A few days ago the death toll was in the single digits, and I was very happy that it was so low. It has since risen to 30, and unfortunately will continue on rising, but hopefully not by much. I insist on believing that one day we will get so good at dealing with hurricanes that we will not have any deaths whatsoever.

My hat is off to the remarkable people of Texas for turning out in overwhelming numbers to volunteer help to those in need. You are heroes and messengers of hope.
