Injuriae
We start with last Saturday. It was the nineteenth of April, two days after a Thursday track meet. Since the weather was finally nice, my girlfriend and I were able to go to the soon-to-be-torn-down tennis court (stupid skate park) and play a little. Apparently, I thought I needed to impress her, but that's not what I was thinking consciously. Clearly my couch knows more about me than I do. So anyway, I half succeeded in jumping over the net right at the beginning. The half that didn't succeed however, made the left side of my body get a little beaten up. Three marks: nose, chin, knuckles.
As people have asked what I did I've explained with "I half succeeded in jumping over something" and they respond with "Oh, at track?" and I have to say no. So yesterday I changed all that. Since I had had no training with them, I decided not to do hurdles as I wanted to. If they were the last thing, I would say "What the heck" and do them. But where they're first I don't want to kill myself before the other races. A friend was really counting on a few new scratches, too.
And I got them. Three more, all slightly worse than the others. But, it was during the 1600 run, and thankfully right at the beginning. Distance is nice because if someone falls or gets cut off, it has no huge impact in the rest of the race. So I fell in the first 10 metres. They really could have restarted for that, because it was in the first 100 metres, but whatever.
This is how it happened. Apparently the guy right behind me was a little closer than I remembered, and the look over my shoulder didn't realize that. So, as much as I'd like to blame him, it really is my fault that he ended up stepping on my heels, and thus causing my to fall and roll off the track. I got my hands scraped, but no skin was taken off. They were just blackened on the rubber, and they hurt the worst. My head got a knock, but that stopped by the end of the race. The more permanent marks are to my shoulder and hip. I also got a mark on my knee, without ripping my tights!
The marks in those particular places make it impossible to move anything but my neck without either pulling them or rubbing them with clothing.
