Homonyms

Why is English so cruel with these?

I mean, I can see why "their" and "they're" had to be homonyms, because they are both based off of the word "they." But what cool dude decided to make "there" also homonymous with them?

Who thought "here" and "hear" should be similar.

It drives me crazy. I mean, homonyms happen in several languages, but hopefully the words there aren't such common words. I hate English.

lol @ CF's friend

Apparently the words mentioned all come from Gothic words. So I guess they were as stupid as we are. :P

American schools, quite bluntly, do not teach English. I know because I went to one, and everything they've taught me is in contradiction with the more sophisticated and accurate education I now receive.

"They're" is two syllables. "There" is pronounced like "They're" IF it were single syllable, lacked the consonant Y, and the "E" were pronounced like the "A" in "Cake". "Their" would be pronounced similarly to "There", but with the "ei" being pronounced like the "A in Garry".

Oh, and "Hear" is pronounced about the same as "here" but with the "A in Cat" mixed with the E after it, in a sort of diphthong (In layman's terms, the "E" sort of transitions into the "A", while not adding another syllable). Did that make sense?

Also, don't believe everything you learn in school is absolutely true. A lot of what they taught me in text books are silly things you would think are derived from urban legends.(They essentially taught me the "five second rule" was "scientifically proven", for example.)
