bit for the OS, and a relatively modern Graphics Card, Nvidia being good. CPU is a different question too, probably Ivy or Sandy Bridge, though that's a little more out of my range of knowledge right now.

A lot of it's going to be determined by how much you have to spend. Four hundred? Seven hundred? Sky's the limit?

Regardless, I agree with BZPB that it won't hurt to get a decent motherboard and a good 6-8GB of ram with a 64-bit OS to match. RAM is cheap these days, and if you multitask a lot it can be quite helpful to have a lot to go around.

What do you even want it for? Gaming? Everyday use?

And no, I'd NEVER suggest you get any type of Apple product. :P

I mainly wanna game and be able to browse the web, yeah. Schoolwork is inevitably just Word-based.

Also my T key is no longer attached to my keyboard, so I'm just hitting the toggle switch to type Ts now.

It feels strange.

You want a desktop or a laptop? I recommend going to Costco for the latter - I got the stuff mentioned above with a Terabyte hard drive for a pretty low price. :shrugs:

I also recommend a 802.11n wireless card no matter what.

Honestly, I'm in the market for whatever works best for less, right now. I'm using a laptop, but it's pretty crippled, so it's more or less a desktop to me.

I think I have a pretty decent build, most games I have run at high or medium settings. Specs:

Asrock Fatal1ty P67 Performance (costed $100 when I got it but I see the price has been raised to about $154).

Radeon HD 6570 (should cost somewhere around $70 dollars, mine's the IceQ version with 1GB of DDR3 memory).

4 gigs of Ripjaw RAM (costs around $42 dollars).

Core i3 @3.1 GHz is around $120.

Apevia CB700 700w power supply was around $50.

I'm using a USB CD drive at the moment, as well as some spare IDE hard drives.

That's pretty much what I've got, but I wouldn't recommend the motherboard. The onboard audio never worked on mine as well as some of the other features. :\

Oh, and my wireless device is a Edimax EW-7811Un which is about $15, works great. I've also got a Enermax UC-8EB case fan.

I would try any Discount Electronics store. Cheap computers, with some rather good options. That's a good start, as I actually got a really great Laptop from them for only $170.

Surface or Lenovo.

If you just want Word and web, the Surface RT looks quite nice. I really want one, BUT

My current Lenovo is still working great and I appreciate it immensely.
