Are you kidding me.

So I recently discovered my Pokemon ranger game allows me to get an event deoxys.

If I downloaded the event 2 years ago. Which I did not.

Why do the insist on doing this sort of thing? It makes no sense...

Yet another reason I'm not particularly fond of Nintendo at times...

Yeah, their event system is royally whacked. I'm hoping that the advent of Pokemon Bank (i.e. paid DLC) opens the door for a new way of doing things. Because all we have right now is Japan getting billions of events every year and America getting none, and you have to be on the ball with it in the first place.

Also there are sites that archive the event and allow you to put it on your game, but that's remarkably close to hacking.

If I would go through all the trouble to do that there's programs that can make me any pokemon I want...It's stupid really, I missed genesect, reshiram, arceus and who knows what else because my DS couldn't connect to the internet through my home WiFi. And I still don't know what genius said: "Eh, they don't really need WPA compatibility, do they?"

I know. "But I wanted black Kyurem!" .... Whatever.... I'd pick the game up cheap somewhere but it's basicly the same thing...

And apparently. There where events for the GBA... Who knew.

I think if you were expecting a game for the DS to have a better solution to what is essentially DLC, you're expecting too much. The 3DS has been a lot better about those sorts of things in general (although event-exclusive or limited-time Pokémon are such a tradition for the Pokémon series that I doubt they'll ever be going away altogether).

It bugs me because it isn't dlc. Or at least not from how I understand it. The information is there, I just need a "key " to unlock it. And that key vanished two years ago. Whereas an event pokemon is new information downloaded to the game.

Iwata: *Laughs*

An event Pokemon is already on the cartridge, that's how people with AR get them all and find the hidden legends way before Nintendo unveils them. =P

Hm... Well... I got nothing...

I mean like when a pokemon is delivered to you. As far as I know, those aren't on the game like the ones that just need a special Item are.

Pretty much, Gamefreak introduced the idea of on disk DLC to the handhelds, way back with Red/Green/Blue/Yellow. Because of, you know, Mew. =P And that was most certainly already on the cartridge, because glitches allowed it to be fought in-game. =P

Well, it's "on the cartridge" yeah, but I'm tslking about the exclusive events that are usually just shinies. Unless those are the same idea...

Those are the same idea, since the only thing they do is set different values that would otherwise be on the game. Just sometimes in a different manner.

Yeah, I honestly hate that feature about Pokemon games. That being said it was a lot worst back in day than it is now since before events were only given away in store events mostly.

Thanks to power of internet now, events are at least a little bit better now as everyone for most part can get them. Of course, they are only around for a little while, which does stink (Especially if you don't buy it at release.).

I kind of wish they would sell codes or something in the eShop at least for legendaries that need special key items to unlock their location such as Arceus.

Erm... But it DOES have WPA compatability. Just not for the DS-only games; it has it for DSi and up, though... Otherwise, I'd be unable to play B/W/2 online, or any other game on the 3DS.

Eh I wasn't being descriptive enough. It's not WPA exactly but the way in which my school uses WPA2 Enterprise. You have to sign in with a username and password (which works with literally any other device since you can manually configure that information), but the 3DS settings just ask for a "security key."

Can't you just launch up the browser after the first part of the connection settings, do the sign-in thing, and then continue on your way? Or does it not 'register' your device, and you have to log in every time it times out?

It's not via a browser that you sign in, so no. It doesn't work like that; it's part of the network connection settings. It is literally impossible to connect on a 3DS because you cannot enter that information.

It's difficult to explain without visuals, but believe me... I know you can't. I work at a location on campus where half of our cliental simply want us to connect their laptops/tablets/phones to the wireless network. I'm well versed in how to do that. You really can't on a 3DS because, for any security type, all you can enter is a "security key," which isn't the type of login you need on this type of network.
