I didn't realize until I was a billion years old that learning is supposed to be used by you to make your ideas and dreams come true, not something that should keep you dead, and have you constantly say "Oh, so that isn't possible."

I associate this with the fact that my mother was hoping to break me of my computer habits by me staying in computerless New Orleans, while instead it backfired and made me eager to test out tons of my ideas on the computer as soon as I came home.
