Last Week

Entry 4

Okay, last week... Last week was easily the longest week of my life- figuratively of course. I'll start with Friday. As you may or may not know, on Friday Apple inc.'s new iPhone 3G was released along with the new iPhone firmware 2.0, I was just about to leave to my friend's house (more on that later) but Apple's servers were down. Worse than BZP's apparently. So I spent the trip without playing Super Monkey Ball, on it.

So onward to my friend's house, it starts off just him, another friend and I playing around on his computer, then we started packing a truck that his parents borrowed from a friend. We then ate dinner, I cannot remember what, then went to bed... At about 1:30 am, so as to sleep on the long car drive the next morning.

The next morning, we got up about four hours later, which is not healthy, so I do not recommend it for extended periods of time. We all trudged into the truck, five of us, three kids and two adults, which was the truck's maximum capacity. On we went, stopping at many a gas station on the way, on state line city in between Nevada and somewhere (You loose track on a ten hour drive.) and wonderful sleazy Las Vegas, but eventually we arrived in Page, Arizona. Our last stop on our drive to Lake Powell.

The next day we loaded the houseboat and got off the dock, not much of an adventure, but interesting nonetheless. I'm trying to stay brief, so excuse my lack of detail. We found a nice spot on a small sandbar, and "anchored up". During the trip it was exhaustingly hot, over one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, everyday before noon. But lucky for us, being on a boat, when we wanted to cool off, all it required was a quick jump into the lake, which was a refreshing pool temperature, thankfully. A lot of things occurred periodically during this vacation, such as dumping buckets of water on one another from the top deck of the boat, and fixing the generator, which was a constant problem.

After we had everything settled in on that first day, one of my friends and I went jet-skiing. That was truly thrilling, those things a have a lot of power. Next came a quick dinner, I cannot remember what we had so it must not have been important. After dinner, which I do remember was delicious, came fireworks. Ah, fireworks... They are dangerous, yet wonderful, mesmerizingly beautiful, and magical. But, also, illegal. We bought them from an Indian reservation on the way up, the Natives are smart, fireworks, and casinos... Brilliant. Anyway, we lit a few generic mortars off, then a box set, which proved to be unstable, sending mortars into the canyon walls. That is a sight to see.

Next day, (without cell service and such, I lost complete track of time and dates) we basically swam the whole day, ate food, jet-skied, and lit fireworks, as were the next few days. Lazy, lethargic, but overall, a great way to spend a vacation. About midweek, we decided it might be fun to try inner tubing. It was. My friend's father is not the best boat driver, which made staying on the tube extra difficult, and therefore extra fun. Then back to the houseboat, dinner, swimming, fireworks.

Two days later, we went to the Rainbow Bridge national monument, very neat. But even neater was the dinosaur footprint we spotted just around the corner, no one acknowledged it, but it was way cooler than a funky shaped rock. Next we took some gas cans to a gas station on a dock, and drove the boat back to the houseboat. Again, lethargic night, dinner and a show, fireworks.

Eventually, my peaceful vacation had to come to an end, we left the beautiful lake, and drove home, and here I am. I have learned that no matter what happens to anyone anywhere in the world, life goes on like nothing happened. Always. If something is truly tragic, it only stops and takes a breath.

Ten hours in a car? Madness. Planes: faster. RV: Cozier. Five seater car: Cramped and smells like gas and fries.

Glad your back, just in time for the 7-year anniversary of BZP.
