In drama, I've seen that problem. People don't speak loud enough so that those in the back just hear a mumble. I remember my problem wasn't amplitude but speed... I would get going too fast during the monologues that things would string together and the audience would get lost.

Yay for public speaking. You either got it or ya don't.
