Boo.

NASA's picture of the day

Here we come to All Hallow's Eve. It means many things.

  • The day before November.
  • Shard of the Dead (in Ultima Online)
  • Fall weather
  • Start of the restricted waiver claims for Week 9 FFL
  • Spooky get-ups and/or set-ups.
  • 7 days until nationwide elections (Robert Jindal looks to win La. District 1 going away.)
  • the birthday of the New Orleans Saints (who lost in a none-too-pretty fashion Sunday)
But, probably most important of all:
  • CANDY
I'm not connected enough to go to a party, so I'll probably end up grabbing a bag of chocolate something in case my door is knocked. Will otherwise be a quiet evening, reading a book that I picked up last night. It's a....disturbing read, so it should be a Halloween story anyway.

Candy...Ahh tis' greatest thing in the world!

I have many plans for holloween myself. ^^ I think I'll watch War of the Worlds tonight and maybe find a scary book to read myself.

Ok... this is weird. You look like my Brit. Lit. teacher. Which scares the heck out of me... cause I don't need another one of him running around...

Well, I'm off to eat candy cuase I'm 17 and want some candy.

Ooh, what was the book?

I'm really, really reluctant to give the title, even though it's in your stock, 22.

I'll say that it's a bunch of case studies on emotionally manipulative behavior, and how the reader can practice and exploit it him or herself.

It was recommended by another friend online. (Well, I'd like to call her a friend. No one anyone on BZP knows, I'm sure.) I'm really reading to recognize the behavior in others: my nice streak is too deep to be this under-handed.

But it is unsettling.

The Ghoul Nebula.

Emotionally manipulative behaviour, if anything, scares the heck out of me. Not in a nice, Halloweeny way, either. I think that book would have a good chance of infecting me with a case of social paranoia.

Edit: Oh, and your photo reminds me of one of my dormmates. You look smart.

By "emotionally manipulative behavior", I mean someone is playing with your emotions to get you to do something you weren't doing before. Different from persuasion, this is crossing the line from "convincing you to decide for A as opposed to B" to "you never would have thought of doing A before all this began...in fact you might have been deadset against it."

And making you think it was your idea in the first place.

I will address this later, once I'm done with the book. Either re-commenting here, or a new blog entry all together, depending on how long it takes me to finish and digest.

Just ask Omi: I'm in a "learn the power of the mind" mode. Watch me come out of this being able to bend silverware with my thoughts like that "There is no spoon" kid in the Matrix. :P

This has little to do with the conversation at hand, but your blog's name made me laugh out loud because, while I live closer to Hershey, PA than to New Orleans, LA, I remember when Ray Negin said that. :P
