Waking Life (2001) By Richard Linklater

Waking Life is my favourite movie ever.

That's quite the absolute statement to be making, I know -- and I admit I am prone to exaggeration -- but I tell you: It really is my favourite movie of all time. Which is to say, it's my favourite movie right now. Because, as the film points out, there is only one moment: The Now. Everything else -- the whole concept of time, with its perceived past, present, and future -- is just a projection of our minds, immersed in this dream world. We're all really just dreaming: dreamtime and waking reality are simply two sides of the same coin.

I am a person who really enjoys discovering meaning in things. Not necessarily always meaning that can be put into words, either. Like beauty, for example -- you have to experience it for yourself, appreciate things as and for what they are. I'd say that applies to Waking Life as well. It is the most profound, yet accessible, philosophical piece of art I've ever seen, and it seems like all the words I might ever lavish upon it are but in vain beside it.

You must see this film. Do whatever you have to do to get your hands on a copy. You'll never look at life the same way again, I swear. :psychotwitch:
