The songs in particular I seemed to copy were Dead On Arrival and Where Is Your Boy Tonight? / Grand Theft Autumn.

Bassist is easy enough. Find a friend starting on guitar and tell him to switch over to bass. You've been playing for a few years so he'll automatically listen.

Then just get a drummer, which can be as easy as a Craigslist flier or a flier in the local music shop or newspaper.

You see, I'd do this but it never seems to work out.

Thinking about selling some of my stuff to buy a guitar.

Hmm...well, you could always take the digital route, and, after selling things for a guitar, take your computer to gigs and play backing drums and bass on it instead of forming a band.

Or make noise-rock like Merzbow.
