Where Art Thou Going, O Moon

Me memory of previous sources and all the sources I could Google today after school say that the moon is receding from the Earth (moving away from), thusly making it's rotational period around the earth longer. And that's what makes sense. However, my science teacher and my nerd friend insist otherwise.

Who here knows?

It's moving away very slowly... like a 3.8 cm a year

So in 1000 years, it'll only have moved 3.8 meters. In 10000 years, it'll have moved 38 meters... and then 1 million years... 3.8 km.
