The true reason behind Groundhog day: Groundhog day is an ancient holiday, first introduced to our society when archaeologist John A. Smit dug up a tablet, estimated to be over Seven thousand years old, in what is today Southern Arkansas. On it was inscribed the following: "We the people of Groundhogtopiaz have left this tablet behind for future generations, so that they may know how we did things. First: Religion. Our religion is a simple one. Every year, on the 2nd of Und, we dig up Porky, our sacred Groundhog, and show him the light. If he squeaks that he has seen his shadow, we know that the gods are angry with us, and there will be Six more weeks of the season of ice. If he does not see it, the season will end soon. If we should ever forget to dig Porky up, we shall have eternal ice, and our bodies will freeze. Second: Cooking.

2.) Kill hog.

3.) Use stones to grind hog.

4.) Stick in Kiln for one hour.

5.) Take out, if stick is black, the Kiln is hot enough.

6.) Stick in Ground Hog for one hour.

7.) Pull out and eat.

Ground hog on leaf

1.) Pick a large leaf.

2.) Follow Ground hog instructions.

3.) Stick Ground hog on Leaf."

After that, we can never find out, because Smit tripped, and half of it fell into the ocean, where it was swallowed by a whale.

I hear ground beef can be substituted in modern recipes. It should be noted that in some cultures they celebrate Groundbeef Day instead... every day in fact; supposedly, these cultures have many small palaces found easily on your map by locating the building bearing a giant golden letter. That giant letter is an m (capitalized, mind you) so as to note the sound that the beef makes before it is ground: "Moo!"

Every time Ronald McDonald sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of burgers. :P
