My 2nd Choice

I got an acceptance letter to Christopher Newport University, my second choice college.

I might as well list my other choices while I'm at it:

1) Towson University. This is located in Maryland, right past Baltimore, Maryland, 2 hours from home. I really like it. The main thing I look for is their Journalism program, as that will be my major, and I really like what they have in their Mass Communications/Journalism section, and the overall Mass Comm. in general. Now, they do have 15,000 students, but after visiting the campus I realized it wasn't that bad. Other pros include an Anime Club, a rock climbing wall, an excellent newspaper, food food food, and huge dorms. (Well, they're the biggest I've seen of the four colleges I visited). I also like the city location, as there is a mall a 10 minute walk away and a free bus down to Baltimore.

Con: Out of state tuition. This is the deal breaker on where I go to college.

2) Christopher Newport University. Located 3 hours from home in Newport News, Vinginia. They have an English program with Journalism focus, as well as a Mass Comm major/minor (I might go for the minor). My Journalism teacher last year told me to look for english programs, so I'm like the fact that they have the English/Journalism major. They have 5,000 students, which I like. (I guess I liked the 15,000 of Towson because I wouldn't stand out. I find my group and don't worry about other people, y'know?) The rest of the campus is nice too. They too have an Anime club (who doesn't? I shouldn't worry about this.) as well as a newspaper (but the Towson one seemed really welcoming and it looks like I could be on the Towson one immediately upon arriving at school). They have a nice dining hall and other food spots. The dorm's aren't bad, but I've seen bigger. I didn't quite go into the Newport News town, but I don't think it's as big as a city with loads to do.

It's also in state, so that means in-state tuition. (Plus they allow freshmen to have cars, not that I have one... :( )

*One older student last year said that when visiting colleges you should see if you can picture yourself there. I could definitely do that with Towson, and I'm getting used to that fact with CNU, since it seems that's where I'll be going.

3) University of Mary Washington. Located in Fredricksburg, Virginia, 45 minutes from home. (I'd still be able to be active in WAMALUG.) Since I already got accepted to CNU I'm not worrying too much about them, but their dorms were the 2nd largest I saw. What intrigued me was that they had a "design your own major" for select majors, Journalism being one of them. I can choose what I get taught so I don't get, say, sports writing manditory (ug)? Great!

Their dining hall was not as good as others, and I didn't like their paper when I read it, so I'm happy I don't have to worry about it. Oh, they have 4,000 students, so that's fine.

4) George Mason University. Located 30 minutes from home. It's practically home, but I think I'll move into a dorm anyway. Apparently they have a great Journalism program, and their newspaper said they'd love to have writers.

Oh, 25,000 students. But it's a small campus, and I didn't really mind the size when I visited. Smallest dorms. Lots of food. Sorry I'm not elaborating, but this was the first college I visited, I don't plan on going there, so I'm not worrying about it. (But I did apply to every college I listed here)

So there's my college ideas. I'm hoping I can get to Towson if I get enough scholarships. Either way, TU or CNU, I have to figure out a way to get back for BrickFair a week or so later. (Ah! I shouldn't have mentioned minor worries like that! Now someone is going to comment on just that and not college! Ah! Don't!)

Wow, four choices... I only applied to two. Hope you make it to your first choice school... it took months for my first choice to accept me, while the second choice pretty much approved my application as soon as they got it. Heh.

Heh-heh, Mary Washington's among your choices. ^^, Personally, the only local college I have in mind is VCU, if I plan to pursue a career in art, but other than that I haven't done as much investigating as I ought to have done by now.
