Another Rant-type Thing

Okay, for MOC reviewers: Just because something isn't "custom" (whatever that really means) doesn't mean it's bad. Too many members associate something that's not "costum" to being something that's bad. Really, non-custom MOCs aren't always bad, I've seen many that are actually quite good. And vice versa, sometimes (a lot of times, actually) MOCs that are "custom" are not good at all.

So, when reviewing a MOC look at the MOC as a whole. Sure it may not be made quite as good as you would've liked it to be, but even if it's not "custom" sometimes it can be a good MOC. Just look at the whole MOC, and not just one aspect.

So don't make the fact that it may not be "custom" an excuse for you not liking the MOC. Thanks. :)

I quite agree!

I think what many people mean by "not custom" is that they see a lack of creativity in the use of stock pieces... but really, something can be made largely from stock pieces and still look swell. Stock pieces – Rahkshi legs, for example – can be used seamlessly alongside custom builds. I personally do that on most of my MOCs, usually because a stock piece would have a much smoother build than something custom where I use them... They can also be very practical in MOCing. Using Vahki hips as a hip base is far more solid than something using individual ball pieces, for instance.

And one can always combine stock pieces in new ways, of course.

Exactly! You don't have to make a MOC custom to be creative. I use to do that, and I still do it quite a lot. I actually think it may be more creative to use stock pieces in creative ways than to make something custom.

>< Blarg, you beat me to making this(with examples). Anywho, I agree.

Same here. I meant to do something like this too...

I use non custom limbs all the time. Many times it looks better.

Of course, you could look at it from the other end of the hall... ya?

Alot of times custom parts look good. Better than pre molded shapes. I like a pleasant mixture of both...

I usualy go with a custom torso and legs, then a non-custom arms... and it depends on what sort of thing you [badgrammer] are making for the head. [/badgrammer]

It`s true. Even though if it`s not so custom, it can still be good. But hear this, I have seen MOCs that are not custom at all but are still very bad.

I agree. A custom body doesn't mean its good. Many of my mocs have had non-custom bodies and they were good.
