Hm...old friend...new enemy...something tells me that those two are tied together somehow.

If you're thinking an old allie/friend comes and then betrays them, no. Actually the "old friend" won't appear until the end of chapter 1 and then in 2 they'll be told of the new enemy after encountering one in 1. And yes, one enemy is encountered, so there's multiple ones.
