Going to see the Guardians

So today, since I'm technically off school and not going anywhere, I decided to go watch Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's a more innocent Star Trek ripoff, but that's like saying something ripped off Bionicle, in which case it would be amazing. Which is multiple levels of irony because all of the main players are criminals, but...alas, it is not as raunchy as your typical Star Trek episode. The characters have a bit more emotional depth to them and are a bit more childlike - they're not soldiers/explorers in an intergalactic army. :)

Also, we do get a shot of a boy and a girl actually engaging in combat - always wanted to see that in a movie. :) Later we get a girl-on-girl fight - which strikes me as unique and fun in a way.

And there is no real romance plot in the movie either. I approve.

Also, Chris Pratt beats everyone in grand style at the end - Nova Corps, Ruffians, and Ronen. Everyone loses to Star Lord. It's evocative of Captain Kirk, but with me that sort of thing never really gets old. It's kind of obvious Mr. Quill has no idea what he's doing either, which adds to the fun.

Anyway, I always like a good space opera - and by good, I mean one that's actually lighthearted and funny as opposed to tragic and depressing. There's been way too many tragic ones IMO: I'm looking at you, Ender's Game and Gravity and Oblivion. I haven't seen any comedic tales of this type that aren't Star Trek TBH, and I'm all for ripping them off (or even improving upon) them more.

Maybe I'll write one one of these days. :shrugs:
