Getting A New Laptop

"But, CF, you just got one!"

"True, but that one had a faulty hard drive and sounded like a sick R2-unit."

So I called Dell today and am getting a refund. Then, just now, I ordered an HP dv6700t for about $70 less than my Dell, and it should be just fine.

My friend (a Best Buy employee) basically said that over the past few years Dell laptops have been getting more full of FAIL. (But their desktops are just fine.) If you want a detailed explanation, PM me.

HP's, on the other hand, have always been good. So I went for one of those. (And I'm getting a free printer!)

(This means, Arpy, that I no longer recommend a Dell Inspiron 1525, but looking into getting an HP, a company my friend says has always been dependable.)

Dells rock.

Hard drive isn't their fault, they don't make them.

They just assemble the products from other companies, like Western Digital and AMD.

So don't blame Dell.

OK, looks like people won't have to PM me....

The reason it is Dell's fault is that they source to other companies to make their hard drives and other components. Back around 2000 and 2001 they were good and making their own things. Then they started buying cheaper and cheaper parts from other companies (so it is their fault because they don't make them). In fact, they still ended up going (close to?) bankrupt at one point. (My friend can tell you the whole history of Dell like I'm trying to do right now. Pretty much convinced me that HP laptops are better.)

I'm on an HP right now, but only because it was an incredibly good deal and it had a generous amount of RAM.

My whole family uses Dells, though; I have the only non-Dell, and even then, the computer I used before this one is a Dell.

In other words, we have four Dell laptops in our house (Actually, all of them are in the same room as me right now, ha), and the only problems are things that we did, such as dropping them on the power cable port, or things like that that aren't Dell's fault.

So I can't relate to this at all.

Also, on another note, where my Dad works as an IT Director (And where I worked for the Summer), we use Dells and Clones, and only the Clones have had issues.

So yeah. Dell has a good history with me.

Macintosh makes everything in their products. So what you are saying is that Dell computers really aren't their products? :P

[yodavoice] Hmmm... consider a Mac you should. Yyeess. He hi heem! Expensive they are, but quality they lack not. Hmm?? [/yodavoice]

P.S. Check out their ads on their website. Now they rock.

Macs are, as I've said many times, for people who don't want to know how their computer works or really want to learn how to use it in-depth.

They have most settings pre-set, and there isn't much of a need to change anything. It's mostly done for you.

PCs are for big businesses, where you need to know how to use most of it's features, where it takes practice and training, but most of the time, you're very, very glad to know.

It comes down to preference, so please stop saying one kind is better than the other in every case.

If I could stop saying PCs are better, you guys can stop too, regardless of your stand on the issue.

Oh, and yeah, Dell doesn't make what they sell. Neither does AT&T. And some other companies that escape my memory at the moment.

No big deal. Most of the time it's fine.

Oh, and yes, I acknowledge that this entry is old and your problems, CF, are probably resolved already. :P
