I'km practically obsessed with bows and swords and I can't sharpen a pocket knife.

 

There is something so wrong with that statement. I've been trying for hours and have made literally no progress. (Except cutting my fingers.)

What angle are you holding it at? If metalworking has taught me anything, it's that the easiest mistake to make when shaping something like that is holding the sharpening/filing/smoothing/etc. tool at the wrong angle.
