How To Get Off Work

I was scheduled to work tonight at the theater from 5 to close (~11:30). (This is the worst shift, IMO.) My co-worker couldn't come in for her 8 AM shift until 12 (watching her brother at home) so I offered to fill in for her until she came at 12. (So I arrive at 8 to open.) Great! [Aside from waking up way too early] I thought I'd be able to get a few more hours of pay in and get overtime! 44 hours this week! Woot! That's the most so far.

So today, right as I was about to leave at noon, when she came in, my managers realized that I was going to be getting overtime. So...they told me that I didn't have to work tonight. I complained a little about pay and "yay overtime" and whatnot, but corporate doesn't want to cooperate (probably a rule because of the recession or whatnot) and I was simply told I didn't have to show up tonight.

On the upside, I've been enjoying my day so far, I'm about to go outside and take some MOC pictures, and I'm seeing Public Enemies with my [best] friend tonight, so you know, I don't absolutely lose. But losing 6 hours of pay means I won't be buying nachos tonight (at employee discount), that's for sure (disregarding everything I say about why buying anything behind concession is bad). (Also disregarding my streak of not buying anything from there out of spite.)

As far as I'm aware, my job has no opportunity for overtime, and during the school year we're limited to 19 hours per week. And I still find it trying to put in 10 hours per week between classes.
