The Moon Is Pie

Well, not quite. It's just that the Chinese have turned it into cake.

If you all know what a mooncake is, then good. If not, go to Wikipedia. At least the information there is quite valid.

This past tool of war - haha - is now a token part of the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Lantern Festival, and the Mooncake Festival. (I don't know if there're any more names for this.)

But, what Wiki didn't say was that another way to participate in the festivities is to make mooncakes and let others gorge on it.

My home has a knack of transforming the dining table into a snowskin lotus mooncake factory during this time of the year. My grandmother would suddenly try her best to be technology-savvy and operate the large mixer to make the dough. We, the kids of the house, would turn into the factory's conveyor belt and create the mooncakes which were refrigerated and then eaten.

Yes, these mooncakes were not baked mooncakes. These were 'snowskin' - a softer, easier-to-eat and much more mouldable crust for the lotus filling. And it tasted goooood.

So, when you make batches of them and they start to choke the fridge, you start giving them away.

When school started, I brought me a large batch of these mooncakes to feed the class with during class breaks.

It worked out - almost everyone said that it was a good batch of mooncakes. The odd one out from 'everyone else' was the lecturer who liked it so much he decided to finish the rest when the others were full.

And there are still packets and boxes more of them in the fridge. And I don't think they'll last through mail.
