This series had handheld, pocket devices that were as powerful and capable of doing anything a computer could do. You could check your email, connect to the internet, send messages, make phone calls, play music, operated on fold-up qwerty keyboards before converting to fully touchscreen based user interfaces, and a personal assistant who would answer your questions and help you organize everything. It had cybercrime and cyberterrorism as a genuine threat and an effective means of terrorism. It predicted the rise of flat-screen TVs, the appearance of modern desktops, how every single thing in the entire world has some sort of computerized bit, the takeover of laptops for a majority of consumers, and that wifi would be everywhere.

In 2001.

It also predicted the near-complete abolishment of wired connections on laptops, those little handhelds, etc., in favor of wireless in around 2003. For reference, that was only four years after the first consumer laptop with built-in wireless.

Capcom, please use your psychic powers for good and give me a ton of money and fame.

I... I've longed for years to make a PET and a NetNavi... I never even realized that it had already technically happened. Now we just need to assign faces to them, and allow them to have virus busting capabilities...

And Capcom never actually gave a date. 20xx is the closest we got. Guys, watch out for random oven fires.

A counterargument: This series starts in the year 2016. The main character uses a flip-phone with a midi ringtone all the way up to the most recent game, which takes place in 2027. And despite some occasional sci-fi technology like the Mood Matrix, smartphones are nowhere to be seen. Clearly Capcom doesn't have a perfect track record.

I wish to add that the sequel series predicts the technology to create solid objects out of EM waves that can be carried around in a device that fits in your pocket. We have much more to look forward to.

And then they canonly crossed over with Professor Layton and logic took one look at the result, threw its hands up in the air, and said "I'm out".

(It doesn't help that there's hints in AA that it takes place in the same universe as Dino Crisis, a game which posits we'd have time travel in 2009, but it'd just wind up bringing forward a bunch of angry dinosaurs.)

And alien bros. Don't forget the alien bros.
