Server Go Boom

Binkmeister

Last night I performed scheduled maintenance on the server, at the same time as trying to update some core software. It backfired, and the database server wouldn't load. That's fixed, but now I need to adjust the configuration, and I can't do that at work. So the machine will probably run really sluggishly until I can get home to adjust that.

It's either run it and watch it go up and down, or yank the forums offline and have everybody go into BZP withdrawal. It's an ugly sight, so I'll stress the server. But don't be surprised if things go bang during the day...

Ah. So that's what happened.

That's alright, Bink. If the servers do hiccup again, I think the majority of BZPers would understand.

'BZP withdrawal'... XD

Uhm not a good thing to do at the same time. trust me. never had anything good of doing two things at once. So just take it one step at a time.

Things are picking up. I had thought the site would bounce off and on all day, but it's actually been more stable than it has been. So maybe the pain was worth it. But again, time will tell.

I wondered about that. Good thing it was only during the night - when I got up the next morning BZP was bustling as usual.

Always appreciate your hard work. ;)

I keep on getting the IPS Driver Error (white page with text box of the error)... let's hope it gets better.

I just now adjusted the DB conf file with some of the previous settings, like concurrent threads allowed, max buffer size, stuff like that which I know will improve performance. One good thing: Apache's been up for 14 hours, which is like a record for this year.

Overall, going to mySQL 5 seems to have been a good move, even with the downtime.

Let's hope that the server stays the way it is going right now.

That explains yesterday`s server. Though I could still acsess the site, just not the forums or control panel. So I just read the news and read the staff page.

Don't jinx it. :P

Control Panel is part of the forums... just notice the Board Messages that come up, even when in the CP.

I didn't miss a thing then. ^_^
