This Is Very Bad

6. Do you have any idea why the Mistika are $12.99USD?

6) I will be going into more detail on this in my blog but in a nutshell there are a few reasons -- first, the spike in oil prices means a spike in the cost of plastic, energy to make sets, and energy to transport sets; second, BIONICLE sets generally have more new pieces than other LEGO sets, which means more new molds, which means the need to buy steel to make the molds, and the price of steel has shot up; and the decision was made in Denmark that of all our lines, BIONICLE was best positioned to be able to survive a price increase because of its strength and longevity.

Yes, this is why I have been warning for a while that the biggest risk to Bionicle's future isn't going to come from what is usually discussed in complaint/debate topics (set design, marketing, continuing innovation, etc.) -- but from plastic becoming a huge problem for the toy market.

If this gets out of hand, LEGO may have to make the second major shift in its core concept -- the first being the move to plastic. They might have to move away from it if price gets too high to make a decent profit.

Thankfully, for now we're probably a long way off from that.

There is one good part, however- I believe this will put a massive dent in sales and I'm sure LEGO will have to reduce prices soon in order to remain profitable. The easiest way to do this would be to produce smaller pieces and we may eventually return to canisters more around the size of 2004-2005 sets...

Or they might decrease the different number of sets they produce with each cycle, which could be just as bad or good, depending on how you look at it.

I wouldn't mind them cutting a few titans out per year... It must get hard for Greg to fit them all in.

My god, if they ARE indeed marked up $3, big deal.. Wait for sales or just live with it.

It could be worse.

Key, please don't act annoyed at our opinions. We have a right to have them, and we have a right to express them. And you remember what just happened in the last entry, do you not? Please, allow us to have opinions. No one forces you to visit this blog; if you get annoyed at us, then you may leave.

(If you weren't serious with that comment, then please disregard the top half of this post. ;))

Yes, three dollars are quite difference to me. For every three you buy, it's almost like buying four at the old price. That's not good.

Ten is also such a nice, rounded number. Thirteen is not.

Notice the Phantoka were marked at that price at Toyfair too.

There IS no signoff!

Phew, at least I'm all set. :P

I wonder if you can make plastic with vegetable oil. -_-

...You know what, that is so true. I should have gone ahead and gotten all of them.

I'll probably be buying the Mistika at my local Lego store in 2009 on clearance... I just picked up the 4 Barraki I was missing today for $5 each. They've still got a good supply of Mahri, so it might be a week or two before those are cleared out.

Opinions aren't always worth respecting.

You guys act as if $3 is alot. Especially in LEGO's situation.

IT'S NOT.

You won't go broke by a $3 price increase of the canister sets. Just be glad the rest of the sets (titans and such) aren't being increased in price.

Just get them on sale, get them at WalMart, or just deal with the $3 increase.

I might be the only BZPer not freaking out over this. >_<

And you do have to respect our opinions. All you would get from not respecting opinions is being called rude. You have right to have your own and disagree with ours, but please, at least respect ours.

Three dollars stack up. If you buy all the Mistika, which I plan to do, that adds up to $18. And $18 is a big deal, that's about how much I'm allowed to spend at Christmas.

I really don't care about what you think of me.

If you're so sick of BZP, leave.

I find it funny how everyone's flaming me because of my posts in this blog, and that I'm the only one not whining about the $3 price increase.

KW, stop with this argumentative attitude NOW. I saw no one whining about the price increase here (maybe elsewhere but not here specifically), just people saying they didn't like it and giving a reason why. The only person I see being so negative is you.

Also, everyone deserves respect, even if you don't agree with the person.

Now some of us do have jobs, but we also have things we feel are more important to purchase than paying the additional $3 for each set, especially with money we had to earn (so much harder to let go of hard earned money). After enough purchases, that starts to build up. :psychotwitch:

Our mommies don't buy the sets for us. We use our own money to buy sets. Wait till you get a few years older -- when you have to pay for gas and school expenses, money really adds up.

Seriously, dude, you don't have to agree with everything WX posts, but shouldn't go way out of your way to disagree either. Try being honest and nice, and I'm sure people will be nicer.
